Ana also checked in on me multiple times to make sure it was all going okay (fortunately, things got much better).

My wife and I had to start our newborn daughter off with formula at…read morethe hospital, and when we got home we tried to do an immediate transition to breastfeeding. And thus began the most hellish 24 hour period of our lives. My wife would spend hours trying to breastfeed, and we just plain didn't know what we were doing. Our daughter would struggle with latching and become frustrated and combative. When she did latch, we didn't know if she was getting any milk. Each feeding went like this, with our daughter becoming progressively poorly fed and more distressed. Feedings became lessons in frustration with ourselves and our daughter became so irritable and upset that she would fight us during changings, feedings, and nap times. She was screaming, kicking her legs, red in the face, pretty much non-stop. It was horrible for our mental and emotional health, and the next day we were drained and at the breaking point. We knew we needed help. We were fortunate enough to find Carrie online, and when we contacted her she responded immediately and saw us within the next couple hours. She arrived at our home for a consultation and spent the first hour just asking questions, observing how we fed our daughter, and learning about our and our daughter's needs. After that, she spent the next hour giving us pointers and showing us correct feeding technique, answering all of our questions about nutrition, feeding patterns, bottle feeding vs breastfeeding, and helping us craft an overall feeding strategy. This allowed us to gently transition from formula to breastmilk over the course of a few days, teaching our daughter the right habits for latching and feeding, and teaching us the right mentality and approach so we had the right expectations for ourselves and for her. Within a couple days, our daughter was on a healthy schedule of feeding at the breast, topped off with a few milliliters of formula to ensure she was full and getting enough nutrition. A few days after that, and my wife was able to fully feed our daughter using breastmilk alone AND she was able to produce enough milk with the pump to build up a surplus. This was such a night-and-day change that we almost couldn't believe it! Carrie, thank you so much for your coaching and your support. You've been there for us at all hours. Your advice is a perfect blend of goal-setting and pragmatism. Your calming presence in this process has meant so much to us. You're the best!!

She came over twice to help me, and she was so supportive and kind. Exactly what a new Mom needs. She also explained the technique in a way that finally made sense (other LC's were confusing.) Her follow up support via texting was also incredibly helpful. We were able to drop the supplementation pretty quickly, and five months later, we are still exclusively breastfeeding. It's such a vulnerable time, and breastfeeding can be such an emotionally loaded challenge for so many women. I'm grateful I had Carrie to help us on this journey and to meet our breastfeeding goals.

One appointment at Mahmee fixed everything. We saw Jennifer, who is very focused on the success of both baby AND mom. I was told "we don't breastfeed at any cost" and didn't feel shame about any decisions we made which was a huge help. I also love being able to use the app to ask follow up questions. We went in person to their offices but I believe they also do house visits which would be very convenient if you don't live close.

The experience with a lactation consultant in person was amazing, she was hands-on and knowledgeable. They have scales, wipes, changing tables...everything you'd need for a successful breastfeeding session. The other plus is their online services. So once you leave your session, you have access to a consultant for a month, where you can ask as many questions as you need and have consistent support. Another great feature, is they have information on all things post partum and ways to build knowledge around lactation and feeding.

Sharon is such a wonderful person. My husband and I found her through Yelp and had a great time in her Lamaze class and early infant class. Sharon was so welcoming and made the experience as first time parents so special for us and eased a lot of our anxiety. I don't think I would have been as mentally prepared as I was if I did not take her classes. I would even say emotionally too because I had to do a lot of healing with losing my first angel. Thank you so much Sharon. Our little Rami is doing wonderful. You were such a great impact on our journey as first time parents and have our upmost respect. Please keep doing what you're doing because first time parents really need you!

We are first time parents and had so many questions about the birthing process. At one point, I had even considered hiring a doula! But guess what... after attending Sharon's Lamaze class, my husband became more comfortable and stepped up to be my birthing partner! So no need for a doula after all. Sharon also made the class fun by having us doing hands-on learning activities. And most importantly, she serves amazing snacks. So for all pregnant women out there, who get hungry easily like me, you are well taken care of when attending her class. :-)
