You can look at the…read morepictures but they either make a place look nicer than it is or understate the beauty of the location. This park went beyond my expectations. Okay, I admit I thought Iowa was one big corn field. Well in a sense it is but there are many rolling hills with green tree belts in between. The park is located around a beautiful little lake that offers camping, fishing, swimming and boating opportunity. Certain sections offered multiple lake view sites, some were reservable to sites. We were lucky and reserved a view of the lake and no camper on other side. The park seemed well maintained, beautiful old grove trees through out. Like some County and State parks they offered power but no sewer or water. Some sites had water close enough to refill we did not. So we had to be careful with our usage and showered at the one facility. This will be my only complaint, the women's shower was dirty and needed a good cleaning. They had a water refill stations and dump station as well as outhouses. The one close us was clean. I took my mountain bike out on the trail that runs around part of the lake over dams, bridges over marshy areas, thick forest and beaches. It wasn't actually a single track trail mostly on grass that is kept mowed down wide as golf cart width. It was rated intermediate not because it was technical, I believe it was because it had some steep hills that had me breathing hard. I would highly recommend this gem of a park while traveling through or if you want a nice camping weekend in Iowa.

The entire scene is a visual masterpiece that simply must be experienced in person and up close.

This is a small but neat little park that features a bunch of life sized sculptures of early…read moresettlers and pioneers. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance, but this is not a destination park and most people won't be traveling here just for the park. It is touted as one of the largest sculpture parks of its kind in the US. The bronze and stainless steel sculptures are the work of Blair Buswell and Edward Fraughton. They give a very life-like and accurate depiction of westward expansion with statues families and animals, with wagons, venturing into unfamiliar territory. First National Bank commissioned the large project, which was headed by landscape architect Jim Reeves. This was one of two parks that were commissioned by the Bank. The sculptures are divided into sub sections including one titled Wagon Master, which represents the wagon that guided the rest of the pioneers and was responsible for supplies and management of the group. There is also the Hunter Group, which represents the wagon trains that were responsible for hunting and providing food provisions. You will also see the Trail Boss, waving his hat in the air and a Native American sentinel . The sculptures are very detailed. You can really feel their struggle. Viewers are able to mingle about and in between the sculptures. On the back side of the sculptures is an overlook area with some cement benches and some information placards along the wall. There is also a paved walkway and a decent patch of green space that I saw some people with their dogs. This is a nice park and definitely catches your eyes, but I do not see people making this their primary destination. Most visitors, such as myself, will be passing by or on their way to another destination and then are drawn in by the magnificent sculptures. Still, it is something that you must see while in Omaha. I highly recommend checking it out.

There's multiple different trails…read moreand terrains from open prairie to heavily wooded and even a gorgeous view of the Omaha skyline. I came here for the first time for a company volunteer event actually and was able to help their conservation team clear brush as part of their habitat rehabilitation efforts. The conservation team was incredibly knowledgeable and made the impact of our work clear, leaving us feeling accomplished at the end of our event. I recommend going here for hiking and also volunteering - check out the volunteer calendar for personal and company opportunities!

Neale Woods is a great place for hiking, flower viewing, and fungi finding!…read more We've visited a few times and seen different neat natural things each time we go. It costs a few dollars ($5 the last we went), but that fee goes to upkeep on the park, so it's a good cause you're paying toward. The only issue we ever ran into was when we hiked a bit and came out of the woods onto a road, and weren't sure which way to go to get back to the main entrance. Luckily, we guessed correctly and went the forest way, but a few signs may help others not make our mistake. If you are looking for a fun activity for the whole family (or just yourself!), give Neale Woods a try!

Winding through the middle of the Iowa Western Community College campus, Treasure Cove is a…read morechallenging, beautiful course that's always in tip-top shape. Plus it's only about a 10 minute drive from downtown Omaha. There's plenty for everyone here: multiple tees for multiple skill levels, a few mando shots for those up for the challenge and holes that range from wide open spaces to secluded hideaways in the woods. There's a creek that winds through much of the course that's taken advantage of as well -- you have to love their signature hole with the basket that hangs from a pedestrian bridge just above the water (hole 13 I think?). Plus, you'll likely see a little wildlife when you're here, including adorable little baby deer. The only con I can think of is that you often run into the occasional jock or 40 as they prep to fulfill their juco dreams. Best to go during school breaks.

Well groomed with a nice mix of hills and valleys. Not a terrible hike, but not an easy walk. Wearing sandals is not a great idea, but try telling that to a college kid. Outdated signage (hole 10) and rubber mats. If they would just pour some concrete (money$$) for the pads it would be fine. Leave the rubber for an Ace Race of the like, but make the rest perpetual. A couple of easy 3's and hard 4's. I like it a lot. I would love to see this course mature and am glad to have played it in its; youth

The Spirit of Nebraska Primarily consists of a bunch of buffaloes and Canadian geese. I love how they have scattered a few of the sculptures all the way down a couple of blocks. The Loess Hills are exactly what they sound like - some hills made of a lot of dirt and sediment…read more While that doesn't sound super exciting, it is quite a scenic drive around the Loess Hills if you're a fan of wide open spaces, fields, and liminal-space type visages. I think it's sort of beautiful to look out over the plains and open sky - you can see every single cloud and storm coming in. Now, I wouldn't say that the Loess Hills are something that you need to make a special trip to see/visit, but if you're passing by them, I would definitely recommend a stop to just take a gander!

The corn fields were all dried up when I went (in October) which made it even less picturesque. The drive itself was OK, but I found a short "out and back" hike in the Loess hills that ended up in the woods that wasn't too bad.
