Rippoff newspaper does not cancel when you ask, then sends to collections 2/14/24. Got call from collections to pay for Bradenton Herald. Told them I'd was cancelled in October or November. Said I 'd even had my cc company charge back 15.99 from a billing on 11/18 . On 2/14/24 called Bradenton Herald about collections call. Told them not only about charge $15.99 credit card charge off but they billed me for .88 on same day. Demanded they call collections and withdraw this from collections. Guess I'm late to the bashing party, but do need to emphasize that the subscription service, which once was good for snowbirds, is now terrible. Left last April and suspended delivery until I returned and requested restart, but restarted without request in mid November. After rotted papers piled up, the delivery person stopped delivery, but "autopay" (never authorized) drew monthly off credit card. Called December, Jan and Feb and told 3x by reps in Columbia, S.A. that credit card charge ended, but that papers already paid for would be delivered only until charges exhausted. Got one paper in January and frequently reported missing delivery online. Never heard back. After Feb charges again put through ($51 per month) Contacted credit card issuer to cancel card and appealed the charges for Jan and Feb. Card closed, and both appeals were granted in late March. Just received a"final bill" of $153 for 3 months service dated April 4, 2022. One day after posting above review and forwarding it to the McClatchey Group, customer service rep called, and agreed to resolve complaint by forwarding it to "financial" I am hoping that restitution will be paid, and now trust them enough to raise rating to 2 stars. read more

Terrible. I tried the $1 trial for the digital subscription. When I tried to cancel, had to wait on the phone for 30 min to for a customer service person in India (accent, poor English, couldn't understand them); they try everything to get you to not cancel; at one point the person hung up on me and I had to call back and wait again. It's a total hassle and feels like the scammy days of trying to cancel with a cable company. Also, you can't cancel or really do anything with your account online; everything has to be done by calling the customer service line in India. read more

I then received my bank statement from the month before with a $15.99 charge for the Bradenton Herald on it. When I called to get it removed I should have known when it took five minutes just to get the foreign representative to get my email correct. He then told me he could not remove the charge so I asked for a supervisor. They were all busy, surprise. I have a paid up digital subscription. Its now been three times in five days that the site doesn't recognize my account. Two calls to customer service have temporarily "fixed the issue" only to be later blocked. Today when I contacted customer service for the third time they were closed at 3:30PM!! One star is too high, it should be zero! Customer service is a joke....BEYOND terrible. I am on the 3rd week trying to get my home delivery "delivered". I have called 10x and gone online to report "no delivery" same amount of times. The offshore customer service claims to tell the routing manager, but nothing changes, no delivery. However, Bradenton Herald was very quick to charge my credit card. I get that it's challenging times, but stop lying and start acting like a real business. We buy the local paper to read about local happenings. Under the local section it never talks about anything in Bradenton it's about politics & the AP NEWS. In the sports section they never talk about any of the high school football games or other Sports being played in our community . I think it's important for these kids to be recognized in some sort of way and there's people like us that like to read about their games. We want to know the score of any of the games we have to go see them on a Friday night because the Bradenton Herald won't print anything Honest Kids. Monday night, University of Florida had a late game so we understand that it couldn't make the print for Tuesday's paper, how about today where is it in today's paper. I had a daily subscription when my senior father was living with us. It was pretty inexpensive and they almost always remembered to deliver. However, after cancelling my subscription and moving 2 months ago, I just received a nasty phone call because they goofed and continued to deliver. I would give zero stars if I could. We have been seasonal subscribers of the BH for 12 years. In January I checked on when our subscription would run out. It would be March 26, 2023. I made another payment for 8 more weeks, taking the subscription to 5/31/23. Before heading back home, I called to place our subscription on a vacation hold until we return. I was told that we are no longer able to have a restart date more than 28 days out! Max said I would have to either call every month to add another 28 day hold, or I could do it online. I went online to set up another vacation hold, and find that instead of the credit balance I expected, I owed $13.31! Another call to the BH and was informed that accounts are not actually held for a vacation hold, but that as "per their terms and conditions", $15.99 would be charged monthly for the E-edition! Yet another call requesting an account manager. I asked Alevia to tell me where I would be able to find that caveat in the terms and conditions. She placed me on hold for a bit over 10 minutes; came back to say they will email me the information. When I reiterated to just tell me what section I can find it in, SHE HUNG UP ON ME! What great customer service. It will come as no surprise when the BH is no longer published, and they will deserve it. read more

Visiting my father who is 91 yrs. old and loves to read paper with breakfast in the morning. For all 6 days I've been here no delivery of paper. Called each day and paper was brought out. Then, when I went to cancel, they didn't have my correct address or name! They had it going to some guy in ANOTHER COUNTY! First, worse paper I've ever read. I decided to not renew my subscription when it ran out in May 2021. They keep delivering the paper and sending me bills, showing my subscription had expired in May 2021. Then the phone calls started coming about paying my bill. Kept telling the variety of the people who called i might add from all of the country, that I do not want the paper, stop delivering, i did not renew my subscription. I get at least 2 calls a week bordering on harassment. i received a notice in the mail yesterday about "paying the amount due to prevent future collection attempts." Seriously, threatening me? Don't waste your money. I've read this paper on and off since I could read. A while back I got a terrible shock. I only get the Sunday paper and now they are actually charging $3 for Sunday. What nerve!! I wanted it for the ads/coupons and rarely even get any coupons. As time moves on we get fewer and fewer useful ads/coupons. This started happening before the virus came along. Most of the local section isn't even state news. I guess the "LOCAL" section headline means nothing to them. We don't even get a notice for local events a week ahead of time. I would suggest you keep an eye on your bill. I had a 6 month subscription for $26 and then found they charged me $26 MONTHLY even though I had confirmation of the original 6 month rate. I only get Sat/Sun delivery which would be $8/month for the 2 papers. They asked, "Don't you want it delivered for the convenience of receiving it at your home?". Are you kidding me? Do I want to pay an $18/mo delivery fee? Insane. They'll refund me a small percentage of what they overcharged me or would be willing give me the next month free!! We only get the Sunday paper, so this review is solely based on that. I constantly wish we had known about events mentioned in this paper BEFORE the event happened. I do know that their reporting on events coming up is lacking and more people would participate in these events and others if they were mentioned the week before. Knowing how many people only subscribe to Sundays surely must justify a portion of the local section on what is coming up that week...thru next Sunday; even if it's just a digest of things. Speaking of they local section. It sucks! The amount of local news going on every day in this county compared to what is reported is a crime! Sunday could also be a wrap up of the events reported on last week that were going to happen. Not full stories necessarily, but maybe a good digest. Currently the local section is mostly ads...many being full page, which I don't even look at. The part that isn't ads has more state, national and world news than local. It's frustrating. I wish I could work for their local section just to make it better! So much opportunity is being missed! Heck, rerun some of the articles written for the rest of the week. If M-Sa are anything like Sunday, there is no way I'd subscribe to weekly. The renewal for Sunday subscription is outrageous. They were charging way out of normal for one paper a week for thirteen weeks (like $4.50 -$5.00 each paper). So after they charged my credit card the second time around, I deleted my credit card account and figured after that I would send a check for the 13 weeks of Sunday's which they sent a bill for. It was down to $13.91 (much better). I did this twice for a total of 26 weeks. I put my dates on the check and the last one was to end May 31st and I decided I didn't want anymore. Yesterday (October 9th) I get a letter from a debt collector for a $35 delinquency. They took it upon themselves to charge me for another thirteen weeks for what I'm not sure because I quit receiving Sunday papers before that? I'm miffed because I sent checks just SO they wouldn't continue it past the date I wanted. It must've been for on line which I didn't know I had? Then not to call or send a bill letting me know something before getting this letter from a debt collector!? I'm sorry but the paper isn't worth the current rates. read more

We have been a subscriber to the BH Sunday delivery for several years. Our experience has been consistent delivery of newspaper on a consistent basis followed by a period of time of hit or miss delivery. Our success rate of acquiring a newspaper after notifying BH of a missed delivery is no better than 25%. We have decided to cancel our home delivery and acquire the Sunday newspaper adds and such from our local drugstore. read more
