Bottle drop hell
Davin T.

Finally I get to give something one star. Since the price of deposits has gone up to $.10 I have been keeping bottles and cans but every time I have been to redeem my deposit, the lines of been long the place smells. I researched the option of setting up an account and having the green bags for the service of dropping off the cans and bottles and having them count it out, then the refund put onto your account and you can withdraw at your own convenience. The first time I went to set up an account, there were no bags available and I could not do it, the second time some machines had broken down and the attendant was too busy and not able to do it, the third time I was determined and I lined up and waited 45 minutes to set up an account and get my 12 bags. I have since then dropped off two bags as that is all you are able to do at one time, I have a couple more left to do. Hopefully it all becomes much easier in the future. They obviously try to have everything organized and clean but it is an uphill battle, the lines of people out the front and the smell is almost unbearable.

The room is bright and clean

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. This was my first time using the green bag method and it was very convenient.

It is what it is. Patience is a virtue if your going to take the time to make your bottle deposit at any can & bottle redemption center.

As far as dumps go this one is pretty deluxe. Really clean (I know that seems unlikely--and indeed…read morethis doesn't include smells), and the staff here are super friendly and helpful. You drive up on a scale and they weigh your vehicle, then you drive into a massive building and dump your junk. They reweigh your vehicle and charge you based on the weight of crap you threw out. This isn't a "landfill". It's a processing station. From what I've seen watching their videos, Portland's solid waste is trucked out into the high desert somewhere and buried in a landfill. This transfer station works to pull out all of the recyclables before that happens. Remember to cover your load.

This review is really only to address the poor service of one employee - Charles (older, Black male) - who was working at my last visit. I pulled my vehicle and trailer quite far into the public entrance and waited a few minutes for someone to approach (there was no one visible). After a few minutes I looked around and to my left saw Charles sitting down in a chair - he looked to be texting on his phone. I yelled out "hello?" and he ever-so-slowly came over and proceeded to start the process (I had paperwork) so slowly without a greeting and in such a disinterested manner that I wondered if he had fallen asleep standing up. He turned a quick paperwork collection and inspection into a painfully long process where he barely moved. Felt like he was paying me back for disturbing his slumber. Maybe he can retire or find a place where he doesn't interact with paying customers?

Oof this bottle drop is the prime location that 'everyone' goes to. Expect very long wait times if…read moreyou don't have the green bags to drop off- That is one of the nicest option they have and very convenient, but you don't get your money right away (usually in a day or two). The drop off door is on the side near the entrance. You need your card to open the door (wait three seconds to pull). After I go drop off my cans, I go in and get a box of bags and print some tags. *Usually* there is paper for tags, but if it's busy and they're out, your best bet is to come back later. Your maxed allowed bags to drop off every three months is 15. A nice pro is there usually is security around. I am giving this location low stars because of just how... busy and not so clean it can get. The area is also sketch as it's in a high crime area with business slowly moving away. Line is long outside the door, but only a certain amount can be in. Line also forms pretty early in the AM. Parking is tight. I wish I could give The workers the 5 stars as they are always nice and helpful and I'm thankful they show up. There is also the bottle drop app that is convenient that has your card on it and balance and remaining bags.

The guard then screamed at my little sister, who is a minor, and I confronted her about her behavior. She responded arrogantly, claiming her job gave her power. She made racist remarks about Mexicans and people of color and even threatened my sister with a year-long ban from entry. The worker next to her witnessed the situation but didn't help. This encounter left my sister upset, and my mom, who is unwell, is worried about her. We deserve respectful treatment regardless of our culture or skin color.
