Edgemont Community Association is an excellent venue for a small to medium sized wedding. If you…read morewant to keep your costs down, and not have to pay the exorbitant prices for drinks etc, Edgemont is an excellent choice. The facility has been recently painted with contemporary colors and looks fresh and bright. They have five large windows that look over a beautiful patio area with a large gazebo, as well as a beautiful view of COP and the mountains. We had our daughter's wedding there this past weekend (August 2nd), and held the ceremony on the patio. It was perfect and the setting is breathtaking. The staff are absolutely amazing and very accommodating. There are round tables and chairs that seat 200 included with rental of the facility. The kitchen is large and can accommodate professional catering. We rented the hall for both Friday evening and all day Saturday and it was very reasonable. Check this place out and visualize all the possibilities you can for your wedding here. BTW, I've also used this facility for a children's Christmas party for a non profit organization and had the same wonderful experience!

The Saturday before last, I passed through the Bridgeland Riverside Community Centre to check out…read morethe Christmas artist's market. When I got there, I was a little bit confused by the architecture of the building and wasn't sure where I was supposed to go in. Finally, I made my way inside to what I believe to be the main floor. There wasn't a ton of space in here, but more than enough room to highlight some great vendors. I browsed some jams, rad terrariums, artwork, etc. I made my way upstairs, but again, the size of the building didn't allow for much capacity and I ended up feeling too close to strangers and left. Even though I once lived in Bridgeland, this is the first time I have visited this centre. Bridgeland is getting to be kind of cool, and I look forward to seeing more rad events like this in the future. Review 32/30 of Yelp's 30 day Challenge 2012

This just doesn't make me want to go back and support this type of conduct. Maybe they just think this is normal which is even more ridiculous . July 19, 2014: This is my second time here (the first time was for a funeral reception where they…read moreserved bread, antipasti and cold cuts) at a wedding reception. The staff were pleasant, efficient, and attentive. The antipasti table was artfully arranged and laden with grissini, bruschetta and crostini, pickled eggplant, prosciutto wrapped melon, assorted cheese and fruit, cold cuts, olives, insalata caprese, sausage and meatballs, spanakopita, and egg rolls. Our starters, cannellonini and gnocchi in a tomato sauce, were pillowy light and not too chewy. The main course was unfortunately a hit and miss. The steak was seared beautifully but needed more seasoning. Although the chicken breast was very juicy, it tasted quite bland. A little bit more jus or gravy would have done it justice. Alas, the broccoli was overcooked and the carrots were still raw. The desserts however, were amazing--Mario's Gelati was served to the delight of the young and old guests. There was such a unique variety of flavours (chocolate hazelnut, cappuccino, and raspberry white chocolate swirl) accompanied with fresh fruit.

It was a wonderful event with a cash bar, coat check and it was just like every cultural centre where the volunteers are the children and members of the cultural association. The evening ended with dancing the night away.

After moving their headquarters from a cavernous hall near Westhills, the Hungarian Cultural…read moreAssociation found this less-huge, but still generous space off Glenmore Tr close to Macleod Tr. It is a hall with hardwood floors that can seat about 200 people for a dinner; they have a large kitchen to prepare those meals, as well as a small rec room and a library with about 2000 titles, all in Hungarian of course. The stage is quite professional, with proper lighting and amplification: the celebrations in April and October for nationalistic purposes give the stage quite a workout, with traditional dances, poem recitals and ponderous speeches. They do offer hall rentals for events; however, I do not know their rates. All in all, it is a great space to hold a function, with the aforementioned kitchen as a huge cost cutter.

Our 4 tables that were turned into 1 big table was the last to be called for our food. Silverware was disgustingly filthy. Napkins were the brown variety you find in public bathrooms. Cranberries were all gone. Buns were all gone. Butter was frozen. Stuffing was all gone. Enough turkey to make a small sandwich. Carrots not fully cooked. Gravy cold. Because of seating and being the very last to get food, we sure felt like outsiders. I am a military veteran, and in the future, I will not support this legion in any way shape or form. One more thing about the buns. They did bring out cold cut in half hot dog buns. Yum yum.
