0 stars if could! I would strongly recommend staying away from this shop. The guy who goes by…read more"Henry," whose actual name is Enrique Torrijos, claims this isn't his business, yet he's the person we've been dealing with throughout this entire situation.
I first brought my 2001 Sea-Doo GTX here in May because I simply wanted it running properly. Since then, I've been back to this shop six times, spent over $2,000, and the ski still isn't running right. Every time we brought it back, there was another excuse or something else that supposedly needed to be replaced.
At one point, Henry even told us that we needed to tell him what was wrong with the ski. How does that make sense when he's supposed to be the mechanic? He also tried using the fact that my jet ski is a 2001 against us, saying we expect it to run like it's brand new. Nobody ever asked for that. We simply wanted the ski to run properly, which is the whole reason we brought it to his shop in the first place.
First, he told us the carburetors needed to be rebuilt, even though the ski was already starting before we brought it in. Then he claimed the stator needed to be replaced. After he replaced the stator, the ski started blowing fuses. Every time I installed a new fuse, it would blow immediately. I eventually tested it with the stator disconnected, and the fuses stopped blowing. That made me question whether something was wrong with the stator installation or whether debris had been left behind. Instead, Henry claimed the problem was the computer, so we ended up getting another computer.
After that, we took the ski back to the lake, and it still wasn't accelerating properly. This time, he claimed it needed a new wear ring. We had that addressed, took it back to the lake, and once again, the same problem. Every time we tried taking off, the ski would jerk and hesitate, making me question whether the carburetors had even been tuned correctly.
I've been to the lake more than five times this summer, including a camping trip, and haven't been able to properly enjoy my ski because the same issues kept happening.
By the fourth time bringing it back, I had already spoken with another mechanic who questioned why the original OEM fuel lines from 2001 were still installed. When we brought this up to Henry, he insisted they didn't need to be replaced. Eventually, after we continued having problems, he replaced the fuel lines for free. What doesn't make sense to me is why he originally insisted they didn't need replacing, only to replace them later after we questioned him about it.
To make matters worse, when we got the ski back, the fuel line going into the carburetors was leaking. At that point, I was completely fed up.
Another thing that makes absolutely no sense is that Henry eventually told us he doesn't work on two-stroke engines. My Sea-Doo is a two-stroke. If you don't work on two-stroke engines or aren't comfortable working on them, why would you take my ski in, perform all these repairs, and charge me over $2,000? Why not tell us that from the beginning instead of wasting our entire summer and money?
After six visits and still having the same problems, we finally decided to ask for a refund. What's interesting is that when we called, before we even mentioned wanting a refund, Henry immediately said he was working on getting us one. He then told us he needed time to put the money together. Two weeks went by without a call or update. We were constantly trying to get ahold of him.
After everything, he offered us only $250. We spent over $400 just on the carburetor work alone, and the ski still isn't running properly. Why would we accept $250 when we've spent over $2,000 and the original issue was never resolved?
I also encourage anyone considering this shop to look up Performance Jet Skis on Yelp, which I understand was his previous business. That business is now closed, and there are multiple reviews from customers describing similar experiences, including complaints about carburetor rebuilds and unresolved mechanical issues. I've also come across information about alleged court cases involving that business and the name Enrique through the Van Nuys courthouse. I encourage people to look into those records themselves.
All we wanted was a properly running jet ski. Instead, we spent over $2,000, made six trips back to the shop, lost practically an entire summer of riding, and still have a ski that doesn't run correctly.
Save yourself the money, time, and frustration. Based on my experience, I would never recommend this shop to anyone. What bothers me most isn't just the money. It's the lack of accountability, the constant excuses, and the fact that we gave him multiple opportunities to make things right, and he still couldn't resolve the original problem
