This is a venue more than a business. Hudson Grotto is a dive site in Pasco County owned by Scuba…read moreWest. Please note: THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF SCUBA WEST - ONLY THE DIVE SITE ITSELF. Hudson Grotto is a prehistoric limestone sink. It is brackish waters so, part fresh, part salt. There are several resident turtles and, though not seen during my visit, I understand that a barracuda also calls this site his home. If you are thinking this is a site where you can go and explore with crystal clear waters, you would be mistaken. Because of the make-up of the water and surrounding trees, the water is brown and visibility is only about 10 ft. That being said, it is an excellent location for training dives such as Stress and Rescue, Deep and Night/Limited visibility. Below 20 ft, you really need to have a flashlight. It gets very dark very quickly. The site has several things to explore, including a bus, statues and the limestone formations. This location is also very deep (beyond recreational limits) so be sure to only dive within your training and limitations. I will say that the site is very well maintained. There is a sheter with several picnic tables to put together your gear. There are no showers/bathroom but a port-a-potty is onsite. There is a dive shop across the street for you to check in and purchase that flashlight :) There is also a fire pit, if one wants to build a fire and cook some hotdogs. There are a few parking places inside the gate (4 or 5)- otherwise plan to park at the Scuba shop across the street or on the street itself. Overall, I gave the site a 3 star simply because of the visibility and the smell of my gear after getting out of the water which is no fault of anyone. It is truly a great place to do some advanced scuba classes.

My wife and I went to visit my Mom in Hudson the week of Memorial Day, and had a charter scheduled…read morewith Captain Chris on Thursday, May 29th. The trip was nothing short of exceptional. We met Chris at the dock around 8 as planned, when we got there he had the boat in the water, had already caught a live-well full of bait, and was ready to go. His boat is amazing, like nothing I've ever seen in the Northeast where I live. A shallow, skiff like vessel, very open for plenty of room to maneuver, with an awesome center console tower. It was a beautiful day, and the 1st stop was an inshore island he knew of where we caught plenty of sea trout, a monster 35 inch snook, and a small jack crevalle. After maybe an hour, the bite had slowed, and Chris suggested we could move to an inland river/canal and try for some redfish. First we pulled up to a sand beach at the end of the island, anchored and took a swim. It was awesome. When done, we took a beautiful ride to the next spot (all of our travel time on the boat was incredibly scenic and enjoyable), got into a spot he knew, and caught some redfish. Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the dock and wrap up our half day trip. When we got there, Chris filleted what we had kept of our catch (2 sea trout and 2 redfish), and bagged it for us to bring home. That night we had an epic dinner of fresh Gulf fish on the grill. I'm heading back to FL later this week, and once again I'm heading out with Capt. Chris/Epic Tails. He will be my go to fishing guide for the rest of the time my Mom is in FL. I've been on a bunch of charters over the years (both in the Northeast and FL), and Captain Chris is without question the best I've experienced. See you in a week or so, I can't wait!
