Consumer and customers beware of this establishment. A horrid experience for me, that cost my pocket book, immensely, $700.00 dollars to be exact. Took my car to get the front and rear brakes replaced, right before Thanksgiving. Approximately 7 weeks after getting a full brake job, front and rear. My front brakes are incurring a grinding sound. Not only was I informed by the person working the front desk, that the service would include the brake fluid being flushed and filled. I took my car to my dealership who services my vehicle. They informed that the oil was filthy. Now the brakes are making a grinding sound. Approximately a week later, Before the grinding sound, I called and spoke to Brake Masters person who answered the phone. He was not friendly and rude. It's obvious to me, the brake fluid was never flushed or replaced with new brake fluid. As a decorated combat and disabled veteran. I would not recommend this repair shop to any veterans out there, or anyone who is a perspective customer, for that matter. Customers beware of this establishment. Rudeness and not doing what they say, along with a horrible brake repair, is bush league, and should not be tolerated. I will never, ever again. Give this business my hard earned money! read more

Solid guys. Passing through on a road trip and they got us in to take care of us for brake work. Did good work and were helpful. Only one star deducted as their prices on parts were a little high - they bought their parts from CarQuest (I saw them delivered) and they were double what CarQuest charges the public. I know they need to make money too - so some mark-up is expected. They did reduce their price a little when I brought it up, and since I had no ability to shop around and find other places since I was traveling through I was not able to haggle much. But it still worked out that for the parts they charged me about 30% markup. Labor was very competitive and the work seems to have been good. read more

I am from out of town and needed some work done on my brakes that came to my attention on my drive to Albuquerque. I was told they would inspect the brakes but all they did was tell me the rear brakes were 95% worn out and the rotors were glazed. I didn't believe that was the issue so I decided check myself. The brakes were about 50% worn and there was only extremely minimal glazing on the rotors. They lied to me and I am glad I didn't except their $350 bid. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Looking for honest mechanics? My temperature gauge maxed out and I was assuming the worst (thermostat, water pump, etc). Wasn't sure this was a Brake Masters issue but figured it was close by and worth a try. When I go to pick it up, turns out it was just a loose clamp that needed tightening. They could've told me they had to replace the hose, the clamps, put in gallons of antifreeze, a thermostat . . . none of that. Tightened the clamp and sent me on my way no charge. I had been looking around for a reasonable place to have my brakes replaced. The reviews at this Brake Masters were favorable and decided to have both front and rear brakes replaced. I set up an appointment and had the work performed. They informed me the front rotors could not be machined and quoted me a price for new ones. I got the vehicle back in the time quoted and everything seemed ok. There was some initial squealing and I attributed to new pads and rotors. But the noise persisted and I took the vehicle back. They replaced the left front rotor and both front sets of pads no questions asked. Yes, warranty was in play and initially only the left brake rotor was to be replaced. But they took the extra step and replaced both sets of front brake pads too. I will be back if I need any further service. Customer service was first rate. read more

I called 2 weeks prior to going tho the ship to ask if they take reservations and was told "yes", they took reservations and walk-ins. I made a reservation for 9 this morning. I dropped the car off this morning at our allotted time and it sat in their parking lot for 2 hours and never touched. When I complained about having a reservation and being told it would take about an hour, I was told that it would take an hour after they started working on it and Saturdays were very busy. What's the point in offering reservations when they are automatically thrown in to the walk-in category??? read more

I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer. I bought it in Taos in 1988 brand new. It now has over 403,000 miles on it's 4.0L, 6 cylinder engine (never overhauled and original automatic transmission). So, my Jeep and I have been around and we know the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to auto repair shops! I've been ripped off BIG TIME by shops in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque over the years! It took me several lessons to realize that Brake Masters at 3616 State Hwy 528 NW are the most honest and skillful mechanics/business that I have experienced in NM since 1988! Hey, that's saying a lot, right? Well, I've actually tested my theory without Break Masters knowledge. Here are some examples: I took my Jeep to two shops to have my breaks evaluated. Both places told me that I need front and rear breaks "immediately" and that the 4 wheel drive needed some repair (the light didn't go on when I put it in 4 wheel drive). The third shop I went to was Break Masters for evaluation of breaks. They told me that the rear breaks were good and did not require service; but, the front breaks needed to be serviced. They replaced a fuse for my dash light. They could have lied and charged me for front and rear breaks but they didn't. The work was done while I waited and I immediately noticed the difference in the Jeep's performance. Another example: Two weeks ago I noticed that the windshield washer reservoir wasn't holding the fluid; pour washer fluid in and it immediately went onto the floor. A week after I noticed this I found a broken rubber ring on the floor in my garage. I surmised that it was a seal on the reservoir. First I took the problem to Firestone in Rio Rancho. They told me that I needed a new reservoir because it was old and "probably cracked" and that I'd have to buy the entire kit with motor etc. They also said that it would be difficult to find those parts because the Jeep is "so old". After that I took the problem to Christian Brothers on Southern Blvd. across from Firestone and told them about the same problem: reservoir does not hold the washer fluid. They evaluated the situation in an hour and came up with an estimated charge of $373.26! ($83.69 for a new reservoir; $128.64 for 2 washer pumps; $110 for labor; $25.11 for shop supplies; $25.84 NM sales tax). And, I was told that in all the U.S. only two pumps were left that fit my particular Jeep so that I should get them immediately. I told him that I could get the parts online at Rock Auto Parts for 75% cheaper. Next, I went to Break Masters and told them the same: windshield washer reservoir doesn't hold the fluid. They looked at the problem and came out of the shop into the waiting room to show me the reservoir and parts. The reservoir was intact without cracks or leaks; the seal around the pump had broken and fallen off and the pump fell down and broke. Within an hour Break Masters ordered a new pump ($30), installed it and the old reservoir. Labor charge was $62.30; disposal fee was $3.50; $4.79 for shop supplies; $7.23 for NM sales tax. My advice to anyone who does not know which auto shop to use is to take the time (if you can) to get at least 3 evaluations and cost estimates. During that time do your evaluations of them: are they courteous? Do they show you the broken parts? Are they prompt and efficient? Do you think that they are honest or do you get a bad feeling when dealing with them? Find out their labor charge per hour. If you think you know what is wrong with your vehicle, don't tell them; just tell them the problem you are having and let them give you a diagnosis and have the mechanic show you why they came up with that diagnosis. Be patient but be alert to scams! read more

Ohh, I think not. I visited once of these places 8 years ago in Arizona and vowed to never go back and now I remember why. I was leaving town and in a hurry so I thought. Brake Masters, Ill just have them do my brake's. I went in and told them my front brake's were pulsing on my F 1-50. They put it up on the rack and do the old "can you come out and let us show you something" They said the rear brake's only had 15% left and needed to be replaced. They then show me the front brake's rotors and say they need to be turned and there was gong to be an extra charge. I ask ball park how much, he says for the entire thing? I say yes. He responds $350.00 to $400.00. I ask why so much? He says well we have to use a press to take the rotors off and it will take 1 1/2 hour to turn them. I tell him I changed the rotors last summer and I did it on my carport deck and it does not take a press to remove the rotors. Here is where the back peddling began. After a bit of back and forth with him straight out lying to me on several points I tell him to do just the back brakes and ill deal with the front later. I later go out to the rack and notice the calipers are flipped on the right side of the front. I ask the worker guy to flip them back and he does this for me. "My bad for kinking the hose when I put them back on last summer, this was causing the pulsing not the rotors being bad." But like I said being honest is not really these guys MO. I go to pay and the manager fibber dude and he says $185.00 I say 79.00 brake job and 39.00 oil change does not add up to $185.00. He says well we have shop fees and I ask him to show me the bill on paper not his computer. He prints it out and charged me $39.00 to change the fluid in the brake lines. I did not authorize this I tell him nor was I even asked about it. He sheepishly looks at me and says oh your charge is $139.00. I hand him my CC and pay. I'm out of there never to return. I did call the regional manager in Tucson Arizona but never received a return call. I drove 1500 miles in the past 6 days and guess what? The pulsing in my front brakes is no more, and it did not cost me $400.00. I will never go back and if anyone asks me I will tell them to never go back to these guys in any state or location. The counter guys must be on the take for bigger bonuses based on how many services they sell you and tell you, you need to have, even if you don't need them. Buyer be very aware!!!!! read more
