These gardens provide multiple styles and themes of gardens and areas to walk around, along with playgrounds and several enclosures for small animals including goats, sheep, owls, various birds, turtles, rabbits and more! There is also a small, but beautiful Plamenhaus. You can easily spend a couple hours walking through everything and it's the perfect place to bring your family and a picnic lunch. We were there in November so the flowers weren't in bloom, but I am sure that in the summertime the colors are magnificent. The gardens are free to the public and have been since 1780. This was an absolutely beautiful palace and a truly unique experience. A UNESCO World Heritage site that's known for its Baroque Grandeur. We purchased tickets to both the upper and lower houses to view the extensive art collections. If you like Gustav Klimt, this is where you will be able to see his most famous work The Kiss as well as some of his other paintings. It also houses paintings from Monet, and Van Gogh a magnificent Rodin sculpture.

Although when we went one was 95% seen. It will take you about half an hour to walk around and see the whole exhibition. You do learn some interesting fun facts about butterflies. Still rainy, so let's stay inside…read more As part of the Hofburg Royal Palace, The Imperial Butterfly House is housed within an Art Nouveau greenhouse in the Burggarten. Admission in 7€. The gravel path makes a loop through the garden and round a small creek and waterfall. The path is quite narrow in spots. As you walk in there is a case of chrysalises. Some butterflies as recently emerged. Not sure if it was the time of year, December, but there were not many butterflies flitting around, or a large variety. I believe I saw around a half dozen or so different types. A single atlas moth larger than my hand was resting near the door as you walked in. You can watch them eat on bananas and special flowers sprayed with honey water. I looped the garden twice, in about 45 minutes. There's a room off from the gift shop that shows a loop film about the life cycle of butterflies and moths. Ok for a rainy day. I wouldn't return.

I could no longer purchase a ticket online for the post-closing private tour and concert package, but when I got there, there was a guy at a cart who sold me a Section A ticket for €89 (online it was € 132.00), with a pre-concert private tour for free. Sweet! I was really looking forward to this, because the private tour+concert deal is only available on Fridays and Satudays, I'm SO GLAD I made it on time! It was very beautiful to walk through Schönbrunn Palace, listen to the audio tour (I was surprised that Franz Joseph was described as worshipping his wife Elisabeth, because she was miserable in their marriage and even through their estrangement, he always dearly loved her), and then be led to the orangerie for the concert. I was amazed by the beautiful and grand rooms, a must-see when you're in Vienna! The orangerie was also gorgeous, and the lights were beautiful. Since I was in section A, I got a free drink. I didn't want alcohol, so I had orange juice with ice, which they served me in a wine glass. The concert was very beautiful. Even though I pretty much knew nothing that was played except for I think one song, it was a beautiful performance, and the orchestra and opera singers are all incredibly talented. When in the classical music capital in the world, it's a must to catch at least one classical concert!

Inside, you'll find the recreation of a desert environment - cactuses and succulents galore. There are plenty of non-plant inhabitants too - scorpions (safely behind glass), lizards (same thing) and plenty of free-flying birds. This makes a great stop for kids who'll enjoy watching the birds swoop around - but I liked it a great deal too! A visit won't take long - maybe 30 or 40 minutes, but it's a wonderful stop especially if it's chilly outside!
