But I checked my CITI VISA card today, it was 2 beers for $35.75!! Will dispute charge with VISA. Lesson: ALWAYS ask for written receipt at these concession stands. BTW I noticed 8 employees at this stand with nothing to do, but they were partying! Service at many Nationals concessions is dreadful, the exception being Shake Shack. read more

The garlic frites taste like frites with garlic on them. The chicken poppers taste like boring chicken poppers. The taste is in the sauces that they give you. Oh, wait the sauce (singular) they give you. I ordered 2 products that need "dipping" at $9.50 per, and I only get 1 sauce? So, to save $1.75 I have to order my fries with sauce, and then get back in line and order my chicken poppers with my 1 sauce? It isn't even the fact that they're bilking me out of another $1.75 it's the blank stares that I get from the server when I ask why I wouldn't get my 1 sauce per item. That, by the way, was a different blank stare from the one 1 got when I attempted to pay with my e-cash card. 7/21 Nats vs Braves 1:00pm 1 Large Sweet Potato Garlic Frites $9.50 Surprisingly, they were pretty crispy even though sweet potatoes are generally harder to crisp than regular potatoes. Too expensive for what you get. They dropped a couple of my chicken tenders on the ground and when I asked that they be replaced they said they couldn't do that and they come all in one. if you follow my reviews or have ever had a conversation with me about food, you'll likely know that i will never stop loving french fries. so imagine my excitement level skyrocket as i was going to be at nationals park for the opening of box frites:: a concession stand devoted entirely to my beloved taters. box frites boasts that they have "belgian-style frites and dipping sauces" and i gotta say, i was skeptical. i had a horrible experience with garlic fries at nats park last season (as in..the taste of garlic just wouldn't leave my mouth no matter how many times i brushed and rinsed), and i vowed to never look back. but danny meyer insisted on upping the ante and intrigued me with his garlic-parmesan frites. then i heard about the smoked bacon aioli. done and done. first of all, the special garlic-parmesan frites are $9.75 sans dipping sauce. ARE YOU INSANE? though i don't think they were worth $9.75 (just regular, thick-cut spuds..definitely not belgian-style), i respect that it's the novelty of being in a park, and the novelty of quality roasted garlic and parmesan available in said park. now, it's important that you listen. if you want regular "frites" here, that's fine. i might even try regular next time just to check 'em out. but the $2 they charge for the smoked bacon aioli is absolutely worth it. it's decadent, chilled, and sinfully delicious. i also thought it paired well with the garlic and parmesan. other dipping sauces (also $2 each):: chipotle ketchup, ballpark mayo, bleu cheese, and rosemary ranch. these fries could be a meal in itself. they were incredibly filling. and for $10+, they should be. none of that shoestring shit, we're up in the big leagues now.* --- *pun intended. read more

I thought the fries here were really good, but are a little expensive even for Stadium prices. I justified the $10 for large garlic fries and one sauce because I decided I was going to only have fries for dinner (don't judge me). The plus side is not only were the fries good but they were also a pretty generous serving so I wasn't even able to finish the large. Seems like you could probably split the large between 2-3 people if you just wanted fries as a side. The downside was they were expensive and the sauce that I paid $1.75 extra for was in a pretty small container. While I don't enjoy paying almost $2 for an extra sauce it wouldn't bother me if it at least provided me with enough sauce for all my fries. This one did not even come close. read more

When we went to a game the day before the official opening of 2019, they were out of garlic fries and most of their sauces. When we went 2 nights ago and got to the vendor at 8:30, they were out of fries. The only thing they had left were hotdogs. Really? I can get hotdogs anywhere in the park. I walked over to this place for fries. I'm no longer going to this place any more. Don't waste your time. Go to Shake Shack or any other place at the park. read more

Not bad at all, a welcome addition to the Miller Lite scoreboard walk. I opeted for the Garlic Parmesan fries (might as well splurge for the extra $1.50 if you are already buying $8.00 fries). They do come with one dipping option, and we went for the Chipotle ketchup. All in all every strong fries, nice crispness, no real grease and a heaping amount of parmesan. These fries and a beer would certainly constitute a meal, and for the ball game the $16 cumulative price tag really isnt all that steep. Check it out! read more

I give these fries a thumbs up -- they will be appearing on my 'best fries in DC' list. Sure, they're pricey ($8 for a large fry)... but everything in Nationals Stadium is overpriced. Even despite the price, it is a lot of fry. The large certainly filled me up, and the fries pair well with a big beer or shake from the shake shack. To me the concept is the real winner here. I felt in the mood to try the rosemary ranch as the dipping sauce. It was tasty! Next time, I'll try something new...perhaps the chipotle mayo? My friend really enjoyed the bacon aioli. Luckily I read Amanda S.' review prior to heading to the Nats double header on Saturday and I was able to convince a friend to go buy Box Frites, (wait, you thought I would pony up $10 for fries?) Said friend got the chipotle ketchup and the ballpark mayo with her small fry. I mooched, and I'm glad I did. The fries were a thick cut, perfectly fried on the outside, and chewy in the middle. My friend wanted the "real" Belgian experience, so she mixed the ketchup and mayo. Not gunna lie, pretty yum in my free loadin tum. Next time at the park I load up on a couple of DCL's (delicious coors light, of course) and splurge on some really tasty ballpark faire. read more

I thought it was a little bit over rated because the sauce was basically ranch and hot sauce which one can make at home. I usually stop here every time I come to a Nats game and get the garlic frites. The portion is very large and is enough for 2-3 people. I thought they tasted great with ketchup, so I would definitely purchase them again. They are a kinda pricy, but I usually eat a meal before coming to the games anyways so this is fine for just a snack. The fries are cooked to crisp and there's no need for sauce with these badboys - they are delicious on their own. (2.75 Stars) I love a good Nationals game especially when it's $2 Tuesday and when Danny Meyer's restaurant group just opened Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, El Verano Taqueria, and Box Frites in the ballpark. An hour before the first pitch, Shake Shack already boasted a menacingly long line as did Blue Smoke. So, my friend and I hit up Box Frites for some pregame Belgian fries. So, how did Box Frites' first at bat go? I'll list the strikes first. Strike 1: The parmesean-garlic fries do not come with any sauce AND cost more money than the regular fries. My friend and I didn't get it, and we did not get the specialty fries either. We wanted our sauce!!! One sauce came with the regular fries, and we got another for two dollars more (a big charge for just one salad dressing sized sauce, but within stadium standards). Strike 2: Insufficient Belgian french fry power. Let me clarify this ruling. On my last visit to L.A., I experienced a french fry-wakening at Wurstkuche http://www.wurstkucherestaurant.com/Menu.html . Wurstkuche makes Belgian fries with a perfectly salty, crispy exterior and a light and soft as mashed potatoes center. Sadly, Box Frites' frites do not live up to the Wurstkuche paradigm. They're not salty enough and lack the crunchy to soft contrast of other Belgian fries. Not bad fries, but not the best value for the buck. So, what does Box Frites bring to the Nationals Stadium's food team? Tasty sauces, smaller lines than neighboring stands, and a pretty good pregame beer deal. My friend and I sampled their blue cheese and bacon aioli sauces. The blue cheese tasted sufficiently salty and cheesy, but I wish it wanted more chunkiness. However, we agreed that the creamy bacon aioli with sizable bacon chunks stole the show with its rich, bacony goodness. I would buy that sauce on its own, and I guess that I could for a couple of dollars. As for the beer deal, the whole area offers $5 beers up to 7 pm on game nights. Not a super deal, but given the location, I'll take it and some fried food dipped in that bacon aioli.... The food should continue scouting, but they shouldn't trade Box Frites just yet. read more

I think the negative reviews on here are a bit exaggerated. So, I will explain the experience and you can decide whether or not you want to eat fries like these. They are really stiff, not the soggy type. Fried golden, not under fried. The fries are cooked hard the inside is NOT creamy and full, but it's almost as if there is air inside the fry instead of potato. I needed to drink a fair amount with these fries. I got the garlic ones, thinking the flavor should be good and I don't need a sauce. After that, I wished I had some ketchup. Note: I got these fries near the end of the game, so maybe my batch had been sitting out too long. They also were not hot as if they were freshly cooked. I'm not going to have these fries again. I'd rather have boardwalk fries. read more

Slowest line ever, as is typical for Nats park, but these fries are SOLID. I regularly go for the garlic fries, topped with Parmesan and a little parsley. Sometimes the batches are a little crispier, which I prefer. I have yet to be blown away by the sauces, despite my high hopes for Old Bay. The fries here are supposedly specialty fries. I usually just get the garlic fries. The size of the fries is usually enough to feed 2-3 people. They are very salty and garlicky, so after a couple of fries you will get sick of them. The price of fries were $8.50. Definitely overpriced, but that is what you get for purchasing food from a sports event. In addition, if you want sauce (ranch, buffalo, etc.), it costs an extra 50-55 cents. I had the sweet fries and parm peppercorn sauce and they were delicious! This is a really unique snack and prices are reasonable compared to other stadium food. The people behind the counter were very nice and helpful. My only complaint with my visit was that there was a super long line, which I waited in for about 25 minutes. Other nearby lines were moving signifigantly faster so I'm not sure why this one was so painfully long. If you can catch this place with a short line it's a great spot! read more

The garlic-parm fries are OH SO GOOD. And rather filling, too. Much heavier on the parm than on the garlic; you won't be left feeling stinky. They were also hot and crispy out of the fryer, even after being tossed in their unctuous coating. Pretty darn near perfect, if you want to try something different than standard ballpark fare... And don't mind shelling out some major league bucks. I didn't try any of the sauces -- they really aren't needed when your fries are enrobed in garlic and parm! -- but I will say that I didn't find the selection particularly interesting, pretty much the ketchup alternatives you'd reach for at home. read more

Good fries, but could be so much better. The garlic/parm fries are crispy thick cut fries doused with garlic powder and parm (but not fresh grated parm). The gold standard for stadium garlic fries are in San Fran - fresh mashed garlic on crispy fresh fries. Surprising and disappointing that Box Frites forgoes the fresh garlic for powder. These garlic fries, therefore, are substandard. Pass on the garlic fries and go for regular fries with a dip. Or pass altogether and get Ben's Chili Bowl. Mmmmmmmm. read more

Have died and gone to heaven! Well worth the trek up to second level. Three of us were sharing so I opted to get large plain fries and a small garlic and Parmesan. We would have still had fries left over with two small orders. That said, would get the plain fries in the future. The sauces!! We tried the bacon aioli and ranch with rosemary. The bacon aioli won hands down. The ranch with rosemary was good, although some might find the rosemary overpowering. One thing stopped the fifth star, the take away container. It was a cold day and with no cover, or even a bag, to put order into the fries would have been cold by the time one gets to seat. I used another take away as a "lid" and it worked. A simple paper bag to put order in would not only help keep the fries hot but would make carrying them so much easier. The fries are piping hot, crispy, and delicious!
