I attended Bow and Lace recently and unfortunately left feeling uncomfortable because of several comments made during my appointment.
During the consultation, I was told: "You are a couple sizes different from top to bottom; I can see that." I was also asked if I was an "office lady" and, when I said yes, was told that office workers tend to "carry more weight" because they are not active during the day.
When I mentioned that I wear a size 16 in trousers, I was told that the average UK size is 14. After I responded that I was happy with my weight, I was asked whether I had considered visiting bridal shops for "curvier" brides.
I found these comments unnecessary and inappropriate. Rather than feeling supported and excited during what should have been a special experience, I felt judged on my weight and body shape.
I subsequently left a review reflecting my experience. My sister, who attended the appointment with me and witnessed the comments that were made, shared similar concerns.
What has disappointed me most is the response since. Rather than acknowledging the impact these comments had on me, my concerns have been dismissed as a misunderstanding. I do not believe they were misunderstood. The comments were made directly to me, and my review accurately reflects my experience of the appointment.
Every bride deserves to feel comfortable, respected and valued when shopping for a wedding dress. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at Bow and Lace. read more
