Well, where do i start? I took my car for a service/Mot to the Luton branch of Brake and Service World (Thmc) last week (oct 2011). My car is a regularly serviced and maintained car and i went to B&SW to take advantage of the offers that they had at that time (Main service + MOT for £139). Left my car with them overnight as i had to take a bus early morning to work. I called them (Dharam)at 9am next morning only to find out that one of my rear tyre has mysteriously gone flat. I was told straightaway that i needed to replace it (£53 for a new one that you can get for £30 elsewhere). I told them that it might be low in pressure and ask them to continue after topping it up. There was no communication from them until about 3pm and hence i called them. Suddenly they came up with a huge list of things that need to be done on my car. Seems like anything that wears needs replacing. Front and rear brake shoes, front and rear brake discs, both rear tyres, brake fluid, wiper blades, cam belt, traction, the front lights needs adjustment, tail lamp needs replacing as it is a bit washed out. The estimate ran into hundreds of pounds (which i dont have). Funny that the car had just come out of the body shop after a minor accident. They had checked almost all of these before releasing the car. The only suggestion from them was for the front brakes (they still had life it was only an advise). I then asked Dharam for an estimate for jobs to be done to get the car pass its MOT. He came up with a big list again including brakes, brake discs, tyres lights etc. and the quote was just under £500. I then asked him to forget the MOT and just get the service done stating that i didnt have the money to do the rest. He tried to barter with me but i made it clear that i didnt want to get anything else done. At that time he told me that the service price will then be £167. When asked about the initial quote of £139 he replied that the £167 was including VAT (139+Vat =167). I confronted him with the price stated their website (which states the price as £139 which includes labour, oil and vat ). There was a short silence and after many seconds he said that the Internet offer is inclusive of VAT but their newspaper offer is exclusive of VAT (The advert is identical at both places) and accepted to receive £139. When i received the car in the evening, one of the rear tyres was almost flat and i was told that it was a puncture. They didnt even bother to topup the air in that tyre. I took it to a nearby petrol station and got it up to the correct pressure. It has been a week now and there seems to be no problem with the tyre. I took my car to an independent MOT station a week later and guess what the car passed it with flying colours. I was notifed about the front brake pads as a verbal advise and thats it. Nothing about brake discks, front lights, rear lights, wipers (£28 at B&SW). Use this garage at your own risk and please please dont get attracted by their cheap prices. It will end up costing you a lot lot more at the end. I would never go even 100 paces near this garage anymore and not recommend it even to my worst enemy. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! NOT EVEN AS A LAST RESORT!!! I had to call the AA out to fix my car as the back wheel has ceased. One of the shoes had come loose and was preventing the wheel from moving the AA engineer removed the shoe and suggested that i get it replaced immediately. He inspected the rest of brake system and said only the shoes needed replacing. I took my car to Brake and Service world Luton the next day as my local garage is closed on Saturdays for a new set of shoes. I left the car with them and they called me back saying that it would cost £650 to do all the work. I was in absolute shock and told them that there is no way im going to pay that and that i would take it to my local garage during the week. The guy then said there will be a charge of £60 labour charge if i was to come and collect the car now and said he could lower the price a bit.They then explained to me that both the cylinders needed replacing, both the brake drums and both the wheel bearings. I told them that there is no way all that needs doing as it was already inspected by the AA a day before. So i told them just to replace the shoes and i will get my local garage to take a look at it. I get a call back about 1 hour later. We cant replace the shoes as the wheel drum is ceased and wont remove from the car. We have tried hammering it off but with no luck. We will try to heat it up and remove it but this might damage the drum. I give them the go ahead as i really need my car to be fixed asap as i rely on it to get to work in the week. They call me back and shock horror, you need a new drum as it is now in pieces and a new bearing and a new cyclinder for that wheel. its going to cost you £450. And we cant get the parts for a day or so as the wrong ones have been ordered in. I have the invoice on my desk now and they charged me £119.95 including vat for a single brakedrum! You can buy them for £30. They charged me £60 for a brake cylinder! You can buy then for £17. They charged me £70 for a rear wheel bearing kit! You can get them for £20. They also charged me £70 for a brake press test??? DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! THEY ARE CON ARTISTS! THEY WILL GIVE YOU A LOW PRICE AT THE START BUT THEY WILL MAKE SURE THEY FIND THINGS TO BUMP THE PRICE UP! read more

I wish i had read these reviews before i took my car there ! DO NOT GO THERE Money Thieves! Comboys! I could tell i needed a new clutch, got it booked in and they done the job. On my way home from the garage, my exhaust fell off numerous bolts had been removed and not put back in which had been there before. Finally got the car home and i had an oil leak! Rang the Luton branch which was where i got it done and explained the sitaution, they told me it was nothing to do with them and that i must of had a leak before! I certainly did not have a leak before! The clutch was also making a very strange noise. After numerous phonecalls to them they agreed to let me bring it back and they would take a look at it, they ended up putting another new clutch in, bearing in mind they had only just fitted one the day before! They were very rude and were not helpful in any way and seemed to be mocking me. Now not even a year on, my car has just broken down on me, and surprise surpise the bearing has gone in the clutch. When ringing the branch they explained there was nothing they could do until there manager comes back from holiday which is ridiculous seeing as i now have no way to travel ! im now going to a different garage and having to pay out another large sum because Brake and Service World are cowboys! I have been taking my personal cars and business cars to Brake and Service world for the past ten years. I am disappointed to read the above reviews who have been disappointed as this is NOT a true reflection of the company and indeed the people that work there. Dharum the manager and his friendly team are always willing to go above and beyond with their customer service to try and give the best deal to the customer. Don't forget they are running a business and not a charity. I have always been quoted HONEST and COMPETITIVE local rates and have always been happy with the work that they have carried out, both through MOT S ,services and any additional work. Dharum will always call you and and inform you of any additional work that may need to be carried out and not just go ahead and do the work and sting you with a bill at the end. I all ways recommend brake and service world to my family and friends and i have never had any of them come back disappointed or complain. The main reason i have gone back yr after yr and carrying on using this business is down to the freindly and honest and personal service when i go there which is hard to come by these days! Took my car in for pre-arranged work (suspension, clutch, electrical problem). Dharam was on the phone within a few hours to let me know that the springs did not need changing after all (refreshingly honest!!). A clutch kit would not rectify the problem, so a flywheel was needed. So I agreed to that being replaced also. While working on the clutch, a leak in the cooling system was detected (I had been topping the coolant up for a month or so before this). I agreed to the car staying with them until the Monday when the part could be sourced from main dealer. Collected the car after this work was done. Big improvements to the car!!!! Had to take the car back a while later due to a bad smell coming in to the car through the vents. Was told that it is a breather hose which requires replacing. Have agreed to take the car back for this to be fitted (Dharam said that this may have been damaged while the other work was being done, so naturally insisted that this would be replaced with no charge. Will be taking the car back on Saturday for this to be fitted.Oh and hopefully they will have a look at the electrics too!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will post again after Saturday read more

I had my car serviced by Mini until my tlc package ran out, in 2011 I took my car to be serviced by Brake & Service Luton (I also used them couple of times for MOT). The guy at the front desk called to say I needed new spark plugs and that they can do it at a discounted price for platinum plugs (along the lines they were good quality ones)Feeling underpressure I agreed, bearing in mind Mini had new spark plugs put in the year before having only done 11,000 miles. I had my suspicion much later on that I didn't need new spark plugs that day. Today May 2013 I took my car to Mini as there are problems, I asked could it be the spark plugs? and they replied " your spark plugs are not due to changed for another 40,000 miles". I can't obviously accuse B & S whether they changed it (when it wasnt necessary), or they said they changed it when they didn't. I will leave it up to you to decide the honesty of this garage. I certainly haven't been back since for a service or MOT. Perhaps they thought they can pull a fast one due to I am a female driver?! I certainly won't give them a second chance of that. read more

I went into Brake and Service world this morning as I was hearing some funny noise from my car. As I approached the garage I saw an older man there (think he was the owner/new manager) he was abusing his staff F at them, shouting at them. He was speaking to them like they were dirt. I was horrified and disgusted. The old man didn't even realize I was standing near by,neither did any of the other staff. It was unbelievable how he was treating his staff. I have been to Brake and Service world a few times and I have had such good service from them, they are always so helpful. It was sad to see how they were been spoken too. Message to the older man It is disgusting and disgraceful how you treat your staff. You need to appreciate your staff for the hard work they do. Those boys in there work very hard and DO NOT at all deserve to be spoken to in that way. You need to learn some manners!!!! My clutch desperately needed changing a couple of weeks ago. I called up several garages and brake and service world in luton gave the best quote. A friend of mine uses them regularly and insisted I give them a go. I turned up and was greeted by the manager. He was happy to answer all of my questions and was very helpful. The work was completed within a few hours. My old clutch was shown to me and they explained why it needed replacing, I was very impressed. I will certainly be using this garage again. The management was extremely helpful and the staff in the workshop seemed very experienced and knowledgeable. I left there a very satisfied customer! read more

Just got my car back from Brake and service world in Chaul end Luton Beds their reception team were extremely helpful in explaining the problems with my car and detailed in simple to understand language what repairs were needed. They completed the repairs quickly and kept me informed throughout the whole process. I am very happy with the cost and would recommend this garage for MOT and general vehicle repairs. Very good customer service, everyone courteous and friendly throughout. Rescued me when I needed an urgent MOT despite the fact that it was a Sunday and my online booking hadn't come through. The work took a long time due to the bolts on the car being seized up but they didn't give up and finally got me on the road just in time to make a very important appointment.
