There's several ticket windows open to buy tickets from a person or a machine just outside as you arrive. There's a lift down to the platforms for anyone with difficulties or luggage. There's nothing in the form of shops on the station itself, just the usual snack and drink vending machine, though during the day there is a mini vehicle that sells magazine and across the way there is a juice and coffee bar. There's a taxi rank just opposite.

Watch out! This…read morecompany is a scam. I was told at the London Liverpool station that I could tap my contactless card to board the train. The contactless cards opened the gates and we boarded. There were no clearly visible signs on the platform or announcements on the train. Contactless cards are accepted everywhere in London. Nothing was posted to indicate that this would be any different. When we got to the Stansted airport station, we and about 20 other people were physically held unless we paid a fine of £150. We were yelled at and threatened by someone with a credit card machine in hand who claimed to be a police officer. We could not leave, we could not advance, we could not buy the ticket there. I tried to find airport authority but they would not let me talk to anyone else. They claim that this fact is sign posted at the entry station. It is not as I looked for signage. They have laminated copies of "proof" of signage. Others have posted that they went back to check, and the signs are not there!! I was charged £65.70 for 3 tickets and £150 for the fee. Someone tried to buy a ticket online there but they would not take it - you must have it before boarding. Same goes for a ticket that was bought on the train - void. But how are you supposed to know? I saw on TripAdvisor someone advising about how to dispute. You can find the original article there. In accordance with the Railways Regulations, we should not have been charged with a penalty fare. According to 6.(2).(b) of the Part 2 of "The Railways (Penalty Fares) Regulations 2018", train passengers must not be charged a penalty fare if the boarded station cannot satisfy "the requirements for the display of notices specified in regulation 8", where regulation 8 is: 8.--(1) The requirements for the display of notices are as follows. (2) Where any entrance onto a platform at the station is not the entrance to, or situated within, a compulsory ticket area, a notice complying with the requirements of paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 1 ("a standard notice") must be displayed at that entrance. (3) If the station has one or more compulsory ticket areas, a notice complying with the requirements of paragraph 2 of Part 1 of Schedule 1 ("a compulsory ticket area notice") must be displayed at each entrance into a compulsory ticket area. (4) Standard notices and compulsory ticket area notices must also be displayed at sufficient locations around the station so that at least one notice is readily visible to passengers prior to boarding a train at the station, including passengers changing from one train to another train.

It costs about 20GBP and the trip to the last stop (Liverpool Street Station) takes just under an hour. Each time I took the train, it wasn't over crowded with people so I had two seats to myself. On the way back, I tried to plug my phone into the outlet under the seat but it didn't work. Not a big deal. Hold on to your ticket when you get in to the city because I think you usually need to show/beep it on the way out. I'm not too sure because when I arrived, they were holding a gate open because there were too many of us with luggage. You also show your ticket on your way in from the airport and you definitely have to beep it to enter the train from the station in the city. This train may be the most efficient, dependable way to get into the city from the airport, even if it is a bit pricey.

Another station on the National Express line…read more This station has quite a lot of stairs and an unsual layout with the tracks raised about street level. There are lifts located throughout to let you escape. Ticket barriers are in place throughout so keep your ticket from you journey so you can leave and visit the town which is a short walk away. There is a florist located inside here which are very popular and require notice for larger items. It's only half an hour away from London so can get quite busy. It's also the station you would use for V music festival.

There's a side entrance to get straight onto Platform 1 (which is the C2C down to Fenchurch St), with a convenient pick-up/drop-off bit outside. Last time I was there they weren't able to help me with my oyster card, and told me to go to an underground station - which is kind of difficult to do with a broken oyster card! That was a while ago though so hopefully not a problem any more. My grandma once fell down the steps there so be careful.

There are a couple of waiting rooms available and a popular pub which has various deals on and is very lively in the evenings. There is a large car park which overlooks some fields. Currently it is being built on to provide a multi storey parking facility. There is a short stay parking bay closest to the station foot entrance. There is also ample storage for bikes.

Located about a 10 min drive from the…read moreuniversity section of town, it's an 1 hour 10ish minutes commute from London about £40 off peak round trip booked a couple weeks in advance, (prices may be higher or lower based on when you book, and peak vs non-peak transit times). In the station tickets are available for purchase at machines or ticket windows, if you haven't purchased online in advance. There are bathrooms, waiting areas and a small M&S express store inside the station, most of the platforms are covered and there are plenty of signs indicating platform numbers and arriving trains. Generally speaking station looked pretty clean. Outside the station there are bike racks and also temporary standing space for cars waiting for passenger pick up though long term parking I believe is a bit of a walk. Also local buses have stops right down the street (mostly walking towards the left as you exit the station), and they have general routes on posted signs and arrival times (posted live on electric signs). For more details on more local stops and fare amounts (vary by bus line and route), best to do some Google research prior to getting on.

Yes, there is an AMT (two, actually) and a waiting room, there is some parking too. Otherwise, ho-hum. There are staffed ticket booths and a ticket barricade, but not nearly enough departure boards.
