I've been waiting for the entire procedure to be finished in order to write a complete review. I…read moresaw Dr. Carter for a cavity that I had known about for 6 months. I went in for the initial appointment, had x-rays done, had the exam with Dr. Carter and scheduled the filling/possible root canal for the following week. When my tooth cracked over the weekend I thought, oh great now I'm going to have to have a root Canal. I called and they got me in right away. They took more x-rays and when I explained I had just had x-rays done they linked the current x-rays with the ones from the previous week so I didn't get charged! Dr. Carter was amazing! The shot didn't hurt and I was barely sore from it once the novocaine wore off oh, and he used just the right amount of novocaine so when I was leaving the office it was already starting to wear off. Why is this important? No biting of the inside of my cheek when I ate, no slurred speech for the rest of the day and no drooling which is always a bonus. After he cleaned out the cavity he said that he could see 'the shadow of the root'. He told me that he could do the root canal OR we could simply treat it as a cavity. Regardless it would have to be a crown. Ok, when does the dentist EVER give you the option to decide what you want to do? We went the cavity route and he explained that if I had any pain at any time to call and we would have to do the root canal. I didn't have any pain! NONE. It would take about 2 weeks for the crown to come in. I got a call 4 days early and they said it was in and that I could come in early if I'd like. The fitting for the crown was ridiculously seamless and easy. Dr. Carter even sanded down my retainer to fit the new tooth. All in all this had been such a positive experience which isn't the normal review for any dentist. If you have medicaid and need a dentist go to Dr., Carter!

They kept telling me it wasn't ready yet. 3) The dentist acted like it was my fault that I waited 3 weeks to get it done. 4) The dentist did not care about pain management AT ALL. I asked for numbing because I know I have sensitive teeth so she gave me a shot. I was in pain the entire time and when I told her it hurt too bad for me to bite down she grabbed my jaw and squeezed my mouth shut. 5) The crown has a sharp edge on it that is cutting my tongue. 6) When I called to get the sharp edge filed down they told me that I couldn't see a different dentist, it had to be the same one that completely ignored my comfort and consent. I'll be paying $100 out of pocket to get a different dentist to fix this mess. Go literally anywhere else.

The office is well-decorated and cozy with accent walls and aesthetically-pleasing black and white photos of people with ridiculously white teeth. They have complimentary fruit and drinks (orange juice, green tea, water, etc.), free yummy chapstick, and of course your obligatory floss and toothpaste. The exam/cleaning rooms all have nice, big windows, so you can look out the window or watch TV while you are having work done, your choice. Also, you have the option of dipping your hands in a paraffin wax bath for a nice hand treatment as you get your teeth done. Absolutely genius ... I mean, if you're sitting there for an extended period of time anyway, why not? Everyone I interacted with there was very pleasant, but, most importantly, honest. Dr. Alber has a very frank, here's-how-it-is personality, which I really appreciated. He told me I should consider having my wisdom teeth out in the near future, and when I admitted that I thought I would be doing that on my next visit to Peru, he encouraged me. "Heck, they can do it for a lot cheaper than I can -- and they have good dentists!" he said. I really appreciated that because he could have said something like "Well, the only way you can be SURE to have it done well is to go through me." I loved the no-upsale approach. My visit was very cheap; with insurance, it ended up being $22, but without it would have been $110 for cleaning, xrays, and checkup. I will definitely be going back.

Two major negatives and two positives: - Lack of Professionalism: Their Dental Hygienist was unprofessional in her delivery of bad news regarding my teeth and gums to the degree that she seemed happy when I was tearing up. I won't go into the details on this but please know that had I not just exposed myself to radiation that I didn't want to repeat immediately to get help with my teeth, I would have immediately left their offices. - Lack of Professional Response: When I told the dentist that their hygienist treated me so rudely that I had tested up, her response was to tell me "she and her hygienist were completely aligned in diagnosing and delivering bad news" which she later said "oh, we'll, sorry but you don't have to see her when you return." Neither responses assured me that this practice values the patient experience. Positives: + The dentist seemed competent in examining teeth. + The dental tech was friendly and professional.

They up-charge for fluoride which no other dentist I've been to has ever done. They add a 3% fee if you use a credit card. Current or future customers, do not believe their estimates from your dental insurance will be accurate. Call your insurance plans yourself since Boulder Canyon Dental will not! Get the correct price from your insurer and THEN decide if you want BCD to do the treatment or not. Our bill went from about $570 to about $1,100! BCD will not take the time to do a "special request" with your insurance company because BCD is a "small family-owned business" and cannot ask insurers specific questions about your dental history. By the way BCD had our dental history from past dentists, but also didn't have time to go over it, same excuse. The insurance person sure had time to give long, professional responses to my email complaints, mostly blaming our dental insurance for the estimate mismatch but she didn't have time to call them to see what the actual cost would be. We had already changed dentists before all of this occurred too. The bill came after we had our records moved to another dentist since BCD dropped our dental insurance and would charge us high prices for just fillings and X-Rays. I have felt BCD has been money hungry since starting to go there. Our friend was overbilled by $500 extra, but he fought and won a check back from BCD for the errant billing. Ours was unfortunately correct, just a bad estimate.

I copied my review from Google to make sure my story gets out:…read more I used to really like this dentist. They fixed a broken tooth with a filling that broke in 6 months, which they fixed. Then the same filling broke again after ~4 years. I complained every cleaning that the filling was lose. Their excuse is that the average filling lasts 2 years. So? Are you saying you should be held to the standard of average? I want above average care. I went to canyon dental because I trusted them. Now I don't. I expected them to stand by their customers, especially loyal ones who recommend them. But I guess not. When I did a simple Google search the average filling should last between 5 and 20 years depending on material. So either the dentist lied to me or is out of touch with recent studies from the NIH that say they last atleast 5 years. On top of this they forgot to finish a tooth extraction properly for a friend I recommended, resulting in dry socket. I left the review at two stars because of their previous service. Which is reflected in my original review below, only because of the hygienist they had working: Great dentist!! Cyndi is the best hygienist I have ever had. Empathetic for any sort of pain you might have. Just has a super light hand that always leaves my teeth sparkling with minimal discomfort. I highly recommend Boulder canyon dental, especially if you have had past issues with dentists. They are very accommodating and understanding. Ask for Cyndi!!
