We had our wedding in the Poconos, and being that we're not from the area, we had no idea where to…read morestart with a cake baker. After a month of reading reviews and making phone calls, looking at pictures and emailing our ideas, we decided Lynne with Sweet Sensations Cakes was the way to go. We scheduled our cake tasting 7 months before our wedding, in the middle of the winter, during a snow storm. Our GPS had taken us a slightly more difficult way to navigate when there is 6 inches of snow on the ground, and when we came to a point where we could no longer see the road, I called Lynne panicking that we had went the wrong way. She told us to just go straight and that there was a road there...unfortunately, that road was right next to grass which had snow over it, and we got stuck! We called Lynne once more and were so relieved when she told us her husband could pull us out and would be right over. He came within 5 minutes, hooked up our car to his truck, pulled us out and on to the road (about 5 feet away from where we were stuck) and took us inside. When we met Lynne she was so apologetic and sweet, offered us lunch and coffee, and of course, the cake samples in the flavors we had requested. I usually hate cake, I never eat it at weddings or birthdays, and rarely ever bake a cake for family members. Lynne's cake was AMAZING. I loved it! I joked that my only complaint was that she should have made bigger pieces to sample, because the 10-12 bites of each flavor just wasn't enough. She went over the design idea with us, gave us a price, and sent us on our way. The month before the wedding, she checked in with us, and we gave her our final number a week before as she had asked. The night of the wedding, when I saw the cake I was shocked at how beautiful it was! It was so simple and elegant, just like we had pictured in our minds. But the best part wasn't just the look of it; it tasted awesome. At least 10 people had told me how great the cake tasted and looked. I would highly recommend Sweet Sensations Cakes to anyone.

From the moment we walked in, we were amazed by the incredible assortment of fresh, homemade breads, cookies, cakes, and more. Everything is beautifully made with obvious care and craftsmanship. The atmosphere at the bakery is warm and welcoming, and you can immediately tell that this is a place built on pride, tradition, and a true love for baking. Every item we tried was absolutely delicious, and the quality is second to none. It's rare these days to find a place where you feel like you've stepped into something truly special -- and Beach Lake Bakery is exactly that. We are so happy to have found this gem, and we'll surely be back many times. What a treasure to have right here in our own backyard! Highly, highly recommended!

They supply many of the better restaurants in the area with their outstanding breads. Lisa's bread was by far my favorite, nice crust, tart dense interior. Although the brie cheese and pear pastry was superb. The pies were delicious as well. I've never had a straight up raspberry, mixed berry or a strawberry rhubarb yes, but not this. The pie crust is very similar to when you make it at home- buttery, flaky, nice balance between the crust and the rich fruit. Their website provides the option to order ahead and then pick up.

I was considering ordering a cake from ShopRite until I came across Sweet as Sugar Desserts. I'm so happy I found them because I prefer supporting local businesses, especially when they are POC and women owned. Right off the bat, the customer service was amazing. No more than 2 hours after I submitted the order form online, was I contacted by the proprietor Christiane. After a short email exchange, we spoke on the phone to communicate order specifics and to ensure she understood my "vision." And boy, did she come through! I already had a good sense of her decorating skills, but since there were no other reviews, I really did not know what to expect in terms of flavor. I ordered a tres leche cake with dulce de leche filling, and it frikken delicious!! The cake was perfectly moist, and the flavor of the filling was well balanced with the cake - which with this flavor combo can be overly sweet. But she really killed it and everyone loved it, the birthday girl especially. I couldn't recommend Sweet as Sugar Desserts enough!

They ended up not enjoying it, so that's why there's some missing and none of us wanted to eat it anymore! Spoke to Suzi when picking up the cake and explained to her that the cake would not be eaten on the day of, but instead two days later. The cake was for September 1st and that happened to be Labor Day so I had to pick it up earlier! She said, "That's fine," and it can be stored in the fridge for up to a week and in the freezer for up to three months. So, not sure why there's a sense of judgement, cakes should be able to be stored for longer periods of time! And we wanted to order from a bakery specifically, since it was a special occasion. Not sure what your reference to a "squished" cake has to do with it food will accumulate residue in containers overtime! 9/12/25 From seeing professional pictures online of the beautiful cakes on Google Reviews of Suzi Cakes and good reviews on Yelp, I genuinely thought that the red velvet cake I ordered over the phone with Suzi would be amazing. Boy, was I wrong. I had to throw out the cake after 6 days because no one wanted to eat it anymore. We gave some part of the cake away to a relative, so we didn't consume much...not sure if they enjoyed it either. There were 'red' flags that I noticed when placing an order with Suzi. I chose to ignore them because I needed a nicely catered cake for my sister's birthday. Suzi sounded very direct over the phone and sometimes dismissive, so I felt that I needed to truly know and prepare for how I wanted my cake each time I called. I could not go in person to explain or show pictures due to the distance from her business in East Hanover. Suzi gave me the listed price of $90, and I personally thought it was overpriced for a 7-inch, single-tiered cake. I originally did not want to place with Suzi, but I could not find a place around me that would do a red velvet cake legitimately, besides Coco Luxe Cakes in Peapack and Gladstone. Coco Luxe discontinued their red velvet cakes, unfortunately, which is the cake I truly needed, hence why I ordered here. Next, trying to find the suite number and building for this place was a nightmare, another red flag. It's very tight behind some train tracks and very easy to miss. Thank goodness for advanced technology and Google Maps/Street View for helping me navigate. I called Suzi on the phone so she could service me at the front desk to get the cake. I picked up the cake and truly believed that I would make my sister's birthday special, and I planned everything perfectly. I stored the cake in the fridge for 2 days before eating and followed all of Suzi's storage directions. We tried the cake and it was awful. It had a fermented-like taste, and we could not eat it. I saw a similar review on Yelp of someone having Suzi make their cake for their wedding, and their wedding guests could not eat it; it was that bad. I was hoping that would not happen to me, but it did, surely. The icing was hard, dry, and chunky; the cake itself lacked flavor. I got a red velvet cake from ShopRite in July for $16.99, and it tasted way better; just the cake was a little dry. I called Suzi to give her some feedback so she knows. She informed me to come back so she could examine the taste, but at that point, we threw the cake out. $90 truly wasted. Can't really ask for a refund, I guess, because I never came back to her about it, because her location is almost an hour from my house...not sustainable for me. Despite the good reviews, I will never go to Suzi Cakes again. I will stick with another recommendation I got from a relative for Coco Luxe in Peapack if I want a professionally made cake from a bakery. My sister's birthday was ruined, and no one in my family liked the cake. The price for the cake was outrageous, and compared to other local bakeries in the area, the price does not justify the taste. The presentation of the cake is good, but the taste is abysmal. Save yourself, your palate, and your wallet by looking elsewhere!

Suzi Cakes could not have been nicer or more accommodating with just 2 weeks notice. The communication was so simple, professional, and pleasant. They delivered the cake exactly when they said (in the pouring rain) and even placed the topper and flowers on it before leaving! And then the cake itself...oh my yum! We did Vanilla with Oreo Mousse filling and it was DELICIOUS. The cake was so soft, fluffy, and flavorful. And the filling was awesome! I know I've found my new bakery for future events!!! Thank you Suzi Cakes!

We were so lucky to have to pick up our kitchen in Honesdale because we stumbled upon this very…read morequaint restaurant / patisserie (pastry shop) in Honesdale downtown. One orders at the counter, however, the dishes are brought to the table. The cashier was also the server, but I thought perhaps she was also the co-owner. [I didn't ask her for the story, but when I asked about the Vivian Gray Lotus and Rose soap in the bathroom, she said she had bought like a case of the German soap when she saw it on sale. (I'm super jealous because the soap is absolutely divine smelling - and rose is one of my favorite scents.)] Hubby started out with the French onion soup. He was in love. The good thing was I didn't taste any alcohol in it (which is good because not only are we teetotalers, but we can't cook with alcohol, either), but I thought the broth was fairly one dimensional, not too far above just bouillon. The onions were not sufficiently caramelized, either, in my opinion. (I make good French onion soup - and so I expect a chef's version of it to be better than mine.) Hubby liked that the cheese was wrapped around the piece of baguette floating on top. He then had the [Norwegian?] salmon on a bagel, which had quite a few capers on top. Again, he was in love - salmon, bagel, cream cheese, what's not to? I, too, thought it was a wonderful dish. I had ratatouille, which contained kalamatas. I've never heard of olives in ratatouille, but it was quite delicious as well, albeit a bit oily. The presentation was very nice as well. The eggplant was so tender it was almost melted, and the tomatoes, onions, etc. were nicely seasoned and was very enjoyable. I used baguette pieces to eat most of the dish up with. The dish is piping hot and, as the server warned, there may or may not be pits in the olives (there were none in mine), so beware! There is no tap water served and, according to a local, this is a good thing since, again according to her, Honesdale has the US's 4th worst tapwater in the nation. So we chose San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa (hubby) and a nice Sarasota sparkling (which may or may not be bottled right there in Pennsylvania). For dessert (to go; we were too full!), hubby got a delightful almond cake of some sort; I did not have the presence of mind to snap a photo of it before he devoured it (after we got home). He was generous, however, and gave me a bite - and it was so delightful and creamy and almondy. A few days later, I finally ate the cranberry muffin - and absolute perfection. Moist, wonderful, fresh cranberries. And despite the fresh cranberries, especially those on top, not one bitter one to be found. What's wonderful, too, are the prices. So, so, so, and did I say so reasonable?!?!? A delightful, charming place and, God willing, we will be able to go more frequently.
