I am quite cynical with trendy new brunch spots, but Botero actually surpassed my expectations. The menu wasn't extensive, but rather had a good range that was just enough to give a small variety but focus on high quality.
The prices were great for such good quality ingredients and preparation, and you get a decent size serve for $20 and under. Staff were very friendly, polite and not at all pushy even if our friends were quite late and we took up a table for quite a while. When one friend forgot to pay for an item when we split our bill, they were extremely polite and handled it well.
The food - great! They had a range of gorgeous pastries from Sprout, and the almond croissant was perfect - a good amount of almond filling without excess, but at the same time a moist yet crispy pastry. My omelette was delicious, with a lovely chimichurri and raclette topped with proscuitto. The only loss in points to get a perfect score was because my raclette only appeared a third into my omelette which was melted but barely warm, and the proscuitto was quite soft and warmed rather than cooked. This may have been the way it was meant to be (I'm not sure) but it was very soft like barely cooked bacon so it would have been better just served cured or fried rather than just warmed. It was still quite nice and I really enjoyed it. The bread wasn't the freshest either - in particular the crust was so chewy I had a lot of trouble cutting into it. The serve of hash browns was stunning though - extremely crispy yet still moist and a complex herbed flavour. OMG! Coffee was lovely and served in the prettiest crockery.
Definitely a great spot that gives many overrated city cafes a great run for their money. About bloody time!! read more
