Top notch magicians. 2001 BMW got got sprayed with rubberized tar based undercoating when the can blew up in the garage. This stuff is nasty and was all over the car and dried up. Don't know how they did it but Art was able to get it all off. Saved me thousands since I figured the car would need to be completely re-painted. I'm used to having a crazy schedule, but sometimes it is really out of control. Take, in point, my August of last year. I was the planner for a wedding at the St. Regis in Laguna Niguel. There were going to be about 250 guests, and the bride's mother, stepmother, father and sister were all involved with the details of the planning. So, I was juggling a few different people, personalities and styles when it came to this wedding. The wedding was also going to be held the weekend before I went to London to help coordinate a wedding there. As if all this wasn't enough, my husband decided it was time to move house. So, I was searching for a new place to live and was attempting to get everything moved before we went to London. Additionally, I was in charge of keeping my father's appraisal office under control and was getting some jobs out for him while he was in Australia. Nice. Needless to say, I had a lot going on. So, when it came time to figure out how we were getting to the airport for our trip to London, I turned to Boyd's. I've used their services a number of times - for weddings, point to point transportation as well as helping me transport a handicapped friend over to my home for Thanksgiving dinner once. I trust them and know they offer a great service. The day we were leaving for London, I got home from work later than I had anticipated. Like a crazy person, I ran around frantically trying to get ready and packed. Boyd's arrived early and the driver was not put out at all when I made him wait . Finally, running late, I leaped into the towncar and urged the driver to go quickly. It was luxurious. I was surrounded by plush, leather seats and a generally quiet environment. I sat back, grabbed a water and focused a moment on breathing before I started returning calls and taking care of business for the wedding in London. That trip to the airport was the moment of sanity that I needed. When I think of it, I recall a momentary oasis of comfort during an otherwise hectic time. It was a little treat that was worth every penny I spent. Oh - and it sure helped make up for the next 10+ hours I spent cramped in the airplane seat, sandwiched between my husband and a chatty stranger! He can be trusted, is skilled in his trade, and loves to exceed your expectations in car care. Don't judge this place by its exterior...it is first class car detailer that has long list of repeat customers in the MB area. I took my car there for the first time after I foolishly used wax more than 6 months old, causing small scratches in the exterior. Art accurately informed me that he could get the scratches out, but at the cost of going into clear coat. A Manhattan Beach gem!! This is now the only place I'll take my baby, even though I live about an hour away. After I noticed how dirty the towels were at the hand-wash place where I was initially taking my brand new Blue Mustang (and the subsequent swirls and faint scratches), I decided to shop around (about a year ago). I was gonna be in the South Bay one day and knew I would have a couple hours to kill, so I searched for a legit place and am so thankful I came across Boyds. Art is the man! He showed me that his towels were clean, took care of the faint scratches, and threw an extra layer of wax on. I haven't been anywhere else since. Also, when I came in for my first appointment, I figured it was a good sign that the other cars were either higher-class than mine or they were Classics. $35 for your not-so-basic hand wash...they spend about an hour and a half on it. And I just got it waxed/detailed for the summer, it's a nice treat every 6 months or so. I've never been disappointed!! read more

I own a black '04 Nissan 350Z. It was parked under a pine tree for two months, and anyone who has a black car knows how prone they are to paint damage. Well, my car was covered in pine needles, tree sap, bird poo, etc. Initially, I just took it to the Hermosa Beach hand wash and got the express wax. This removed the debris, but the clear coat on my hood was visibly damaged and a simple wash/wax was not going to refurbish my immaculate paint. I was referred to Boyds by a local auto body shop. When I arrived, I immediately was met by Art, the Detailing Owner. Art was incredibly knowledgeable and was happy to explain the repair process. I made an appointment to come in the following morning. The repairs were going to take a few hours, but I wasn't able to make arrangements to have anyone pick me up and then re-deliver me later. I live and work locally, but it is not within walking distance of this shop. Art was so kind as to offer me a ride to work and then pick me up when my car was finished. Although, that isn't even my point. When they finished with my car, it looked spectacular. It was shiny and new again. I would like to praise this business and it's owner on 1) REASONABLE PRICES (especially for Manhattan Beach area) 2) GREAT customer service, a typical neighborhood shop and 3) the do AMAZING work. Great place to get your car detailed properly. Art is very passionate and knowledgeable in his line of work and pleasant to deal with. He explained everything about the paint condition of my car and outlined the steps he and the team will take to restore the finish without damaging the paint's coat. I brought in my black '03 BMW 530i which I had trouble correcting the paint. It had soap residue, severe swirl marks, minor scratches and hazing. After Art and his team worked on the car for a day it came out looking fresh again. Just took my Jeep back there after a few years of not being able to clean it so much...and taking it on dirt roads for long trips....it was FILTHY...As usual, Boyd's made it look nearly new and like its worth $5k more than it was before their detailing job! ha....I cannot say enough about their attention to detail, even doing touch up paint for me and teaching me how to do it when I need to in the future, as well educating me about what to do and NOT to do as far as regular car washes and upkeep. First let me start by saying I never leave reviews but this will be my first exception. My husband and I don't have a fancy car but we do have a family van that has been getting my family of 6 around on family vacations and whatnot for over 8 years now. It's been a little neglected as we are always busy working and never seem to have time to get the van detailed. Today we left it to get a detail and we were so impressed when we picked it up! We had stains I thought would never come out, come out! The kids had minor accidents of drinks spilling along with food stains and to see that all cleaned up is amazing. Clearly the other people who gave 5 stars got screwed! I took my 67 Dodge Charger here for a full wash, wax, and detail inside and out. Art said no problem. Once I arrived Art looked over my car and said, "it has water spots". He then told me it would cost extra to remove the water spots because the don't come out. Now, I have washed this car myself enough times to know BS when I hear it. A normal hand wash and hand dry will always leave it spot free. So i said BS to Art. He then grabbed a spray bottle which he admitted was full of plain water, sprayed a spot and wiped it down. Spots still there. DUH ART! You need to wash it first with soap! I told him that his poor demonstration was a cheap trick into making people think he needs to spend their extra $$$ to remove a spot that can come out with soapy water. After I said that he will not touch my car, he got mad and tried to talk down to me and say that my car looks like shit anyway and not worth his time. Now, I don't know about you, but those are some pretty strong words to say to a potential customer. Eh, I suppose he just got mad cause I was smart enough to see through his crap. So sorry if you decide to go here cause you'll overpay for a wash and wax or detail that is done by a money hungry cheap thief. read more

Just got my car washed this week and they did a fantastic job! I had gone to another place locally that did pretty good work - all "hand" wash, but they had been slowly doing less and less well and the last straw was when I specifically asked for no air freshener (as I always do) and they failed to follow that simple instruction. For those that think it's a small matter, let's have YOUR car smell like cherries. I paid extra for leather interior, I want it to smell like leather, not some toxic cherry fart from a can!!! Anyway, the guy I talked to here said they don't put that stuff in ever - thank God. And they did a great job. Even though it was just a wash and no wax, it looked as good or better as when I've had it waxed at other places. AND it was COMPLETELY DRY and done by hand. Most places there are still drips here and there that splash onto other places on the drive home. Plus, I don't think they used air hoses to dry it - the other place did. It cost $30 bucks plus tip, but it's worth it. I just hope they don't get too busy from all the positive reviews. Concerning the one bad review - my car came in with water spots on it because it had rained recently. They did not even mention it, and when it came back, the water spots were gone (as I suspected they would be). Great job guys, if everyone did their job as well as these guys, the world would be a better place! read more
