Important to know up front: the address for this restaurant is the address for the entire SI-Centrum complex, and shows on the south side of Plieninger Strasse. In reality, Braustube Sclossturm is on the north side of the road in the underground portion of the complex. It can be reached from the main complex by crossing the street at the crosswalk, or by taking the hotel's tunnel under the street (the better bet since the restaurant is underground anyways).
If you are looking for German fare while staying at the Dormero, and don't want to be bothered to walk into Mohringen, this is your best bet. To get here from the hotel, take the underground tunnel from the main complex entrance between the red and white towers (the glass atrium where people enter for the theater). Once you go under the roadway, the tunnel becomes and underground mall of sorts, with several restaurants and shops. Braustube Schlossturm has a biergarten of sorts, cafe seating and wooden benches and tables a bunch of skylights (closed when we were there), and apparently when the weather is nice they have an actual outdoor biergarten over by the lobby for the Dormero (also closed when we were there).
As always, seating is seat-yourself, and a server will show up eventually. We didn't have to wait too long for our server here, and out beers came out quickly as well. My schweineschnitzel with fries was fine; nothing exciting, but schweineschnitzel rarely is. The schweinshaxe looked decent, and my colleague happily polished it off, but I've seen better elsewhere in Stuttgart (e.g., Altstadtlokal Funzel in Sindelfingen).
Bottom Line: Probably your best choice in the hotel complex itself, but there are better options not too far away if you are willing to walk towards or into Mohringen. read more
