This year is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boynton Beach Fire Department. The first fire house was a two bay station on Boynton Beach Boulevard. In June of 1925 a representative from the American La France Fire Engine Company met with Boynton Beach city officials to sell them a refurbished 1910 engine that had been in an accident in Perry, Florida. The city agreed to buy their first fire truck for the remaining payments owed. After 30 years of service it was finally decommissioned in the 1950's and sold to someone in Miami. Today Boynton Beach has five fire stations and they not only put out fires but they also offer EMS services. The Boynton Beach Fire Department provides community outreach, youth programs, and certification programs.
To commemorate this important milestone in the history of the city, a festival was held today behind City Hall in Centennial Park and Amphitheater. There were history and equipment displays, technical demonstrations, community and city tents, vendors, food trucks, bounce houses, crafts for the kids, live music, and more. I really love getting to see the 1924 fire engine on display. This free family friendly event showcased the great work being done by the Boynton Beach Fire Department. read more
