We stayed at Queen Anne for two nights during a Backroads Bike tour. The owners, Laszlo and Kate,…read moreprovided excellent personalized service and were very accommodating. We were in the Carriage House behind the main building, which was like a small apartment with two bathrooms, a living room and a bedroom. Others in our group spoke highly of the historic main building. Rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet (except for the morning serenade from local songbirds). The breakfasts were delicious and the host-made scones were the best I've ever had. It was located not far from town, and we were able to walk to local establishments during our stay. Not sure when I'll make it back to Annapolis Royal, but when I do I'm staying at Queen Anne.

First order diagnosis was done in five minutes and a plumber was on site within 45 minutes on a Saturday morning. We had hot water in half an hour. Every business has issues. The mark of a great business is how they deal with them while preserving the customer experience. The owners Kate and Lazlow at Queen Anne Inn clearly put the customer first. Kate makes breakfast while Lazlow serves. On busy days they have extra help. The owners make sure the quality is maintained. Breakfast menus the two days we were there started with a scone, a yogurt parfait or berry smoothie (lots of berries in season while we were there), and a choice of two mains. The Belgian waffle and the savory crepe we ate were excellent. Wherever Kate learned to cook it worked. The public rooms in the main building are lovely. In addition to the two interconnected dining rooms there are two separate sitting rooms. The furnishings are at once elegant and comfortable. We stayed in the cottage behind the main building with an upstairs bedroom and a downstairs living room. Again, nicely furnished and very comfortable. Regardless of the season Queen Anne Inn is a welcoming and comfortable place to stay in Annapolis Royal NS.

I dare you to find a better B&B anywhere. This historic property was built in 1859 in the midst of…read morewonderful gardens. It truly is a great place to have a wedding. We didn't, but there was one going on when we got there. Innkeepers Val Peterson & Paul Stackhouse made us feel like family...and eavesdropping on the conversation with the bride and groom, I know they felt special too. Each room is beautifully decorated with antiques and every morning you are greeted to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and muffins and scones baking in the oven to go along with a full breakfast served in the very formal dining room. The room may be formal, but the atmosphere is very relaxed. I really can't wait to go back! One word AWESOME or maybe EXTRAORDINARY. Just remember they are open from April 1-November 30. Even they need a break sometime.

The house is like a comfortable museum - beautifully decorated with antique items, but you don't feel like you're in a "no touch" zone. The hostess was super friendly and extremely accommodating, especially when we told her we would miss breakfast because we had to leave a little early to go whale watching. She and her staff started breakfast early and still fed us a full feast! It's centrally located, an easy walk to the center of Annapolis Royal but still a bit quiet and tucked away. We stayed in Room 2, which has a wonderful bed (comfy and quiet) and a large free-standing tub perfect for soaking in. The only complaint is that we're a bit sensitive to noise on a road, and this room is at the front of the house, so you can hear the cars moving along. However, the house is set back from the road, so it's not a considerable annoyance, and there is not much that the Inn can do about that. As it is, they do have an AC unit in the room, so it's easy to keep windows closed. Room 2 has a great free standing bathtub and a comfy and quiet bed. You don't share a wall with any other guests since the bathroom separates your bedroom from other guests, so it's very private.

We spent a heavenly week at the Harbourview Inn just outside of Digby, and have been searching our…read morecalendars for when we can go back. To frame this review in the appropriate context, I should let you know that I'm not typically a fan of B&Bs. They can be uncomfortable and don't always offer the amenities I like when traveling. After a week at the Harbourview, I've decided I've just been staying in the wrong B&Bs. I'll start with the worst part of the stay, because it was fairly minor. It's quite out of the way, so if you're not good at following directions, you can get turned around. However, the Innkeeper, Darren, gave us great directions and we drove directly to it. That's pretty much all I can say that was at all negative. The rooms were very clean and nicely appointed. The Inn has a DVD player and a selection of movies you can check out, but I don't know why you'd want to. We started each day with a wonderful breakfast - it's imperative that you try the jams and jellies each day - and then spent the rest of the day in the surrounding area, with day trips to Annapolis Royal, Wolfville, and Brier Island for some truly spectacular whale watching. We'd return to the Inn each evening, where several of the guests - and usually either or both of the owners, Darren and Vance - would enjoy a glass of wine recounting the day's adventures. The Inn offers a wide variety of beers and wines. This was the most comfortable and inviting setting I could have imagined. You can walk on the grounds with two different trails - one to the beach in about 5-10 minutes and another to a lighthouse in about 30-40 minutes. There is a computer available if you must log on, though I barely found time once a day to do this (despite being one of "those" connected types). Finally, the best part of the experience was the staff, who were superb. I can't imagine a better group than we had. Indeed, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in or around Digby for any reason.

Amazing summer stay!!!…read more We had the absolute pleasure of staying in the Winchester House of the Harbourview Inn for August of 2020 and we can hardly wait to go back next year! Our unit came with a fully equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher), a washer dryer and even a whirlpool bathtub. Our room was quaintly decorated and the bed very comfortable. We loved having breakfast on the side patio and Greg and Belinda even supplied us with a bbq for our month long stay. We received excellent value for our stay. We made sure to explore the local walking paths and swam in the pool daily. We also enjoyed beachcombing and the playground daily but the true icing on the cake were Greg and Belinda. They were incredibly helpful and friendly to make sure we got to enjoy all the local hidden treasures of Smiths Cove and the surrounding areas.

As former award winning innkeepers from Woodstock VT we know how many places are not only operated by folks who really don't resonate with hospitality as a profession, but also seem to be unable to be consistent in how they offer it. Kevin and Lesley have found a level and deliver with aplomb, clearly loving human interaction. Whilst the style of the inn is not one I would seek out, the owners clearly love it, clean it and offer a very gentle personal service. The plumbing is a little noisy but it's an old building and really doesn't disturb you. The bathroom provided a range of complimentary lotions and potions, the bedroom all manner of tea/coffee and more. Even fresh milk was offered however I had my own. The bed was traditional in height, comfortable and with decent pillows. Air conditioning is provided and exceptionally quiet it was to; not one of those noisy window units. The breakfast was prescriptive and as I really cannot abide french toast, Kevin provided me with some scrambled eggs and bacon without any fuss. My one small piece of advice, given to me decades ago by a hospitality professional I will happily share. The innkeeper owns the vertical surfaces; the client the horizontal ones. I had to clear space to allow the use of my laptop, the bathroom again would benefit from a clear surface to place personal items. Simple to enact.....and this would also allow for easier dusting.... Believe you and me EVERY nook, cranny and corner had been dusted which I found impressive as the place contains an awful lot of nostalgia. The cherry on the cake; I left a power lead behind. An e-mail quickly made its way to me offering to send it, keep it etc. However I was able to return to pick it up the next day. That was the sign of a true innkeeper.

Huge windows and a private balcony made it the perfect place to sit with a glass of wine as the sun went down, and being able to look over the water. The bed was SO comfortable, and it was a wonderful setup. I easily could have stayed there for days. Breakfast is served at 7:30 and 9, and was really delicious the day I stayed. The owners were lovely people who had lots of brochures about places around the area. I would only knock off half a star because the cleaning crew started cleaning my room while I was at breakfast, even though I was checking out that morning. I had to wait for them to finish so I could pack and finish getting ready, and then they were irritated with me that they had to go back in and clean again. Clearly miscommunication on their part, and not a huge deal, but it was definitely a little irritating. I'll definitely come back here again.

It's probably the best room in the place, with gorgeous views from two sides. It is a simple room, but spacious and with everything you need. The sitting area has two chairs and a coffee table. There is a comfortable queen bed and a little service area with a counter, mini-fridge, and coffee/tea fixings. The bathroom has a tub/shower and more than adequate fittings. The main building does have a sitting area as well, if you need more than you have in your room. Breakfast is served at 2 seatings, 7:30 and 9:00. It is a fixed menu that was different on each of our mornings but always delicious and appealingly presented. We would definitely stay here again. We gave it 4 stars rather than 5 just because it is relatively basic and the chairs in our room were not very comfortable. But I don't quarrel with many of the 5 star ratings -- definitely an excellent value and a nice place to stay.

We arrived early, with the understanding that our rooms may not be ready. We did call ahead, and the woman who answered the phone said she would do her best. We understood completely. Upon arrival, they were still cleaning our rooms. Most of the rooms had the doors propped wide open. It was winter. The cleaning staff (a man and a woman) were trudging in and out of several rooms, wearing dirty rubber boots. All the while, the woman kept loudly complaining about how sick she was, not wearing gloves or a mask while "cleaning". As well, she was hollering about how much one of the other rooms "smelled like pot". We patiently waited, as we understood we'd arrived early. They told us the cleaning was complete. I went in to do a once-over of my workmate's room, only to find the room smelled heavily of cigarette smoke (this was a different room than the "pot room"), crumbs in her mattress, and most of the surfaces, which were glass covered, were covered in crumbs and had drink circles all over them. Not clean at all. I found the cleaning staff two rooms over and requested they take another look at the room, explaining the things we found. I was given a look by the sick woman, but they said they'd get to it after they finished the rest of the rooms. Not a problem. We decided then to go to the local grocery store to get some cleaning supplies ourselves, as we were worried about getting sick from the cleaning woman. When we returned, the rest of the rooms had their cleaning completed, so I entered my room. I decided to open my dresser drawers. The top drawer was full of crumbs and liquids. The second drawer, to my complete horror, was full of SOILED BEDSHEETS. (See pictures attached.) I was DISGUSTED. We packed all of our luggage back into our vans and got out of there as quickly as possible. If you care about your health and wellbeing, DO NOT STAY AT THE ANNAPOLIS ROYAL INN.
