We got ms omega, which is eggs benny with avocado and salmon. The sauce had a citrus element to it, which made the eggs benny different and tasty. The salmon was good, but smelt a little fishy. We also got the return of the botak chan, which is pork belly congee. The congee was well made, and wasn't salty like Hong Kong style congee. It tasted clean and two chunks of pork belly were given. I thought the food tasted good, and It's in a good area if you want to walk and shop afterwards. But, it is a little pricey for the type of food we got. For the price, I'd recommend the congee over the toast. But, it is personal preference. read more

Melbourne takes breakfast to a new level and Breakfast Thieves proves that. They're very thoughtful and creative in their approach to food and it yields some of the best dishes I've ever had. My go to here is The Legend but you can't really go wrong with anything on their menu. Their flat white is pretty great and they have free wifi, so that draws a good amount of laptop club during work hours. It's a very relaxing environment with communal tables and very friendly service. It gets very busy throughout the day, I recommend going before noon if you don't like waiting. read more

This is a nice little cafe. Here you'll get a slight different twist to the ordinary breakfast. The majority of their menu has a twist of spice - slightly Moroccan or Middle Eastern in nature. So obviously if you do not like that kind of food you might not like it here. They also do a few pastries and desserts if you are more inclined that way. This place is as hipster as they come, with shared tables and all. So in saying that, this place is extremely popular. I have known people waiting for a good 30 minutes for a table. Honestly, I never wait for anything, so I wouldn't. The coffee here is good - not as good as Industry beans (but not much is). But it is still quite good. A lot more smoother then I preferred, but it wasn't that big of a problem. The staff here are also nice, but extremely busy, so sometimes you are going to have to wave them down, or give them 'that look'. read more

Definitely one of my favourite meals! Walked into Breakfast Thieves with no expectations, it was just close by, but I promise I'll be back again soon. What a lovely surprise. Pretty sophisticated menu, not at all what I had expected from the outside. I had French Toast with candied bacon, brûlée banana, lemon curd & cherry tomatoes. I thought the cherry tomatoes were a lil out of place, however cherry tomatoes with lemon curd & banana, WOW!!! The whole meal, WOW! I feel so happy just remembering this meal. The crispy bacon and fresh French toast... Breakfast Thieves do breakfast right!! But they also pull off a great burger, as full as I was I couldn't resist trying a little bit of my friends and it was equally impressive. The Breakfast Thieves is in this quaint little corner on Gore Street close to the Rose Street Artist Market in Collingwood. As you approach the cafe, it feels like you're transported to a quiet street lined with trees that doesn't feel like Melbourne at all. My friend and I came at about 10.30am on a Saturday and the wait was less than 5 minutes. She had a smoked salmon benedict, and I had corn fritters. They were both really well seasoned and tasty. Queens birthday celebration began with breakfast thieves on a Monday morning around 11am. There was a 20 minutes wait to sit indoors and no way did we want to sit outside. Located off the main street, there is plenty of street parking for patrons at breakfast thieves. Their menu is extensive with options like the spicy baked eggs with chorizo, peas, mushrooms, feta and pumpkin and it comes with garlic bread, French toast, three kinds of eggs benedict (ms omega lol), and the usual breakfast bircher etc. Their hot chocolate is interesting as it uses strong cacao powder with coconut sugar. Definitely for those who are against refined sugar. Not for my friend who thought the hot chocolate was quite bitter and dark. I got the baked eggs and my oh my they were quite delicious and unique. Peas, pumpkin, chorizo and feta what a wonderful combo. And accompanied by garlic bread instead of plain old sourdough. Wowee. Definitely a "legend"ary dish. My friend got the ms omega with generous helpings of trout (so fresh, so deliciously red), poached egg, large thick slices of sourdough and broccolini. So spoilt. Service was great. They noticed my friend had trouble cutting up the toast so offered her another sharper knife. Seriously more cafes need to provide adequate cutting utensils for their artisan toast. Coffee was average. Quite robust. And slightly acidic. They don't split bill and you can't Take away leftovers. Hello shortage of food by 2050. Anyway, this is another of those discoveries that I made while persuing the internet at work (yes, I know, I'm supposed to be working, but sometimes a little break can put your mind back in order). Anyway, I decided that any place that goes by the name 'Breakfast Thieves' is certainly some place that I had to check out. Anyway, it was pretty cool - one of those hip and trendy cafes hidden away in an old factory in Fiztroy. It certainly was popular and their bircher muesli was pretty cool. Yummy food! Although not the biggest selection, it was delightful and fulfilling. The most delicious coffee I've had in a while.

Free wifi brings all the boys to the yard. During breakfast and lunch periods you'll find a mixed crowd, but during the lull hours in between you'll find a dude and his laptop perched at every table. Here for coffee and food with a side of work time. Admittedly, that's why I came to Breakfast Thieves too (to steal the wifi as much as breakfast), but it's definitely worth a venture in regardless of motives. Stripped back Fitzroy-standard fit out with an interesting breakfast and lunch menu, as well as smaller dishes like pastries from La Madre Bakery. I was eyeing off the tea smoked trout with soba noodles, but needing something a little on the smaller side opted to devour their ham, cheese and relish croissant - very tasty. The coffee menu appears to have a few different roasters on. They list STREAT on the menu, but I also saw some offerings from Rumble coffee, with Small Batch on filter. Already on a bit of a coffee binge, I took a breather with a refreshing peppermint tea from their Larsen & Thompson tea list. The food has improved considerably in my last few visits. The coffee is still a bit hit and miss but the food has definitely gotten better. There's a coolness and composure about Breakfast Thieves that really impresses me. It all seems to flow quite nicely between the floor staff, kitchen and barista. The semi-open kitchen provides a certain theatre to the overall experience which is lovely. It feels like you get to peep behind the curtains, making the dining experience all the more engaging. The floor staff are all very lovely, at-ease and in a down to Earth sort of way. I went for Breakfast Thieve's "The Legend", comprised of baked eggs with chorizo and a side of warm, butter, crunchy bread. Although nothing spectacular in that it's just baked eggs with chorizo, it was tasty and I would order it again. The cold drip was refreshing and a nice, clean way to round out the meal. There is a sneaky selection of sweets presented behind some glass cabinetry near the counter. We were overindulged as it was, so unfortunately this was not to be on this particular occasion, but offerings that include Nutella and salted caramel are enough to bring me back. read more

I liked the atmosphere of this little cafe with the big communal dining table and they were very very kid friendly, but the two things I wasnt so impressed with were the hot chocolate (too watery) and the prices (too high). The really good thing was the lovely selection of cakes - we had a little blueberry cakey thing and a white chocolate lamington - but tasted nice but they were so heavy that we all (3 adults and 2 kids) just felt far too full afterwards. Even one of my 3 year olds left some of it! And the hot chocolate was not up to standard - it was too watery and seemed to be more focused on being sweet rather than thick. It wasnt bad, but it couldve been better. I found the price rather disturbing too - it was $38 for 3 hot drinks, 2 babycinos and about 7 or 8 small cakes... I dont want this review to make the place sound bad - because it isnt a bad place, it just has a few small issues which it needs to get sorted out. I vaguely remember stumbling in through the door after a night out with a craft beer sales rep and their head brewer. Needless to say the previous 9 hours had been rough on me as we shuffled over to the nearest table I focused on alternating covering one eye and trying to read the menu. It was the beer rep, my friend and melbourne local who had suggested the place, I'd mentioned I was in the mood for some baked eggs and suddenly we were off, "Baked eggs?! I've heard good things about this place...I don't remember where or who or when...but good things" The place looked nice, and the coffee was great, but that's a given with a lot of these new cafes I was more interested in the menu, and what a menu! unfortunately I was short sighted I only had eyes for one thing. The Legend. Baked eggs with tomato, mushrooms, peas and chorizo and garlic sough-dough toast and sprinkled with feta, it was mine as long as I could add bacon; charred darker than that last imperial stout I'd only just started to remember drinking. I made my order, with such conviction it woke the other two who still hadn't been able to process the words on the menu into anything edible and they promptly ordered the same. I don't remember how long it was until it came, but I assume that it wasn't long or I would have been grumpy, but oh my god. That meal I still dream about, I have a picture of it in my wallet that I would take to war, it was spicy so spicy my eyes watered...or was I crying? no matter, as I looked at my comrades the feeling was the same across the board. Our noses running, the odd murmur and the tear of crispy bacon was all that was decipherable. Now I've had my fair share of baked eggs with chorizo in my time, it's turned into an Australian brunch staple coming off the specials and making the cut on the winter menus...but never have I had such perfection that was The Legend that day. Hell I'm writing this review 6 months after it happened and I still can't stop thinking about it. We all left feeling considerably better than when we'd arrived, and that is what a Sunday morning brunch should do, I don't remember the staff, the price, or even where it was. Who cares? The menu looked really appetising with a wide variety of different options, although maybe I should have been tipped off at some of the more unusual food groupings. Not typical breakfasts you would see and taste at most cafes in Melbourne but the chefs have put them well together. Watching them pumping the foods out with skills is really inspiring. I particular like The French Toast, which is beautifully presented. Their coffee is spot on too, right temperature with good froth. And of course those wait staffs are attentive and friendly. Great coffee and really good take away breads. I like the food but I would love a menu change sometime soon. My favourite way to breakfast here is to order a range of sides (weird but it works) or grab a savoury muffin. All the sides are great think slow cooked and perfectly seasoned tomatoes, lemon av smash, house cured ocean trout, home made hash browns, no need for extra salt mushrooms. There is a fair bit of deep fried on the menu which isn't always my cup of tea when it comes to breaky time. The baked vego eggs are my pick of the menu but if you are there after 11:30 the salads especially the smoked salmon/beetroot/quinoa salad is amazing. And filling. The baked eggs with chorizo is quite rich so maybe not suited to early morning. The fritters are super spicy and can be a bit too much for some people but if you are a chilly fan and hungover these are pretty delicious (deep fried). The traditional malay breakfast dish is not for the faint hearted and the eggs are really really runny/not real cooked. Do not order this after a big night. The combo breakfast is also pretty good (boiled egg + granola) and also like a two course meal without being too heavy. The porridge that can be vegan with either banana or strawberries is pretty good i would recommend going the banana version. Staff are great. Coffee is quick. Love the interior. There are a couple of outdoor tables to sit on that have a pretty high rotation under plain trees that are perfect for people watching. Also there is a nice outdoor stool to sit on when waiting for a coffee/table on a sunny day. Free wifi. Not open mondays. read more

Tucked away on Gore St in Collingwood, I stumbled onto this place by chance. I persuaded a few of my girlfriends to try it out with me and it was definitely a winner! I was pretty happy with my vegetarian spanish baked eggs (usually served with chorizo but you can opt to go vego with any meal). It was spicy and hit the spot. It's rare for me to ever stray away from anything that doesn't involve poached eggs for breakfast so I was happy that this satisfied me. My friends has an array for things from big breakfasts to corn fritters (delish btw). The coffees were yum, very typical of most places in C'wood. Prices were standard and service was good. The wait time was pretty ok, about 5-10mins but the restaurant is pretty tight so our seats were definitely close to other parties. I'll definitely come here again, especially to have those corn fritters. read more
