I was visiting relatives in TC when the brakes went out on my truck. We needed to head back home to Chicago that day, and I was worried we were going to get in a crash or not make it back. I called this place and asked if there was any way they could look at my brakes that afternoon. To my surprise, they said while their schedule was booked, they wanted us to travel safely so bring it by. I brought the truck in, and "Bob" (the guy I talked to earlier) suggested my wife and I go on over to a nearby diner, have some lunch, and he'd call with an estimate. There were six local jobs ahead of me, but Bob got us in on the next available lift, saying, "These folks have to drive all the way back to Chicago, so let's get them on the road." We were just finishing our lunch when Bob called, and informed me I didn't need new rotors (as I had suggested to him), but just their 'standard rear brake job' - which would run about $214.00, and included top-end ceramic pads, turning the rotors (including the parking brake drum), adjusting the parking brakes, and a 30,000 mile guarantee. I was very surprised that they would be honest enough to not replace the rotors, and very appreciative of their willingness to get it done so quickly. By 4:00 PM we were pulling out of the drive, and on our way back. The brakes work great, and the bill came in exactly as they had estimated. For the price of two tanks of gas, I have brakes with a 30,000 mile guarantee. This place does not operate in good faith. I want to start off with I did try to handle this privately with them. I went in to speak my concern with brake work that had been done and what I was charged for. They took pictures and stated that I would hear from someone on Monday (this was early Friday). I took my 3500 truck in to have a vibration looked at. Told them to inspect the suspension and brakes. They called and told me the front rotors were warped and the rears were glazed. They recommended to replace front and rear pads/rotors. I asked if the calipers were fine, Alexis stated they were fine. This is the first time I spoke with her, I started with Philip the manager. I agreed to have them do the front and rear pads/rotors. First thing the next morning I get another call from Alexis stating that all 4 calipers need to be replaced. I asked what changed since the inspection the previous day where I was told they were fine. She stated that they were all seized. They stated an additional almost $1800 for the calipers only. I declined and stated to just put it back together and I will pick it up early afternoon. Shortly after hanging up I received another call back from Alexis. She stated she was still going to have to charge me for the front and rear pads/rotors since I authorized this the previous day and that the work had already been performed. I acknowledged and was ok with this since I did approve the work. I arrived at the shop at 1:05, early afternoon like I stated. My truck is on the lift with rear and front tires off. I go in to ask for my truck, she stated that I said early afternoon for pick up. 1:05 is early afternoon to me. I asked why there is still old rotors on the back when I was told on the phone that the front and rear pad/rotors were already replaced. Alexis told me that they took the new stuff back off and put the old back on. I inquired about the logic behind this. The manager, Philip stepped over. I said to put it back together and I will pay for the work that had been done. I ended up paying for front pads/rotors. She stated they were having a hard time getting the calipers back on the front since there is new pads. I went to Art's auto and picked up all four calipers to change them out the next morning. When I took the front calipers off, I was shocked to see the lack of work performed. On the invoice I was charged 269.98 for pads/rotors which "includes cleaning and lubrication of brake components." They put brand new pads on, did not replace the shims with the new ones, nor did they clean or lubricant the old existing. They did not clean the slide pins at all. I went in and spoke to Alexis about this. Philip was off that day. I brought the old calipers in to show this lack of work that I was charged for. When I came in, I was polite, asked to speak about my bill and a concern I have to work that was done. I asked to speak in private so the waiting room people would not hear about the kind of work that was done. I was told that I would hear back from either Philip or his boss Dan. I did not hear back from either about my concerns of doing honest, good faith work. I 100% will not trust this place to do work again, nor would I recommend anyone else use them unless it's just putting tires on. I attempted to allow them to make it right and hear my concerns, which they chose not to do either. Disappointed to say the least. I wish this would let me post the pictures of how nasty the shims and slide pins were. read more

You would think after spending over $1400.00 for a break job the fluid would be a concern, but after a phone call I was told to bring it in so they could finish filling the reservoir! Also, the oil change service on Garfield, totally different and not for the better. The check off list that Marsh used was appreciated by me, attention to detail! Never again! Maybe it's just me, but locally owned business that have operated forever and then sell to out of state or big business just seem to go to hell, but what do I know after doing business with them for 50 plus years! read more

My brakes were making a noise. I took the car to Brake and Alignment Center. They called me and said, "It will be a $1000.00 to fix. The car is not safe to drive." I declined the repair. When I got there, the estimate had dropped to $860.95. I took the car to another shop. With the car up in the air and wheels off, he showed me the brakes. They were like new. 90% left on front. 100% on the rear. NO REPAIR NEEDED. How many people have said, "Go ahead and fix it." I will call Lansing. read more

Twice these guys have exceeded my expectations. First time my son's truck broke down a mile from their shop. Limped it into their parking lot on a Sunday night. Called Monday and they got right on it and fixed the issues and pointed out a few other items that were getting bad. Had the truck back in a few days and was surprised that the bill was a lot less that I guessed it to be. Second time. I made an appointment for a front end noise. Dropped it off and they called next day saying that the wheel bearing was bad. They looked up our extended warranty, submitted it for payment and we're approved todo the work. Finished the car the next day. I never would of thought that a wheel bearing would be covered by the extended warranty. But they did and got it covered. Can't say enough about how great their service has been. read more

Our car broke down in the middle of our trip to Mackinac just outside of Traverse City. The team at Brake and Alignment were so wonderful. They took us walking in off the street and diagnosed our troubles right away. They were able to order in parts for our BMW and get it fixed and had us back on the road the next day. I took my vehicle there for a "Quote" on getting the front brakes and CV axles. I called at 9:00am dropped the vehicle off before lunch and was told the complementary shuttle service wasn't available(driver on lunch) so I walked 3 miles. I finally got a call with a price almost 4 hours later. The price was full book hours on both jobs. But in order to change the CVs you have to basically take off the rotors and brakes anyways. So I started to decline the repair but was then told the repairs were already started! I was then told the repair would be done by the end of the day, I told them I'd pick the vehicle up the next day as I couldn't get a ride. I got a ride in at 1:00pm the next day. The repair was not done! I asked for a shuttle ride home, not available again! I doubt I will be using this place again. read more

I feel this business overprices their parts excessively. I priced out some parts at a local car part stores and they sold these parts for A LOT LESS! I went in for an alignment and they told me the control arms and ball joints needed repairing first. When I got another opinion on repairs the other repair shop did not mention that these parts needed repair. I feel as though they lied to me, to make more money and took advantage of me as a woman. read more

Took our truck in for an alignment after having the struts replaced. Picked up the vehicle and it still pulled. They said a slightly worn ball joint may be causing it. Took it back in and they fixed the ball joint and did another alignment. Picked it up and it still pulled. Took it in for a third alignment, they told us they drove it before and after and the problem was fixed. It still pulls. Not really impressed for a place that focuses on front end work and the car pulls and they can not find anything wrong with it. On a positive note, they only charged us for the first alignment, they were prompt, friendly, and more than willing to look at it again and again. They just did not fix the issue and had me do work that probably was not necessary at this time. read more
