As well as all the history associated with this particular bay, this place is great if you're into your watersports. Located right next to the main runway at Sydney International Airport, Botany Bay is inhabited by all sorts of water-based sports enthusiasts. Everyone from sailors to kayakers to kite surfers take up residence here, and when the wind picks up there's even more of them (although not so much the kayakers, the waves can get a bit choppy). I recently went out on a friend's boat, and it really is a great place to be out on the water, especially if you're like me and very much enjoy being so close to the planes landing and taking off! Nothing quite like the sight of a 747 a few feet above your head as your sailing along! It's also a fantastic place to watch a sunset from as it goes down right near the skyline of the CBD, creating an awesome silhouette of the city.
The beach bordering the bay stretches all the way from Brighton-le-Sands down to Dolls Point, along The Grand Parade, and there are various car parks along the way for you to park up and sort your equipment out! read more
