La Fonda - Sancocho, beans, rice plate with avocado and Colombian coleslaw.

La Fonda is located down a slight obscure alley, not far from the Opera House. The space is…read morecompact, but holds a number of tables. Go early as it did fill up on a Sunday for dinner. We arrived at 6:30pm. I'd have given this five stars had there been more entree options available on the menu. But out of eight main dishes, five were unavailable. However, what we did end up having was delicious. Starter: Beef empanadas, two small but delicious empanadas with lots of flavor, served with a spicy salsa. Mains: Bandeja paisa - if you love pork belly, this is a deep fried strip of pork belly, served with rice that has a fried egg on top, half a plantain, a tostone, shredded beef, half an avocado, and what I'll assume is a Colombian coleslaw (on the vinegary side). The soup, Sancocho, was a delicious concoction of beef and pork ribs, with potatoes, plantains and yucca. Comes with rice, half the avo, and the same coleslaw. Service was straightforward and friendly. Their English was limited, as was our French and Spanish, but the order sheet and picture menu were helpful. Give it a go. Family run, unpretentious, no loud dance music playing, and there didn't seem to be a ton of tourists. Our meal as noted above with three waters ran us €47. CASH ONLY.

Very disappointing. Came in here after checking out different restaurants in the area. Being Cuban,…read moreI was quite excited once I saw the menu. They had a good selection of foods and a kids menu. I was looking forward to having my friends try a little different cuisine. Walked in, plenty of spaces in the first floor (didn't even look in the second floor but I'm sure they also had space up there). However, our group of 9 people was turned away and we were told we couldn't be seated because "there was no space". I mean, I could clearly see several empty tables. Weather was bad, we had kids in tow, and after a busy day we were ready to eat some good food and head back home. It's a shame we couldn't do it here. Gladly though, I was able to find a nice Italian restaurant right around the corner with great food, amazing service and as accommodating as they could (consider they were indeed quite packed, very unlike Cafe Latino).

Nachos with some spiced up minced meat and little tomato cubes. Very tasty! Main dish I had some beef fajitas, not the best I ever had and they weren't served as most Mexican restaurants do, sizzling in a cast iron pan. More or less OK The service on the other hand was bad, the waiters were particularly unfriendly and slow. The ten euro mojito, came with little alcohol and lots of crushed ice. I'm giving this restaurant the benefit of the doubt, maybe they just had a bad day. But the fact that it's pricey remains unchanged.
