Outstanding vet team. Dr. Perza, Dr. Giilison, and Vet staff ( which I cant remember their names- but they are the main ones (techs, front desk, office staff) that keep the system running) have always been top notch. Even to the point of requesting an urgent appointment, and the staff squeezing us in. I cant express my relief knowing I was able to have Dr. Perza and staff assist in the time we needed them. Our situtation has been dealing with multiple animals, with average issues, and each time was dealt with professionalism, options, care, and respect. Yesterday, 11/11/2024, we had an appointment for 2 of our Tuxedo cats. It first started out at 9 and 9:30 then they called my husband and asked if they could change the time to 10:30 as there was a problem with the one of the vets. He said no problem. We get there with our fur babies and was told we missed our appointment and couldn't be seen. I said no it was changed and Hannah, CSR Supervisor, stated we have all the text. Well, apparently nobody changed it in the system. This was the second time this happened with our cats. Hannah was very rude. UPDATE: The manager called me back and was quite nice. She was informative and didn't know who answered the phone previously (call center?) It is so sad that our Air Force families have to have this level of customer care. I called to see if they had any referrals for a cat dermatologist and the young lady who answered the phone was so rude and disrespectful as well as dismissive. She goes yeah we don't have that here you'll have to call around and find out where they have one. I said that's what I'm doing could you ask your Doctor Who they refer her out to and she put me on hold for a split second. Then said yeah we don't do that you need to call around. I said you have an office manager she said she's in a meeting right now. I was like OK so you weren't able to talk to the office manager or the veterinarian to ask who they refer out to dermatology? but you're telling me that they don't do it and to call around. I asked her what her name was and she refused and I also asked if she's physically in the location or if it's a call center she also refused. I told her she needs to work on her customer service skills and I certainly hope that they re-staff the front office if this is what people have to deal with. read more

I took my dog here about 9 months ago for limited mobility muscle stiffness and inability to raise his head completely. The vet whos name I don't remember looked about 20 assured me my dog was just old, (he's a small breed only 7) didn't run a single test or even do much besides take his temperature and look in his ears and charged me over 100$ for the appointment. I ended up taking to him to a different vet after the problem persisted on and off, and that vet did a actual X-ray and ran tests and he had inflammation of the disks in his spine of left untreated could have paralyzed him. He is currently in aggressive treatment for a problem that could've been managed earlier and easier if the vets here had took my concerns seriously. I've also had other vets here be rude to me on other occasions. Do yourself a favor and take your animals to Brenford. read more

This place has great reviews, unfortunately that was not my experience. The doctor we got was great! Very kind. The first time I went in had to wait 20min past my appointment time even after arriving 15mins early with no one else in the waiting room. Second time I didn't even get seen got fed up with the wait and left. I arrived 30mins early front doors were still locked waited outside employees noticed me but failed to acknowledge me or let me now how much longer. At this point it's about 5mins till my scheduled appointment and front door is still locked this is beyond ridiculous, how can this business expect repeat customers if every time you go in for a 15min appointment it turns into an hour long appointment minimum. Besides it taking forever the prices are definitely more expensive here then other locations. read more

I have survived in Delaware with three dog rescues, and three cat rescues, from Mexico City to Delaware by car, with Sunday clinics in Delaware /Seaford thanks Pet Vet that travels to Seaford Tractor, never an issue. But I wanted to find a regular vet, and went to VCA for the first time. I am VERY hesitent on picking any one and waited until a place felt right, as these three dogs have seen alot from Mexico City to Delaware, so it had to be the right place. VCA was the right fit for Wriggley, a golden afghan hound. The arrival was easy, the doctor, Douglas Gilison, V.M.D. , was informative and helpful, and very generous with his time and care of Wriggley. Ears cleaned, blood test for lime disease, looked at his paw for possible strain, and helped with future suggestions. Funny, helpful, and hospital, all the staff was from beginning to end. When I left I saw Wriggley's name had been written on the board which was a nice touch as he was new. This helps ease of mind when your family is well taken care of, and is not easy with so many people, their pets, and their concerns. read more

VCA was our primary clinic since January 2018 when we first rescued our puppy. Everything was great with our regular vet (Gilison, was his name I ). He was friendly, quick, polite, and helpful since this is our first dog. Recently we had a HORRIBLE experience with a new vet at the clinic. Our pet was 7months at the time of this incident, weighs about 60lbs, he's a Boxer mix (first photo included). We were waiting 30 minutes past our scheduled appointment before we went back, then waited another 20 minutes before the vet even came in. This vet (Bernard, I believe) was not our usual and was quite rude. We had gone in for a nail trim and to have a semi-severe cut looked at. Upon entering the exam room the vet seemed annoyed and irritated that we were there, rushing through questions, interrupting us, and making snide remarks about our dog's antsy behavior. He goes to get the nail clippers and yanks the leash out of my boyfriend's hand before telling the tech that our dog is aggressive and is going to need a muzzle. We have NEVER needed to use a muzzle and he was scared when the tech tried to put it on. The vet then held my dog between his legs and held his leash so tight my pet was yelping so the tech could fit on a muzzle. We were in shock and didn't know how to react. He then throws the leash as he released him and says "your dog isn't able to be restrained so take him home. I don't want to waste my time." (Our dog is now huddled in the corner, hairs raised, growling whenever this man comes towards him.) The tech suggests a sedative to help calm him and having a different tech come handle it. We agree because he needs to have his cut examined. Well $95 and 20 minutes later my dog is still not sedated and is still terrified in the corner. We left without his exam, without his nails trimmed, and without any explanation as to why our dog was handled this way. Once we got home our dog collapsed on the floor almost as soon as we walked in. The sedative finally kicked in after 30 minutes, we were told it would be 10 at the clinic). He was then limp, dead weight for the next 4 hours (see second photo). I will not be returning here until this "vet" is gone. He was rude, unhelpful, and just abusive. Save your money and your pet's sanity and go elsewhere. read more

My dog Jax was having trouble breathing and was throwing up. I called VCA to bring him in to be seen immediately and they told me they had no more appointments for that day, sadly I had to take Jax to emergency care and he passed that afternoon. VCA is the most horrible vet I have ever experienced. I never even had a good experience with a regular vet visit. So thanks for nothing you are the worst. read more

I have been here twice, with a third appointment scheduled. The ONLY reason I have kept this appointment and not gone somewhere else is because of their hours. Both experiences were with my brand new puppy, (I've never owned a dog before) and were at 5:30PM. We were rushed through the entire appointment, had an iPad shoved in my face while the doctor was talking to me to get me to agree to pay for all of this stuff, not even sure what it's for. They charged me for random medicines and things I did not ask for. Every time we've been it's completely obvious that we are the last appointment of the day and everyone was so eager to get us out of there both times. Last time we were asked if we had anything we wanted the doctor to look at, I said yes, the vet tech came in and gave my dog a shot and then they said "Okay thanks for stopping by, we'll get you checked out at the front" I said, "Well I wanted to ask the doctor about xxx", to which she goes "oh, right. let me go get him". Dr. G comes in, and acted like he was so incredibly annoyed to be there and that he was asked to check on such a 'non issue'. My questions are never answered here, it seems like we are just an inconvenience in everyone's day, and it is insanely overpriced!!! Once my dog is finished with his starter shots, I will be finding a nice vet who LISTENS to me and who doesn't shove an iPad with prices in my face while never explaining what they are. At my first visit with my one year old cat the vet said she needed her teeth cleaned !! Estimate over $1,800! I then had a sick visit with another vet for who said " she will probably start losing her teeth in a few years" Again, recommends teeth cleaning. . I took her to another vet, he held her mouth open for me to see her perfect teeth and gums!!! He said she absolutely DID NOT need her teeth cleaned! I paid $65 for an exam and off we went ! Not to be confused with the 3 star rating, I really love the staff and the vets there, there are very kind and helpful with my two dogs and are very good with my older dog who isn't very friendly, but loves the staff. I'm writing this because my experience with a new employee they have recently hired was very unprofessional with me yesterday and it bothers me. I called for a specific medication for my older dog which was for her thyroid, I have never had an issue when ordering it, but for some reason this new employee never confirmed the medication on the phone like usual and I thought that was odd. I go to pick up the meds and get all the way home and it wasn't what I asked for. I call back and she gets extremely rude with me on the phone." In the notes it's states that's what you asked for' no ma'am it was not I asked for Levothyroxine not Envothorix. Which is an antibiotic. I explained on the phone that I have never had a issue before why now. I think she needs more customer training cause her attitude with me was unexpected in y book. Sorely disappointed with the lack of service received and the unbelievably high pricing. For a routine visit with just Bordatella and blood draw for heartworm cost a staggering $225.00. The vet asked a few questions, moved my dog's lips up and that was end of exam. Didn't take his temp, didn't look in the ears, eyes or mouth. Never spoke about a fecal exam. Was told they just don't do that anymore! When I mentioned that I thought they were expensive the vet then told me about their wellness program. What a joke, $50.00 processing fee and the $58.99 a month which includes just the office visits and 1 vaccine a year. So instead of paying $225.00 it would then cost me almost $800.00. And that's supposed to be a bargain?!? Also, every other vet I've utilized has always administered any injections and the Bordatella in my presence. Not here, they claim they gave it to him in the back room. Sorry but I can't say that I trust them. Long story short, immediately looking for a new vet and would dissuade anyone from utilizing VCA Dover! read more

Overall they cared for two dogs for us and we were satisfied with Dr. Menadr , she is very easy going and greag with animals. Our Dog had an incision after Spaying that wouldn't heal. The vet who spayed her said it was fine, but Dr, Menard found a Suture sticking through the incision and in 5 minutes it was snipped away. Thank You Dr. Menard.! read more

We use this place to try them out, because the first visit was free. They also included one month of heartworm and flea and tick prevention at no cost. However, the vet that we saw was quite rude and very unpleasant. I told him that I have done quite a bit of research on our new dog, as I had never had this breed before (Airedale Terrier). The breeder had told us never to give him a Bordetella shot due to adverse reaction's. She also mentioned that we should never have more than one vaccine at a time. I mention this to the vet who thought I was crazy. He gave our dog the intranasal Bordetella vaccine, but was very pushy about the fact that I needed to come back for the dog to have two additional doses, and both as injections. I also asked him about titers. In my research, I found out that that is nearly impossible to do in Delaware with rabies, but that we could do it for other vaccines. He looked at me as if I had three heads and told me that I was crazy. And that it would cost way more than ever having the vaccine done. Later that night, I was reading up on the breed and found that the reason the breeder told me never to give this dog and injectable Bordetella shot, is because they have had adverse reaction's and some have died. While I understand that the vet has had much more schooling in general to animals then I have had, I explained to him that I had read extensively about this breed. And he seemed to have no knowledge about them at all. This was very surprising to me, considering that I had to wait 45 minutes past the appointment time, and that I had made the appointment about a week in advance. Needless to say, after his snide comments and disrespectful attitude, we will never go back. Very, very disappointed. I have never had the shoe like that with a vet in the 20+ years of owning dogs. (and the only reason we were trying a new that, is because we only recently moved to this area from out of state.) asked for other recommendations and will be trying a different bed down the road for the next trip read more

So, I just went in to get annual shots for my dog. The service desk folks were absolutely wonderful and the wait was fine. It was not until I went in the back to see the vet did our experience really change. Firstly, we have a show dog. We have experience with dogs, as well as work with a breeder mentor. This isn't our first rodeo if you get my drift. Upon noticing our girl was intact, the vet proceeded to lecture me about how our dog needs to get spayed. I informed them that we do not intend to breed or spay our dog until we get her hips checked. The moment I said that, he was very rude and was a bit rough with her. I've been to vets before who have a better way with dogs and for what ever reason this vet didn't like us or seemed as if he didn't like dogs. It was odd. When he was drawing blood, my girl moved despite being restrained by the tech and fed by myself. I can understand the frustrations of working with animals, and how hard it is to get them to hold still, but he sort of acted rude about it. He sort of "huffed" and acted impatient towards us. After shifting again, he drew from the other leg and all was well. It was an odd way of taking a blood sample, but I didn't want to make waves at the moment. Again, I think the admin staff and the tech were wonderful, but the vet really gave me a bad impression of VCA. Will consider going somewhere else solely due to this experience as well as the prices. read more

The Vets here are great but the office is a nightmare. They way over charge for what they do and are very corporate run. Defiantly no personal service here. I tried them for a year with my older dog and puppy. Paid to have a chip put in for the puppy and they never actually did it. We moved here from Pennsylvania about a year ago. Desiree was a rescue from the SPCA in Philadelphia. We noticed a lump on her memory gland. I took her to see Dr Brown he was great with her. He suggested we move it and have it sent to pathology to make sure that it wasn't cancerous. She had it removed and it came back benign thank goodness. Dr Brown and his staff treated Desiree like she was one of their own. I would highly recommend Dr Brown and his team at VCA Dover animal hospital. read more

When I first moved here, I took my cat here. The prices were higher than average but it was always easy to book an appt and the receptionists are friendly. When I took in a stray cat, I asked about discounted rates for spay of a stray. They said since it's a stray, they could omit a specific step that they would typically do for non-strays, which would save a little bit, but there was no discount available. Bill came to around $200. I recently found out after adopting a dog from a shelter that many shelters and Petco, will do spay/neuter for non-shelter dogs/cats for around $40 and vaccinations at much lower rates than VCA. They also won't charge you an additional fee for the office visits to get vaccines/spay/neuter. I understand VCA is a for profit business, but had the receptionist mentioned the shelter option, I would have no problem continuing to keep them as my primary vet. I feel like I can't trust them anymore so will be looking for another vet for my 3 pets. read more

I went here for the first time the other day. They were great with my dog and I. However, the older woman at the front desk was walking up the aisle and there was a dog barking in a room (like dogs do) and the woman said "Stop barking or I will shut the lights off on you!!" (please keep in mind, she was not saying this in a joking matter, she sounded very nasty). This did NOT sit with me well. First I would like to say that I take care of my pets medically they are up to date on all vaccinations and care. After leaving this office I felt overwhelmed with the additional comments that were made that I should be doing more, they tried to get me to buy things that were not needed at the time of service and unrelated to the appointment indication. We have a rambunctious black lab named Duke. Duke jumped out of the truck and we had to take him to the VCA hospital. The staff there is AWESOME! Dr. Brown took great care of our dog. After an xray, it was determined Duke fractured his femur and would need a pin. Anything Duke would need in this emergency was there at the VCA in Dover. Not only the medical demands to fix his leg, but the comfort he recieved from Dr. BRown, Trista, Lisa and all the staff, was treatment also. Duke was in a cast and on no activity for awhile, then he had the pin removal surgery and xray. I am sooooo grateful for Dr. BRown and VCA for helping our Duke. He is still as rambunctious as ever and is loved by our young son and us as part of our family. Duke moves around just fine thanks to you guys! Most dogs arn't excited to go to the vet- not Duke, he is happy to see his friends at the VCA who took GREAT care of him! 5 STARS! Your all the BEST! read more

My wife and I were very impressed with the overall treatment received from VCA. The doctors have a great bedside manner with pets and owners. When we explained our financial situation, they made our pet's treatment workable for us. I was concerned they may STRONGLY suggest we take necessary measures but that never happened.
