We happened to visit one of the 'theme nights' which meant that, being Monday, there was a great selection of Chinese food and you can revisit the hot buffet as often as you like for £6.49. (Most, if not all, Brewers Fayre pubs offer special themed meals every day of the week: Monday Chinese; Tuesday Pie Night; Wednesday Texmex; Thursday Curry; Friday Chip Shop; Saturday Chicken Shack; Sunday Carvery) Of course you can also choose different meals from the huge and varied menu and there are 'meal deals' too, like the two main meals for £10 offer (available Monday to Friday, 12 noon until 6.30pm). I had a delicious vegetarian curry that night (my husband went for the Chinese buffet which he said was really excellent), and I have visited Brewers Fayre restaurants in other parts of the UK over the past couple of years and enjoyed many different delicious meals. Its only been recently that I've found some better than others and I was very happy to found that The Fox in Warmley was one of the good ones. The beef is always I good indication how good a carvery is because its the easiest one that become dry. The beef I had was lovely and easy to cut being the best one there. The gammon though is always good and I would think you should always try the three meats they have to offer as you wouldn't get the option at home. What sets The Fox apart is that you have two seperate pubs in one. The Carvery is at the back and the sports/pub section is at front, I really liked that layout.

Some of the drinks can seem a little expensive for that they are and where this place is, the service can be a bit slow and they only seem to have one card machine. They do have an ATM in there but it charges to withdraw cash. It can get busy there especially nearer the weekends, they do a breakfast too but I haven't tried that myself. You can order smaller amounts of sandwiches or salads if you don't fancy a big meal; but the Ploughman's costs more than a carvery which is just mental. They seem to have quite a high staff turn over there, which can mean you have a lot of young staff learning on the job. I ordered some roast potatoes with cheese around christmas time for me and a friend and it took over an hour, yeah Christmas I know but potatoes - potatoes and it was over an hour before it arrived. Now lets get on to the toilet situation, obviously I can only speak for the ladies. If you get a a cubicle with an fixed toilet seat then you get a point, if you manage to find a cubicle where the roll of toilet paper is inside the dispenser you get another point. If you are then able to get your hand underneath the soap dispenser (because it is fixed that low down the wall!) you get another point but only if it actually contains soap. Once you have completed all these tasks you then have the opportunity to put your hands under the hand dryer and stand there for the rest of the night while it breezes lukewarm air over your hands, a person blowing on hot soup could do a better job. Overall I go because all my work mates go there, not out of choice - would much rather get a train into town.

Anyway it all went downhill from there , no horseradish sauce with the wife's beef , a teaspoon of red cabbage , a teaspoon of clotted cream , the mixed berry compote was actually cherry compote, no one came to see if our food was ok , no hand towels or hand dryer in the loo , the people on the next table were told they would have to pay extra for a small jug of gravy as it was " special Sunday gravy " When I left I did tell them what I thought , none of it was personal but the pricing strategy probably explains why there were so many empty tables ? The lady on the till knocked £18 off my bill and apologised but to be honest , we won't be going there again ...... it's not local and situations like this help you choose where or where not to go ..... I have to say again that everything tasted good and looked good but what a shame.

They only take bookings for 6 or more people which is a real pain if you are trying to book in advance. Have turned up there and not been able to get a seat which highlights its popularity. Get there early for a good seat and great food!
