Time Out for Whoopie - Wedding whoopie pie tower! (Photo credit: Melissa Hoberg)

The cake portion is not too sweet, and balanced nicely with the filling. I would highly this local business. They're the read deal. You don't need to go to Maine for great whoopie pies! You can also get them at Cat Pause, at the UVM Davis Center.

I recently hired Time Out for Whoopie to create a whoopie pie tower for my wedding, in lieu of a…read morewedding cake (I don't particularly like cake), and I could not be happier with what I got! People are still raving to me about how amazing the whoopie pies were! We chose 5 different flavors for our tower: pumpkin, Irish cream, red velvet, peanut butter, and maple walnut, so that people could try multiple flavors. We were doing a fall theme, and the different shades of reds and browns fit in perfectly with our theme, and they looked awesome! We even had a giant pumpkin whoopie pie for the top of the tower, which is what we used during our cake cutting, and also what we're freezing to have on our 1 year anniversary. Time Out for Whoopie handled the delivery and setup of the whoopies, and did an amazing job making it look both beautiful and delicious! We had about 2 medium sized whoopie pies per guest, and they were GONE in about a half hour! Have you ever seen a wedding cake get completely eaten before? I know I haven't! I think that speaks volumes as to how delicious these things are! Time out for Whoopie is still a new business, so there is no storefront yet. However, you can place your order online through their website, and they will deliver to the Grand Isle/Burlington area for free! For local orders, you can get any of the flavors listed on the website. Non-local folks, don't worry! You can order your whoopie pies to be delivered right to your door step in just a few days! However, the only flavors available for mail delivery are the cream filled whoopie pies, since the cream cheese and mousse filled whoopies require refrigeration. So, anyone out there looking for a fun, unique, and DELICIOUS alternative to cake for a wedding, birthday party, shower, or even just because, look no further than Time Out for Whoopie! Going with the whoopie pie tower over a wedding cake saved me money, AND people enjoyed it so much more than just a standard cake. I'm betting we'll still be getting compliments years down the road!

Have you heard of the little engine that could? This is the tiny but mighty bakery. I've been…read morevisiting Lake Placid for years, but only discovered this bakery this year, mostly by following its patrons who were perambulating around the Main Street with what looked like amazing little scones. Speaking of said scones, they're fantastic. If you're expecting biscuit-line scones, these might be a bit of a disappointment. These are on the bread-ier side of the pastry spectrum, but no less satisfying. We tried the blueberry almond scone and the raspberry white chocolate, and both were scarfed down within minutes. I also love that these aren't sickly sweet. Paired with a latte (for which I highly, highly recommend getting a pump of the hazelnut syrup), Bluesberry Bakery was responsible for supplying some of the best breakfasts we had during our stay in Lake Placid. City folks ought to temper their expectations. This is a small town bakery on a quaint main street, and inside, space is tight. There isn't any seating space, and if two or more groups of customers come in simultaneously, the rest of the queue has to wait outside the door. But things behind the counter are manned by a small, dedicated crew of folks who keep things moving. As with any bakery that makes things fresh, come as soon as the urges hit; when they're out, they're out. I learned this the hard way when I came late afternoon for a scone and found they were sold out.

They also accept Venmo as payment, which is helpful since I think it is cash only otherwise. I would have liked to see some blueberry based items (like I saw online), but must be seasonal since there were a lot of apple-based options (I visited in November). I must have ordered at least 2 dozen pastries for my friends at the cabin we stayed at for the weekend hike. It cost just under $75 so very reasonable priced and everything it devoured. I got to have the cinnamon roll which of course was delicious. I got to try the apple strudel, and the apples were crisp...as in like biting into a fresh apple. Not too sure how they did that but it was very good!

The only complaint I can think of is if you show up between 11:30am and 12:30pm, there is a good chance the line will be backed out the door. On this particular occasion I made it right around 11:30 am and I only had 4 people in front of me in line. The bakery is run by the same two people day in and day out, Rob and Anna. They can come off a bit standoffish at first but nothing could be further from the truth. Rob spoke to all 4 people ahead of me and even knew some of them by name and things going on in their lives. On this visit I had a cup of Chicken Gumbo and a Turkey Sandwich. The Gumbo was full of sausage and veggies and had a nice flavour to it. The sandwiches however really are the star of the show here as Chuck pointed out. The bread was so fresh it was still warm. And the turkey piled about 3 inches thick. I opted to add cheddar cheese for the bargain price of $0.50 bringing the price to $6 for the soup and sandwich. An unbelievable bargain! Not only would I recommend Riley's bakery but would consider it a necessary stop if you visit Cornwall. You won't be disappointed.
