Took a cat there to spay for catch and release in the summer. Upon picking up the cat he had half of his ear clipped off bleeding profusely and he didn't wake up for over 12 hrs. Ear became infected he then started having seizures. I wouldn't take a rat there. read more

Important Update: 4/1 I received a call from the COO. While the past cannot be corrected, I truly feel that this will never happen again to anyone and that this is a learning experience. My story was listened to and sympathized with. They offered to reimburse my expenses without me having to ask, gave a heartfelt apology and the belief that the SPCA does care about animals. So thank you Mr. Kaviani! I hope that your staff sees how much you care and emulate that. Ruth is a dog that I have been fostering since April 2023. Ruth passed away last night while waiting for the SPCA to figure out if I am fostering her or if I had adopted her. Apparently someone put on my file that I gave verbal consent to adopt. Yet I had to sign a contract to foster. I never gave any kind of consent to adopt her. Actually, I had got tired of having to remind them of that every time I called or went in so I finally stopped checking in with them since it was a waste of my time. No one ever contacted me. Last year I spent over $700 (as a single mom) in vet bills because her health was so bad coming from them, and they weren't doing any exams just throwing antibiotics at her. So I paid for the vet bills and lucky I did because she was in very poor shape. Lime disease, kennel cough (which the SPCA said she didn't have but she gave it to my dog too, so yay more vet bills) and a really bad UTI that was impacting her kidneys. Now, fast forward to yesterday. I get home and Ruth is not doing ok. I rush to the animal hospital and then end up going back and forth when I call the emergency # that is on my foster contract. They said they won't pay, I have to! Whelp, while going back and forth on the phone with the SPCA, explaining how urgent it is that she be seen immediately, Ruth seized and died in my car in the parking lot of the emergency vet. They did call back while she was seizing and I found out while carrying her body into the building. The tone of the conversation changed from this being a "me" problem to it being a real situation they needed to try to deescalate, so they agreed to take care of her body. Show up at 328 and they tell me I'm late for my 315. Now everyone else gets to be seen before me as I wait with my sick pet. Because holy fruits, I was here 2 minutes early. read more

We had appointment to put our dog down today it was very peaceful they were so sweet and caring. We stayed with our SirLance until he went to sleep. It was heartbreaking to see. The manager of the business did not show any compassion to my landlady who is going through a difficult time and the fact that in the managers words she stated, "Tell me which dog do you want me to put out on the street so I can take yours?". Well, so much for trying to follow a process. All in all the manager isn't customer friendly and probably operates on a single brain cell because it's too hard to hold a proper customer oriented conversation. I am 67 years old and this is the first review I have ever written. My daughter who is learning disabled with autism went to the Dover SPCA to look for a dog after her dog of 10 years died suddenly. She went with her sister and was sold a sick dog with a heart worm which they should not have done. She was not capable of caring for the dog . I did not know the seriousness and my daughter said she was in love and wanted to keep the dog. I contacted the vet and was told that the treatment for the dog would take about 3 months, that was in June and then in September before the final treatment would be another month and after the treatment was told 2 more months. I called to schedule final test in November and was told 6 months and after all that time dog may still be sick. It has been very difficult to care for the dog. I not only have to care for my disabled daughter but a dog that is not allowed to be a dog. I am taking the dog to a real vet and hope to get honest and real help to care for the dog. I would never get involved with an SPCA and my experience would like to see them in jail. read more
