Best public library I've ever been to! So many offerings like a fully stocked and equipped craft room, kids area separate from the rest of the library, a coffee shop, and even a test kitchen where they have cooking demos during the week! The book selection is extensive and the staff are friendly. It's a huge library with many places to sit, relax, and read a book. The Bozeman Public Library is beautifully-architected building, built in 1981, renovated in 2024. It sits next to a sculpture-filled park, and a flat stone labyrinth-like patio. They have lots of community activities. While we were there, they had set up a 1-2 hour "escape room" adventure for teens. Clever and fun! read more

Top notch public library right here. I'm blown away by how large, modern and comfortable this library is. As an Easterner, I was expecting something a whole lot smaller and a whole lot less up-to-date out here in Montana. Boy, was I wrong and I'm so happy to be wrong! This is a huge building with so much space, so much glass and so many comfortable places to sit. I found a study carrel upstairs where I was able to plug in all of my electronics, connect to their fast and free wifi and get some emails done today. I was here for three or so hours and even managed to sneak in a quiet Zoom call without disturbing my fellow library patrons. Good security presence and a large parking lot. I'm impressed! Oh my goodness, this library is huge. Easily the biggest library that I have ever been to. By the way, a big thank you to the Bozeman library for their policy to allow folks from out of state to purchase a library card. My wife who is a complete junkie when it comes to reading was excited beyond words. At our local libraries, my wife is famous or infamous for having her own shelf reserved. Anyhow back to the Bozeman library. This library is the size of some office buildings with a huge parking lot. So I dropped her off so she could go in, and I ended up having to park way in the back. While I just sat and enjoyed the weather, the people just kept rolling in. No doubt a popular place. My wife came out with some books to read and was about as excited as she can get. Gorgeously designed little public library. Lovely landscaping, and when you walk inside you can get coffee and progress through the rest of the building. Extra bonus? They had a concert on the greens going on one night with a totally funky group, apparently for free. Don't know if that's a regular occurance or not, but how mod. My goal was upstairs to use the computers. They were totally cool with letting an out-of-state resident use their computers. All you need is a picture ID. If you keep your printouts to under five pages, it's free. The librarians were kind and cordial; the lighting superb. The "stacks," former library worker slang for book areas, were neatly organized and their collection was admirable. If I could get a job there, I'd leave where I live! read more

Filled with homeless people. Not a safe environment for your kids to visit. The librarians are scared, or told not to say anything. This could be a beautiful place but the city has decided to turn it into a shelter. FYI. It's twice as bad during the winter. read more

Full disclosure: I love libraries. Old, new, big, small. I love books, and the atmosphere of a library. Bozeman Public Library has great kids' programs, great community outreach, a bookmobile that's accessible if you can make it fit your day, and loan forgiveness (with food bank donations) once(?) a year. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the various private and public spaces throughout are great. I don't mind the homeless people that hang out there in the winter; I'm glad they have somewhere safe to go, and something to do while they're there. The selection could be better but that's literally my only complaint. read more

Wow - what a gorgeous library! Beautiful inside and out (just like you!). Easy parking situation. It is HUGE inside. I have never seen a little coffee shop inside a library before. Nice little local art gallery on the walls (and the pieces are for sale). EXCELLENTLY designed computer/printing station/setup, probably the best I've ever seen in a library. If the inside is anything like the outside, wow! Get in there! I couldn't believe how beautiful a building could be that houses media for the public to use! Wish my local library looked like this! Like N.Y. said a few years ago, it is known around town as the daytime homeless shelter. It made the news again today. I think I made the right choice not taking my children there anymore since last winter. They do have great children programs, and a really cool children's reading area but there's a bunch of people without any other place to go that just sit around and stare at your children. It's extremely uncomfortable to be in there. The last time my children and I were in there there was an overwhelming smell of alcohol and sweat being pumped through the library because people were drying their clothes and shoes on the vents. That was it for me. I'm surprised public health from Bozeman haven't been by to visit because shelters have to follow certain rules and sanitation practices to be safe. I gave it 2 stars because I would love love to be able to bring my children back there someday. read more

Bozeman Public Library is hands down one of the very best public libraries in the U.S. for a town this size. Besides being a beautiful building located next to a wonderful public park and sculpture garden its programming and collection is impressive. Besides books, storytime for infants and the usual array of library services the Bozeman Public Library offers yoga, and supports a Minecraft meetup, sewing classes, a writer's club, a robotics meetup, and public meeting spaces for community groups. Their online services for ordering books is excellent and a subscription to Lynda.com is available for use to library card holders. There are several book sales by the Friends of the Library (check out library's coffee shop for some choice examples) and much of the programming is supported by an active Bozeman Public Library Foundation. This is a town that cares about it's community and the library is a great example of civic pride. read more
