Faced with the last resort option of a microdiscectomy, I researched the surgery and stumbled upon Dr. McGill's book, The Back Mechanic. After learning about the McGill method, I searched for Master Clinicians and was thrilled to find Dr. Joe locally. When I first visited Dr. Joe, I would describe my pain as 6-7 on a scale of 10 during day time, pain during sleep was excruciating, and normal tasks like tying my shoelaces were difficult. I could barely stand on the train for more than two minutes, and walking for more than ten minutes was impossible. My core strength was nonexistent -- I couldn't do a single glute bridge or even hold a knee-assisted side plank for two seconds. Dr. Joe invested significant time in educating me on proper movement patterns and spine hygiene. He taught me customized core exercises and utilized a variety of techniques like dry needling and Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM), all of which significantly improved my condition. Today, I maintain good spine hygiene, and my pain is mostly gone, rating 0-1 out of 10 during normal activities.. I have no pain during sleep. I can walk for over 45 mins without pain and the standing pain has gone as well. Dr. Joe excels at communicating the root cause of my condition and what it takes for both short term relief and long term recovery. What I appreciate most is that he doesn't sugarcoat the process or set false expectations. He is clear that adopting discipline and good movement patterns is a necessary lifestyle change to prevent future disc issues. The exercises that Dr. Joe customzied for me complemented the treatments very well. The dry needling treatments helped me get better at the core exercies which in turn helped me improve my tolerance for day to day activities. My goal is to be able to go back to swimming and sports. While my daily life is pain free, I am not there yet to be able to go back to those activities. Dr. Joe has provided good advice on not rushing back to things without the required healing and strengthening. He has customized exercises and I am continuing to work with him closely to get ready for recreational sports. Beyond just eliminating my pain, Dr. Joe has equipped me with invaluable knowledge about spine hygiene and proper movement, giving me the tools to manage accidental missteps and bumps along the way. I'm grateful to Dr. Joe for helping me find relief from my miserable pain. A special shout-out to his team member Hannah, who goes above and beyond to ensure I perform every exercise with proper form.

At first I went through the pain medication route, which at the time the medical industry was handing out oxycodone like TicTac's. It seemed to work for a little while, but never got me back on my feet entirely. I'm cursed with the issue of not getting the benefit while still getting all the negative effects of the narcotic. A friend recommended Commons chiropractor center. Before I was injured, I wasn't a believer, I never thought it could help me. In fact, it took me almost 2 months of convincing actually walk into his office. I've been to two other chiropractors prior to that, and they were either too cautious or not strong enough to manipulate what they needed to because my work required a lot of heavy lifting and my muscles were tight . I have to say after the first visit, I noticed a dramatic difference. And it only got better after that. There must be 15 or 20 chiropractors between my home and commons chiropractor center. I tried a could have them until I followed my friend advice. Today I can confidently say I can live quite comfortably with minimal narcotics and I mean virtually nothing. They do not look at their patient's charts. They will test you and use you as a guinea pig. It's play time for them. I was nearly healed thanks to my amazing chiropractor, who always had to undo the damage these so-called "doctors" would do by telling a person with a disc herniation from a car accident their kooky version of what physical therapy is -- like: walking across the gym floor holding a 20 pound dumbell in one hand and a 5 pound dumbell in another, while walking on my heels!! NOTE, I am petite, only a size 4 and not even 120 pounds! Plus, I had an injury! I was in so much pain, their Director of Operations (DoO), said I'd do better in their West Caldwell facility. (I later realized DoO was not concerned about me, but rather pushing the new West Caldwell facility! I was such a fool for listening to this snake oil salesman!) Anyway husband took a day off work to meet with him. And my husband said, "Just because my wife is in great shape, it doesn't mean she's not in pain." He looked my husband right in the eye and promised my husband that I'd be in good hands in West Caldwell. WRONG! I actually was okay until the PT I was working with went on vacation. Before this, I was 5-days straight absolutely pain free! THEN they paired me with a so-called "doctor" who thought it was okay to bend over and do repetitive squats with my butt sticking out holding a 10 pound weight. And I told her, "MY CHIROPRACTOR SAID NO SQUATS!" She did not listen and insisted it was okay. Her sassy remark was, "You carry groceries, don't you?" So rude and foolish! Uh, ma'am, no, my husband carries my groceries. And when I do carry groceries, I don't do squats with them. DUH! Anyway, after this so called "doctor" (who I looked up and is just a mere prenatal Pilates instructor, not at all a doctor) had me in such horrible pain!! I couldn't sleep that night and was crying in my husband's arms for hours. During the night I sent several emails to express my concern to the director of operations who promised me I'd be in good hands. ALSO NOTE, he said that this "doctor" reviewed my case. She reviewed NOTHING! She blindly made me do squats holding a 10 pound weight when I told her NO. THEN she asks me where the disc herniation was. I said, "Didn't you look at my chart?" She admitted she did not look at my chart. Caught in a lie. The DoO assured me that she read my chart. The owner Jack, sends me an email saying that I was the problem and that I'm stressing out their people. LMAO! Oh, dear, I am so sorry that I expressed I was in pain because your people don't know how to listen or how to read people's charts. THEN my husband called to speak with them directly. And in a cowardly manner, NO ONE got on the phone to speak with my husband. Is this how you treat your patients? Unacceptable. YOU ARE A FAILURE! Go on Google and you will see that other people dislike this place too and give bad reviews. It's one month since that pilates instructor got her paws on me and I'm still not feeling as good as I was beforehand. DO NOT GO HERE! These people are inexperienced and not passionate about their work at all. In fact the "doctor" said the reason she was in physical therapy was because she didn't want to go to medical school. She was also telling me about her divorce, which was unprofessional. I'm a patient -- I do not care about your life, honestly. I tell everyone how bad this place is. Other doctors shake their heads when I explain what happened here. One month later I'm still shaking my head. It's truly baffling. I have many friends in Livingston, West Caldwell, and Little Falls and told them to spread the word, not to go to this facility. It's an epic FAIL!
