Jamison Hanson was referred to us by a friend and his father who were already clients, and I appreciated the firm's methodical approach. They use a calculated risk at a level we were comfortable with at each stage of life. Money management is all about managing risk and minimizing expenses in the process. Not having a financial background, I have benefited greatly from what I have learned through our partnership with Steven Jamison. I don't feel comfortable with the black box approach to decision-making where I put in money and hopefully more comes out. At every meeting there's a new detail of the evolving tax law and our changing financial situation, which leads to a range of choices to better position ourselves in our retirement. Steven's explanations increase our understanding of our finances, which helps us make the best choice consistent with our goals. We have recommended Steven to multiple people. I believe his greatest selling point is that I trust him! With his measured approach to management, I don't feel like we are gambling; we are managing risk. I love Charles Schwab but I would recommend using one of their financial adviser's in another…read morebranch. On Aug 7th I had a meeting to setup two accounts and get some advice. I called to inform them I was running ten minutes late and when I arrived, John, was meeting with a couple who had walked in. Instead of my scheduled meeting with John I spoke with his wife Melanie. She setup the two accounts without any problems and I left with the plan to follow up with John and have several questions answered. Some questions where time sensitive and others were for future planning. The following day I called and talked to Preston to get John's email address. Melanie didn't have a card to give me the previous day and I couldn't find an email address on Schwab's website. Preston didn't know it off the top of his head but was able to look it up. I sent two emails to John and waited for a response. After three days I hadn't gotten any response or even acknowledgment that they had received my emails. I called and again talked to Preston. He verified that I used the correct email and said that John would call me in a few minutes which he did. He apologized and said he had been busy and started reading my email questions. They primarily involved a trust and it was late in the day on Friday so we agreed he would look into it further on Monday and get back to me. Eleven days later I had not heard anything I called and asked Preston if I could talk to Melanie. Knowing she was John's wife and she had originally setup my accounts maybe she could help me. She apologized and said she would go over my emails with John and one of them would get back to me in a few hours after lunch. That was two days ago. To date I have contacted their office several times, they have continually told me they would get back to me and I have yet to receive a single answer to any of my original questions. The time window that I needed some of my questions answered came and went. I would recommend anyone needing service from Schwab to work with the offices of Eugene or Bend. I have had good experiences with both. Actually I got more answers from an online chat with a Schwab employee than I got from John and Melanie in the Salem Branch.

John is very knowledgeable and able to explain the ins and outs of investing in either ETFs or Mutual Funds in a way the ordinary person with not much experience can understand. He is not only very professional but also very friendly and we look forward to working with him in developing our future financial investments.

So I'm reading the reviews on this place and if you read them all, the one star'd submissions are…read moreall frustrated individuals that seem to forget that EVERY financial institution has hiccups like this. I've had Chase, BOFA, KeyBank, ALL of them work like this. Just because you're disgruntled because you can't reach a body fast enough by phone does not warrant a 1 star review. Let me tell you about my experience(s) there thus far. I've had them for about a year. My credit card was hacked once [online purchase] and they caught it immediately. Every single time I go in there I am greeted immediately. Every service I've ever needed was taken care of promptly, from new cards, to coin counting, to ordering checks. I have the mobile app which I pay bills from, there is NEVER an issue they don't handle immediately. And let me tell you what happened just this morning. Thank you LISA FROM THE WIRE TRANSFER DEPARTMENT. I completed the wire for something that should have been paid for YESTERDAY. And while the payment was not late, it was a matter of confirming with my seller that the payment was made for shipping purposes. So I called the 800 customer service number, I hit 4..then I hit 3. And I was connected immediately. I didn't have to wait, I wasn't 10th in line, and it's already 9:40am on a Tuesday..if that tells you anything. So I explained to the young man what it was I did, and how I did it. He confirmed the payment would not go out until TOMORROW. *ALL* financial institutions work their wire departments differently. OCCU likes to LOOK at each one they just don't send them out [thank you fraud department measures!] but when I explained why and what it was, he asked if he could put me on hold. When he came back he said LISA in the wire department would pull mine and process it AND send me an email today of when it was completed. IF THAT ISN'T SERVICE AND KINDNESS I DONT KNOW WHAT IS. I asked if I could send them cookies or pizza as a thank you and he said "just pay it forward and make someone else smile we're glad we could assist you with your transaction that's why we are here". WHEN do you ever hear something like that from a customer service representative any more? KUDOS to them. Post pandemic people have no patience any more. BUT remember please-the reason you USE THEM is because they provide the human touch service large banks do not. WELL DONE OCCU! and many thanks.

Place is a joke. My loan is setup for automatic payments, that they don't take out. And goodluck…read moregetting ahold of someone. Good ol liberal Oregonians screwing it to the working man. What a joke. Been on hold for 18 minutes, still no rep on the phone. So I must not be the only one with issues. SMH Spent 35 minutes on hold, finally clicked for a call back. Lady calls back and is useless. I made a payment Saturday since they can't do the simplest of tasks. Came out of my account today, she goes I see nothing. I wouldn't trust them to watch a stuffed animal, yet alone be a financial institution. She can't tell me why 1/2 payment was taken last month, can't explain to me why I can't make additional payments and apply it to prinicipal. I have to wait for a call back after creating a ticket. Talk about a waste of time. Will be contacting the appropriate channels to get this sham of a company some sort of discipline. As they seem to think they can or can't do what they're supposed to do. AVOID THIS POS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

We had been watching property in a very specific part of town for nearly two years. As our country's financial outlook began to turn gloomy, we decided we'd better pull the trigger quickly before rates went to the moon. A friend we trust recommended Phil Gerstner at Lighthouse Home Loans. We reached out to Phil and the rest is history. Understand, we've bought and sold more than a dozen properties in a couple of decades and we have NEVER had such an OUTSTANDING experience as we did with Phil and his team. We thought for certain we'd waited too long and would pay the price through high rates. Phil shopped our loan HARD and found us several options to choose from that made sense and were manageable for us. Phil took the time to teach us about the process, broke each option down into steps that helped us understand potential outcomes BEFORE we made a decision. I initally asked how much he charged and how long he thought it would take to prepare my business and personal taxes. I never got an answer to my question - which should have been my first clue. I received the invoice in the mail, for almost $900. That amount can cripple a small business. The invoice didn't specify or have a breakdown of why it was so much. When I called the office for clarification, I was told the tax prep took almost 5 hours. 2 hours alone to input previous years taxes into "the system." When I asked what "the system" was, I was only told their internal system. The past years filings from previous accountants took 1-2 hours. For a firm this size, I don't see how a simple return can take 5 hours.
