I open the door and I am met with a wonderful, welcoming smile. Wrong location? Nope. No appointment and no worry. The government " greeter " working happily with no paycheck started this surprisingly positive experience. Two pretty stale security people were tough to break smile even with a thank. The modern waiting area was almost empty so a no appointment connect was easy thanks to the smiling welcome/greeter. 15 minutes and on my way to an almost pristine interview booth. Another smile and a beautiful Halloween attired SS staff member politely greeted me. Maybe 7 or 8 minutes later... done...factually verified and on my way. What a positive...satisfying...experience.

Conveniently located in the heart of Salt Lake City, across from City Hall, the SS office is located on an upper floor of the large 80s style office building. A security checkpoint is located at the fifth floor office lobby's entrance and after being screened by security upon entering, one is directed to a kiosk where you are prompted to enter which department you need to deal with for your particular need. Once your data entered, a printed ticket is issued. Then, the wait begins, as you scan the digital monitors on the front wall over and over in hope that your number will be posted. Patience is required as it takes quite a while to get called to one of the windows behind which the human SS agents are located. My wait to be for my number to come up took about 1 1/2 hours, in a room that seemed to be about 1/3 full. The time it takes to be called is the real downside of visiting this office. Finally, when I approached the window of the agent who was to assist me, trying to create a human touch to our interaction, I commented about the nice view from her desk area. She agreed, took my paperwork and efficiently copied and entered the information as required. Her efficiency was commendable. I'm sure this is a thankless work environment and many situations are fraught with personal, life impacting issues that aren't easily solved. Luckily for me, everything in my case was straight forward and easily dealt with. After just a few minutes, my tenure in bureaucratic hell was over and I was happily on my way back to reality. Five stars for my agent's help, 1 star for having to wait in the queue for nearly two hours.

The officer that came out sat in the boiling sun busting his butt to help me. I really can't thank him enough for just being willing to try to help me and working so hard to do so. I can't say enough about the compassion and kindness of the officer today.

On 4/27/2024 these guys decided to shut down a car show with live music that brought the community…read moretogether for a fun afternoon. 6 officers arrived stating the music was too loud. The owners of the property tried reasoning with them on the volume which they refused every request. They followed up with pulling over people leaving the car show and even searching one individual's vehicle. These guys should be protecting and serving the community rather than harassing them. Might I mention all of this was at 4pm! My band drove 800 miles+ to play this event and give the people of bountiful a good show. Negative stars, these guys should rethink their "profession"

Also, this building is getting a little dated and instead of smelling like books, it smells like an old lady's closet. Additionally, I take issue with the miniscule size of the windows. Is it night or day? You'll never be able to tell once inside. That being said, I like that is library has a completely different floor for the ankle biters. Put them underground where they belong! I'm glad I don't have to shush them, they can just be kids. The librarians are pretty friendly and helpful. They offer many computers for internet use. They have DVDs, music CDs, current magazines and even a State Parks Pass you can check out. I also like the self check out, makes getting out of there a snap. If you can, sign up for email reminders and online access, it will improve your library life ten-fold! I love supporting the library system and they in turn enjoy my late-fee revenue (albeit a very forgiving grace period at this location.) READ!

Absolutely cannot believe my recent experience. I have had a PO box for 12 years at the Bountiful…read morePost Office and pay $364/year. I received a invoice that the PO box fee needed to be paid. I cut the check, (my first mistake), and mailed it (my second mistake) in a public mailbox 1.5 miles away from the Bountiful Post office. I went to collect my mail on January 15th and it was blocked from receiving any mail. They looked into their computer system and it showed that particular box hasn't been rented since 2014. I showed them my key and explained I have been paying for it for 12 years. The supervisor went back and found the record under my personal name rather than the company name the box was rented to. The supervisor said to me "the payment must have been lost in the mail." Oh by the way, they sent all the mail in the box back to the senders. What a mess.
