This used to be my favorite restaurant. The last two times me and my Fiancee have gone there were flies everywhere, I had to fight to keep 4 flies off of my food the entire time I was eating. and there was 4 dead flies on the window, I'm assuming from people who finally got fed up with it and killed them before so they could eat in peace. The mens restroom has been out of soap the last two times we went (which means male employees aren't washing their hands after using the restroom) and we ordered the cheese curds during happy hour. We pointed out to our server that we couldn't even eat them because the cheese tasted bad and the texture was disgusting (only the cheddar kind) instead of offering to remake them or anything she wound up trying to charge us 12$ for the cheese curds and we had to remind her it's happy hour and they are supposed to be 7$. Will not be going back to the Brainerd location for a long time, if ever again. read more

This place got a lot of slack in their reviews so I thought I would start off by explaining what the Boulder House Tap is after doing some research. The Boulder Tap House has three locations: St. Cloud, Mankato and Baxter, Minnesota and are sports bars that seem to specialize in three things: - Tap beer selection - Burgers - Wings While those sports bar staples are their forte', what they don't specialize in is being unique....which I think is why the haters be hatin'. But in all fairness, from our experience, their specialties were what they excelled at, as advertised. When we went service was quick and we were seated immediately even though it was busy. We ordered the following: - Tap beer - Chipotle dry rub chicken wings (YUP, order these, were very good and not too spicy) - Build your own burger w/ Cheddar and fried egg (husband said it was good) - Half order of Wisconsin cheese curds (skip them, every time restaurants try to do these huge cheese cube things they taste greasy and gross) - House salad (huge) If you're looking to get wings, burger, tap beer, football game, fight on cable...than I view this as a FAR better option than getting ripped off at Buffalo Wild Wings down the street. read more

Reasonably good vibe, although the multiple TVs around the room tend to be distracting. It feels like they can't decide if they want to be a sports bar or a family dining spot. We were there this time on a Saturday night and it was mostly families. The menu is competent, but not particularly innovative. I've usually ordered some variation of their tacos, and they're OK. This time I tried one of their "Grinders", which is a burger that is 60/40 beef and bacon (I could feel my coronary arteries shrieking but went ahead). I must say...the flavor was very good. Unfortunately it was cooked to death so that the "chew" was a chore...tough and dry. No moisture. The waitress, who was very nice but very busy, said that they couldn't cook them less than medium because of the bacon. Hmmm. My wife had a burger too, different burger, and it was the same. Overly dense and overcooked even though she asked for it medium rare. I suspect that these are frozen patties that have suffered some abuse during the prep and pre-freezing stage. A good burger shouldn't be that dense, and when it is, shouldnt be that overcooked. The fries were pretty good, but they need to change their frying oil. The bleu cheese topping was a dollop...ice cream scoop from the topping bin. They almost, but not quite, hit the center of the burger. If was kind of a mess to eat. Had to use a fork, couldn't actually hold it. Overall, it was a pleasant evening, but the ambiance didn't do anything to enhance it, and the burgers were created and prepared without much in the way of attention to detail, so...this time the overall experience was disappointing. Not bad, just disappointing. More attention to detail in the kitchen would be good, and maybe re-think their preparation concepts. read more

Dropped in for some grub with the family. Easy to find, right of of Hwy 371 across of the Holiday Inn. Plenty of parking. The restaurant atmosphere was good and it had a good ambience to it. Family friendly. Bathrooms are clean so are the booths and tables. Menu should have something you'll like. We ordered 50 wings, special cheese fries, cheese curds, patty melt meal, kids hotdog meal, buffalo chicken sandwich meal. The bone in wings are really good, I wished I would've tried more sauces. Skip the asian sauce. The cheese fries topped with bacon is probably one of the best cheese fries I had in a long time. The cheese was still melted and not frozen cold on top of the fries. The patty melt, I hate to say this but it was really good! It is not dripping with grease when you pick it up and eat it. The buffalo chicken sandwich was good add how my son would explain it, he's 12 and ate the whole thing, it was huge. The hotdog kids meal could use some work, maybe a beef hotdog could help. I would definitely recommend folks to stop on by and grab something to eat/drink here. Prices are reasonable, I think our bill was 80 before tip for all that food. This will be my go to place when I'm in the Brainerd/Baxter area. read more

The hubs and I had a good time here. We were in town filling our tanks in Brainerd during a camping trip and were hankering for a late lunch of burgers and brews. The gal at the dive shop recommended Boulder Tap house for lots of good beer and burgers, so off we went. Just a bit of awkwardness upon arriving, it looked like there was supposed to be a hostess to seat us but she was no where to be seen. The bartender saw to us right away though and said to just go ahead and grab a booth, so we did. Our waitress (Jackie) stopped by just a minute later to take drink orders, then to bring us menus when she realized we hadn't been seated by a hostess. The tap menu is pretty impressive considering how far out of the metro we were! And good prices, all of our craft brews were $5.50. The menu is reminiscent of a Chili's or TGIF's in design but was chock full of tasty sounding stuff. There were about 4 different burgers I wanted to try but ended up going with the black and blue, with a side of parm fries. Hubby got the cheddar burger with a fried egg and dill fries on the side, and a 6pc order of the jerk chix wings. Our burgers were solid. My black and blue was LOADED with blue cheese, grilled onions, and a tasty special sauce. Quite pink in the middle, which was delightful. I inhaled that sucker like there was no tomorrow. Both versions of fries were good, only slightly disappointed that the parm on mine didn't melt all over and coat those bad boys. Hubs pounded both his burger and wings. I had a small taste of the wing sauce, it was OK, I'm just not a huge wing person. So 4 beers, 2 burgers, 6 wings later, and the bill was $54, which is great. Some of those beers easily could have been $7 in the cities. Service was spot on the entire time, with that little exception at the start (which solved itself quickly anyway). Ambiance is definitely sports barish, lots of projectors with games on all walls. Definitely a keeper in my book. We are not in this area...ever until last weekend! But anytime we have to fill our tanks in Brainerd, I think we'll be stopping in for more tasty burgers and delicious craft beers! read more

Had to go to Brainerd for a funeral and we stopped in Baxter to get some food. Ambiance: Sports bar atmosphere.. clean... a lot of tv's. Service: We had a great server, i think her name was Nikki. She was very very attentive, cared about service given, fast and new her stuff. Food: Soooo good!!! I wanted chicken wings and other Yelpers spoke well of their wings. I ordered the buffalo DRY RUB and it was delicious. I tried their fries and had a 16oz margarita. Ive been debating on driving 2hrs plus just to order more wings. LOL read more

So on vacation we stopped in for an early dinner. Need less to say we ate here for two more dinners. The food was great very fresh and tasty. The food was nice and hot. Service was good. We were looking for a place to get a carry out curbside pick up lunch given the COVID-19 social distancing rules. We were delighted by the menu. I had an 8 ounce burger cooked medium rare and cooked perfectly medium rare with onions, avocado and bacon, along with the tap house's homemade potato chips. These were delicious and hit the spot. Unfortunately the only beers available for carry out were cans of Bud, Bud Lite, and other tame beers. While the taphouse had a generous selection of draft beers, none of those were available for carry out. A can of surly furious would've been nice. Also the place didn't offer curbside. Both of these problems should be addressed during the COVID-19 crisis. read more

Raw chicken, Ordered a crispy chicken wrap. Bit into the second half and there was a large piece of raw chicken in my bite. Not undercooked battered chicken just a piece of raw chicken. Had no reason to be there. the chicken in my rollup was crispy and fried. Brought it up to the server and they comped just my wrap Never-mind all eating stopped at the table the minute it happened. The bartender, Haley D, is the one of the sweetest and most wonderful human beings I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her service was excellent and her attitude was incredibly positive. I ordered a strawberry margarita and to be perfectly honest it was the greatest margarita I've ever had it my entire life, and I've been to Mexico before. I would happily walk into this establishment any day of the week and spend all day drinking margaritas and enjoying many of their fabulous appetizers. This experience has been an 11/10 and there's nothing that can change my mind. Also, the manager, April, is one of the greatest leaders I've ever met. read more

We have been coming to this Boulder Tap House since it opened, at least once a month, and often brought friends/family. This time was extremely disappointing. The restaurant was nearly empty and all the wait staff (I counted 5 not including the bartender) were standing around chatting. We were initially sitting in a booth, but moved due to the flies surrounding us. When we told the waitress about it, she shrugged and said, "there's flies everywhere." There was one person clearing tables and wiping, and we actually saw her use a carpet sweeper. We come from a family of restaurant servers/cooks and know what it takes to keep a restaurant clean. This restaurant has truly gone downhill. If there are that many flies, where are they coming from? And why are the staff standing around doing nothing? If the food were exceptional, maybe it would be worth the dirty surroundings. Sadly, it was not. We won't be back. read more

We really tried this place because we thought they would have Boulder Beer. They did not. They did, however, have quite a variety of local, and regional beers. I like that. They also have some good sandwiches, including a Black Bean Burger that is as good as any I have had anywhere. The burger was more firm than most, and it had good flavor. You can get that burger substituted for any burger on any sandwich they offer. That's a bit rare in the land of meat, butter, and cheese. What we really like about this place was our waitress. She was good, and attentive withoiut being annoying. She was also vegetarian, and we felt sorry for her living in this place. We had no problem at all with the sevice, the speed of service, or the quality of our food. It was a very enjoyable expereience. read more

Back to the summer understaffing of the Tap house. I am a local and the decline in the service is simply unacceptable. The food, as always was good but everything else it takes to get the food and the glasses for your beer is ridiculous. Before the food came we let our beers slowly warm to room temperature before I got up to retrieve the requested glasses to pour the liquid deliciousness into. I happily found our waitress at the end of the bar where she handed me the glasses I went looking for. After the food came and we finished it off, we waited almost a half hour with empty glasses and were never checked on. It was at that time, we decided it would be faster to go elsewhere since we could do that and be served faster. Requested another employee find our waitress so we could get our bill to do just that. After another ten minutes, we had to flag down the waitress on our own, so she could then bring us all of our bills incorrectly... On the second try, I hand wrote on the receipt to show her the in-corrections. I never did get the correct receipt, just an adjusted credit card receipt. On a positive note, the manager did stop by to display her unworthiness to do anything. She left to check on what the hold ups were and never returned. I would recommend driving by and finding someplace else. Not the Birthday dinner I was hoping for my girl. read more

Nothing special. The food is OK and the beer list is good. There are TVs everywhere showing sports. My beer at the bar was overflowing and I didn't get a coaster or napkins to clean it up. My Brown sugar cheddar burger was good, but the fries were barely warm and rubbery. There's 30-year old rock music playing at an unusually low volume for a sports bar. It's time for new tunes and some volume. This music was fine in the 80s, but it's dated. Service was OK and got better as the crowd thinned out. So rarely is a dining experience so below my expectations that I talk about it. To begin with, there was no service to speak of, we recieved one drink when we were seated, she took our order and the next time we even saw our server was 20 minutes after the meal was brought out by the cook! Our drinks were empty when the food was out, the cook said she'd send our server, but she walked right by us twice. I'm not a fan of flagging down servers, so I usually don't. Then she brought us our bill before we'd even sampled more than 2 beers, instead of waiting another hour for her to come back, we decided to make an exit. The Burgers were pretty standard fare. Having worked in a few short order places I quickly recognized most things being Sysco origin. The meat for the burger is good quality, however the Mushroom Swiss didn't come with real swiss, it came with that Sysco american-swiss milk cheese that I'm not sure is even legal to advertise it as cheese. There were an impressive 40 taps at the restaurant, and the interior looks great. Out of 40 taps, there were only 8 (out of over 60) different beer styles represented, so that was dissappointing, unless you really adore IPAs, then it would work out. Their one Bock was sold out, so again, if you enjoy non-stereotypical craft beer styles like Irish Reds, and english brown ales, this place will dissappoint you. In short, if you like being treated poorly, and you enjoy standard Sysco burgers and cheeses, this place is for you! read more

My husband and I stopped in to watch the Iowa/Wisconsin at 11 am on a Saturday while we were up north. Excellent beer selection and every pour is only 5 bucks. This is a way better deal (and beer selection!) than most places in the Cities. They had lots of TVs to watch the game and the staff was very friendly. The food was okay. The cheese curds were good (maybe not legendary...) but greasy. My wrap was okay. The food gets 3.5 stars but the beer menu menu gets a straight 5. My first visit there and I was not impressed. I ordered the fish taco and the others with me ordered burgers and a child's plate. My fish taco arrived lukewarm at best with some cold spots. And the child's plate was to have a juice. We were told that the juice was on it's way. We waited and waited. Asked for it 2 more times, each time we were told it would be right out, but it was brought out as we were putting on our coats to leave. So, we asked for it to be in a to-go cup and to have the upcharge removed. As for my fish taco plate, they did replace it and the second time it was at the proper temp. The waitress made sure to bring it out hot and so it came to me in 2-parts. Much better. BUT, she said the manager would come over to talk to me about it -- that never happened. Though they did comp 1/2 off my meal for the inconvenience. My two star rating is because the juice for the child did not arrive in a timely manner despite being told it would be brought right away and the manager not apologizing for the cold taco plate. I Was excited to come here after learning about the spicy avocado burger. After receiving my order, the presentation was lack-luster; if words need to be said, then it was ok. The 1/2 lb patty presented with a nice char and had me getting ahead of myself. The jalapeno aioli sauce was in abundance and topped with sliced avocado. It comes with hickory bacon, but said bacon was hiding better than Anne Frank. The bite. It's quite a large bite and creates the anticipation of a really good burger. The jalapeno aioli sauce presented first and was nice, the hickory bacon came next and settled my anticipation and I was happy. But by my third bite, the whole thing fell flat. The jalapeno aioli was no longer present and the bacon became non-existent. The patty itself... well I was extremely disappointed. It left me utterly sad. I'm hurt. The charred patty was a glorified hockey puck that gave me nothing, nada, zip zero. No sense of any flavor, absolutely nothing what so ever. It literally became a struggle to consume after the third bite, and I say that because I cut the burger in half before the first bite. My opinion: It fell flat. Straight downhill with the gas peddle pressed against the floor at full power screaming "witness me". The Jalapeno Aioli sauce needs more pop or spice throughout the whole eating event and the much anticipated bacon was only a single bite worth. More is required because the bacon was actually the only good part of the whole system. The patty needs help, it really needs does. In my opinion its on life support and it would be a kindness to pull the plug. It made the burger a big disappointment. I can not express it enough. It hurt me. Three stars although it should be two, as the first bite was good, but then went down in flames like a skydiver without a parachute. read more
