I really wanted to like Brasa Norte because they have such a good deal for the tomahawk and ribeye steaks. Unfortunately, it was too good to be true and I left feeling disappointed. Located inside Market on 8th, Brasa Norte sells a variety of Mexican dishes but it's probably most known for selling steaks at a very affordable price. As far as I can tell, there isn't a dedicated parking lot for this food hall and we just parked along the street for free. If you're here to specifically try the ribeyes, make sure you come Mon-Thurs, when it's a bit cheaper. It's a good tactic to draw in crowds during slower periods and if you're part of the military, you can get some discounts too! Once you order through the kiosk, you'll get a buzzer and you can sit anywhere you like. There are a ton of long tables indoor and outdoor so if it's busy, you might have to share with another group. I didn't find an area to activate military benefits on the kiosk. Also, instead of indicating how you would like you steaks cooked on the kiosk, we were asked about it in-person after ordering. The Ribeye meal comes with a 12 oz. ribeye steak, one bone marrow, two quesadillas, guacamole, refried beans, and grilled onions and peppers. It smelled amazing but the ribeye was overcooked and kind of dry, even though I had asked for medium rare. I also didn't think it was salted enough. Out of everything, I liked the quesadillas the most because of whatever cheese they used. I also tried the Cabeza Taco and Queso Birria Taco. The cabeza was a bunch of shredded meats and I didn't notice any fatty chunks I've come to expect. The Queso Birria Taco was good though. Very saucy and meaty. Overall, I was disappointed with the meal because I was really looking forward to some delicious ribeye for a fraction of the cost compared to other restaurants. You really do get what you pay for.

Brasa Norte is the latest taco vendor to occupy this stall at the Market on 8th food hall in National City. Originally, another Mexican business was going to serve grilled steaks as part of its menu, but I don't believe that ever happened. Besides the four cuts of steaks offered (top sirloin, New York, ribeye, tomahawk), a variety of tacos and burritos made up the rest of the menu. Although the steaks looked like a good deal, I focused on a couple of tacos for my order. The Asada and Suadero were my choices with the first one being made up of top sirloin choice. The second used meat from the navel of the cow. Cilantro and onions topped each taco with a healthy dollop of guacamole added to the Asada taco. The sirloin cut was more tender while the navel meat had more flavor. Condiments (e.g. pico de gallo) and salsa were available at the counter so you could help yourself. Each taco was about street size, and the prices were reasonable. If you have the appetite and are willing to shell out a little more money, then I do have to say the steaks and bone marrow are the most interesting items out of all the food hall vendors. I gave a four star rating for my visit to Brasa Norte.

Man are you kidding! I'm coming here for steak tacos for now on!! Got the prime rib tacos and they were bomb! Meat was fresh and cooked medium with the right amount of seasoning. The fresh salsas of every color and their pineapple sour cream was amazing! There kiosk gives you steak house vibes with a view of the whole kitchen and it well lit. Service was fast and Hines you could see the cook doing his thing and in 10 minutes boom my tacos were ready. My friend loved the brown salsa!

Came here with the wifey for a chill date night and checked out Brasa Norte inside Market & 8th. First things first the vibe is low-key and quiet, which was perfect for us. This isn't your traditional steakhouse experience. There's no table service you order from a self-serve kiosk, then the grill master calls you up to ask how you like your meat cooked. Definitely different, but it works. I'll be honest, I came specifically for the T-bone steak... and of course, it was sold out. Heartbroken indeed! Ended up going with the ribeye instead, and for $20 including a bone marrow, two quesadillas and refried beans it was a solid deal. Is it the highest-quality ribeye? No. But for the price point, you're getting a good cut cooked to your preference, and it hit the spot.

Located inside Market on 8th, we came to try their grilled rib-eye steak special, which came with bone marrow, 2 quesadillas, small beans, guacamole, grilled onions and pepper. On the side, they offered homemade salsas, cucumbers, and lime. The ribeye steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare where the meat had some fat but overall was tender and not chewy or tough. It came nicely seasoned. The bone marrow was also cooked well where it was a drippy, fatty chonk of marrow. I would definitely come back in a heartbeat assuming that they are able to consistently grill the steak the same way!! Such a great deal and so delicious!!

What an awesome experience! This place is located inside Market on 8th in National City. The place can get crowded, but there is always seating available inside and outdoors. The 2 lbs Tomahawk Steak was so incredible, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. It comes with two bone marrows, four quesadillas, guacamole, refried beans, and grilled onions and peppers. It's more than enough for two people, and for $44.99, it's a fantastic deal. The presentation was impressive, and the long bone helped keep the meat juicy and tender. The watermelon drink was super refreshing, and their salsa went perfectly with both the meat and quesadillas. The service was just as great, the person at the register greeted everyone with a smile, and the grill master was friendly and welcoming. We also really appreciate the military discount. My husband and I had to let them know how much we loved the food. We'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Today we visited 32nd Naval Base and afterwards our son wanted to eat some meat. My wife suggested to visit MARKET ON 8th. It was a short drive from 32nd base but when we arrived it was hard for us to find parking, maybe it's because it's the weekend. We walked around inside the Market on 8th and our Son kept saying NO to every stall my wife suggested but suddenly stopped on this BRASA NORTE STEAK & TACOS. My son immediately told my wife to order the steak here, it was a fast decision my wife ordered right away their TOMAHAWK STEAK for 2 person and their RIBEYE STEAK. Their Tomahawk was a 2lb steak and comes with 2 Bone Morrows , 4 quesadillas and more for only $44.99 and this steak is Tender and cooked nicely medium rare the way we wanted. The Ribeye for $24.99 is also juicy and also Tender and actually more tender than the Tomahawk, and this one is good too. They have a sign in their counter that says if you go Monday to Thursday their Ribeye is $3 less than their regular price. Staff here are friendly and quick . I enjoyed their Steak here and there's more in their Menu that we wanna try next time Also, they have a sign that they also offer MILITARY discounts so that's a really good deal too .

Brasa Norte is the real deal. It might look like a simple taco stand, but the quality here is on another level. I ordered the ribeye it blew me away. Perfect char, super juicy, and seasoned just right, you can taste the care they put into every bite. You can tell these guys are passionate about good food. If you love legit grilled meats and bold flavor, Brasa Norte is a must. I'll definitely be back hungry.

I wanted to love this place but unfortunately I don't know if I'll come back, at least not for the steak. My wife and I came here about a month ago and got the steak plate. Everything on the plate was amazing except for the steak. Ours were both completely raw when we asked for medium rare :/ the staff was chill and friendly but it was a real bummer since we were both starving. Luckily we got a few tacos too which were great ! I'd recommend the quesadillas though! They were amazing !

Thank you for the good food and service

We visited Market on 8th after shopping at the 32nd Naval base 'coz it wasn't that far of a drive to it, plus I wanna see whats new at Market on 8th. Walking around inside, my Son noticed a Steak spot called "BRASA NORTE STEAKS and TACOS," so we decided that that's where we were gonna get our food. Getting closer to the place, I saw a bunch of Selections like Steaks, Tacos, Burittos, and more. My Son and husband ordered right away. We got: *TOMAHAWK for Two *RIBEYE At first I'm very skeptical if we were gonna enjoy their Steak 'coz the Price is only $44.99 for the Tomahawk with a lot of other food included on it. The TOMAHAWK and RIBEYE includes BONE MARROW, QUESADILLAS, and BEANS, as well as complimentary condiments of your choice from their counter. They also have a lot of Drinks to choose from, but we got our drinks from the other store we saw before we saw Brasa. Both Steaks are so Tender and cooked right, a Medium rare steak. The Steak quality is not that high nor that bad, it's just in the MIDDLE. The Staff are very nice, and we enjoy seeing them cooking our steaks 'coz we sat on a table that was in front of their place. Brasa also offers Military discounts. Plenty of food to choose from at Brasa, we will still order their steaks on our next visit there, but next time we will also try their Burritos and Tacos. Parking, omg I do not know if that is an everyday thing in there 'coz it's way to hard to find one, or maybe it's just because we went on a busy Saturday.

Loaded nachos. Carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, cilantro. 6/6/25

I'm excited to see Market on 8th get a rebirth of new vendors! I've heard many great things about Brasa Norte and their steaks (Tomahawks, top sirloin, & rib eyes). But, for some reason I always gravitate to nachos!! I can't help it!! Brass Norte also has flat screens displaying some of their items. And everything looks tempting! I have mixed feelings with my order of nachos. The guacamole just drenched my order... and of course- one can't complain bc we know if we order from Chipotle- they're infamous quote- "Extra for guac." I had to use a fork to somewhat distribute the carne asada and fixings onto the stale tortilla rounds. Another bummer. The menu listing didn't mention beans of any kind. So, underneath the many layers- you'll find refried beans and plenty of thick melted jack cheese. I'm more of a cheese sauce kinda gal with nachos. But, there was no shortage cheese. But, once the cheese cooled down- it would clump up and you'd find yourself trying to make that clumped up cheese into smaller portions either by hand- or risk using your fork and breaking some of those stale tortilla rounds into pieces. The fresa horchata was delicious. Next time- I'll skip the nachos and try a few other items.

5 Stars - Legit One of the Best Ribeyes I've Had Brasa Norte is fire. It's a taco stand, but don't let that fool you. This place brings serious flavor and quality. I had the ribeye with bone marrow, and it was absolutely unreal. Perfectly grilled, juicy, with just the right amount of char and flaky salt on top. You can see the quality in every bite. The bone marrow added that rich, buttery depth that made it feel way more than a taco stand meal. The grilled onions were sweet and smoky, and the quesadillas? Golden, crispy edges with melted cheese that pulls just right. Bonus points for the salsa and guac on the side--everything just works together. You can tell they care about the food here. If you're into grilled meats and no-BS flavor, this is your spot. Definitely coming back hungry!

You can't beat the prices at this place. I would have given a 5, but steak was on the salty side.

Ribeye medium rare. Excellent

You order and pay first, then they call your name when everything's ready. Service was nice and straightforward. The salsa bar was clean and stocked with fresh limes, two salsas, and radishes. There are a few tables inside plus a bigger table, but we chose to sit outside on the patio. It was clean, comfortable, and the weather made it easy to eat outside. Cabeza: $3.69. Super juicy and packed with flavor. If you like cabeza, this one hits. It came with onions and cilantro and didn't need much else. Lengua: $4.38. Lengua is usually my go-to, and this one was cooked really well. Not greasy at all, which I appreciated. The texture was right, and the flavor was solid, especially with extra lime. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't order more than one at that price. Adobada: $3.69 each. These were my husband's favorite. They come with a creamy green salsa that isn't at the salsa bar, and it pairs really well with the pork. Probably the safest order here. I'd come back to try other items since they have a lot of different cuts and styles, but the prices do make you pause a little, especially if you're ordering multiple tacos.

While their catering service is still awesome, the everyday food here has completely missed the mark. On my recent visit, the al pastor was exceptionally chewy and the flavor was just off. To top it off, the service was incredibly unenthusiastic. The cashier had a poor attitude and seemed like she would rather be doing absolutely anything other than her job. Given the current prices and the noticeable drop in quality, I think it is best to stick to other taco shops in the area. After some research, my wife discovered this hidden gem tucked away in an up-and-coming part of the city, just a short 3-mile drive from our hotel--and it was absolutely worth it! The carne en su jugo was incredible--tender beef, smoky bacon, and hearty beans all simmered in a rich, peppery broth with just the right amount of heat. Blanca, our server, was wonderfully friendly and made us feel right at home. Instead of simply explaining there may be an extra charge, one of the workers came out making comments about how "that's a lot of sauce for one burrito," which honestly felt unnecessary and unprofessional. To make things worse, the business response on here exaggerated what I even asked for. I never asked for 9 salsa cups -- I asked for 6 total (3 red and 3 green). The salsa cups are also extremely small, which is why I asked for extra in the first place. The issue was never really about paying extra. It was about how the situation was handled. Taco shops all across San Diego either have salsa bars or don't make customers feel uncomfortable for asking for extra sauce. If there's a limit or additional charge policy, that's completely fine -- but it should be clearly posted beforehand instead of making comments toward customers after they order. The food is decent, but professionalism and customer service matter too. This experience definitely changed my opinion of the place. I attached photos for reference. The salsa cup they serve is the one next to the lighter, and as you can see, the portions are extremely small. That's the reason I asked for extra salsa in the first place. I also included a comparison photo from another taco shop in San Diego that has a full salsa bar and doesn't make customers feel uncomfortable or judged for wanting extra salsa.
