It's a slightly odd ambience, nicely decorated but kind of in an MFI way.* Unfortunately the canal side of the building has no windows, although it may be you wouldn't be able to see the water anyway due to bushes etc. Food wise there was a great deal of fish on the menu and I had monkfish that was pretty good but probably would have been better with a spicy/garlicky sauce rather than cream. My bf had a steak which I think was fine also. The mash was great because it was basically boiled new potatoes mashed with onion, a bit different and good taste and texture. We had ample vegetables on the side (included in the price of the main), including a very cheesy broccoli which I ate all myself. Given that it's not actually that cheap, it's good the portions were large. Really though once you cross £10 for a main you need to be providing real quality and refinement, in my view. Overall the menu maybe could do with a bit of a revamp, as it felt a bit 90s. Although on the other hand that is quite charming! Ham and chips probably appeal more to the silver-haired clientele, for example, but it might be nice to have something more interesting/that you couldn't make at home. Also some of the descriptions need more detail as you can't tell what you might be getting. Drinks wise the rose I had was not very nice, potentially the bottle had been open for a while. Also the ale, although nice that it's on tap, also tasted a bit stale, probably because it is not getting poured enough (which isn't really the restaurant's fault if not many people are ordering, but good to bear in mind before you do). The desserts I thought were excellent, both the apple crumble and (even more so) the chocolate brownie were memorably delicious. Save room! Service was very pleasant and efficient. The Irish Association Social Club is a large building in the centre of Chorlton and the clue is in the name. This is the place where the older Irish community in Manchester's suburbs congregates and downstairs is a large bar and seated area. I am more familiar with the function room upstairs though which is a large space that has recently undergone a makeover. Now it is light and bright with a small stage and a bar. Drinks prices are such a revelation here for those used to pricey city centre watering holes. In the latter, there is little change out of £10 for only one drink, but in the Irish Association club for the same money I can down three rum and cokes and still have a couple pounds to line my pockets with. This is wondeful! I would encourage any one who is looking for a great venue to host a bash for 100 people or so, to book here. Hire charges are minimal, staff are friendly and alcohol is inexpensive.

Absolutely awful. I…read morewent with my friends the other night and my friend brought her own juice because they don't normally have the juice she likes in clubs. She payed for vodka and mixed the drink herself. The bouncers then came in and asked her if she had brought any alcohol to which she replied 'no'. They then dragged her to the exit by her hair and put her in a head lock and were extremely aggressive. We tried to apologise and gave them the juice but they just got more and more aggressive. Absolutely terrible night and a complete waste of money. Do not recommend.

The edge has historic associations with, somewhat incongruously, mining and wizardry, but these days it's a great place to go for a walk with either the kids, the dog, visitors or even a solitary stroll. There are car parks at both the foot of the edge and the top (the latter is the main one) giving the option of a quick trip to the edge itself and back or a longer, more demanding up-and-down walk.
