I am a single parent and I enrolled my son here just months after he had turned 7 (the school had just opened). He was enrolled at the other tkd school in Quincy but.... after my 3 month trial there I soon realized that place just didn't fit right with us. Sadly, the TKD Master/instructor that we signed up with had left that school some time after. We never saw him again. Dec 2012, my son and I, noticed the yellow awning that had a new tkd school that just opened. We walked in and was greeted by an instructor names Liem. He was a sweet man and gave us the package information and told us that we would be contacted soon to followup a meeting with the school manager. Her name was Leslie and she clearly went over costs and offered different packages and we finally figured out a number we were both happy. I signed him up for the black belt program and as of today my son is two ranks away after 2 years! Oh and I want to mention that in my meeting with Leslie, I learned that the Master that opened BEST TAEKWONDO is the one that left my son's previous school. So.... after learning that.... I was already sold. Master Seo also has a tkd school in korea so he often travels back and forth. It's always pleasure to learn when he is back. Along with Liem and Leslie, there are several other instructors, and they are all great. But i do want to mention specifically Kathy and Kent! These two have been very important to me in my son's tae Kwon do history and I must pay them the highest appreciation possible. Everyone makes this place stand out because not only is it a teaching institution but it also feels like a home.

All the other students are super nice as well, and more experienced students also help out beginners. There are students of all ages, from 6 to 60 (although not in the same class), and sometimes families (like mine) go and train together. You will get a lot fitter; learn basic kicks, punches, blocks, and so on; learn how to integrate those into forms and combinations; learn self-defense techniques; and, if you so choose, learn the sport of Taekwondo sparring. When I first started, I was at the school 2 hours a week, although that has increased to about 8 hours; you truly become part of a community that draws you in. That feeling as you get stronger and better at what you're doing, earning your next belt or scoring a point in a sparring match, that really is the best.

It is excellent exercise with strength, flexibility, balance, cardio, and agility, but much more than that it helps with the development of personal character and being strong in the winds of life. Working together makes everyone feel better and helps dispel the gloom of winter or politics--or whatever is going on in your life. There is a genuine caring in the very skilled and thoughtful teaching, with some good humor mixed, in so that anyone can enjoy it from very little children (some with incredible skills) to us old parents verging on 50. You will get stronger and progress! It has been very important to us and a really fun and positive experience. This is a very well run place with many resources, skills, and years of experience. They are really good people and truly care. Don't be afraid and just contact them! You won't regret it. (Well, you might regret it in the middle of some sets, but you will be grateful afterward and feel so much better!)

After looking at many different schools, we were sold on the Cha family as soon as we watched one of their classes for children. The Cha's artfully mixed rigor and discipline with compassion and understanding in managing a diverse group of students while keeping the class fun but structured. We were also impressed with their offering of family classes that allowed parents and children to train together--something which helped keep my son going through the program and kept him committed past his black belt. The Cha's are also very committed to the community they have built among their school's members. They do what they can to help and support families and were outstanding during the pandemic by structuring online classes, developing a remote testing program so that students could advance in rank, and driving and delivering belts to the students. Leading by example, the Cha's have created a community of members who are all supportive and respectful of each other. Since re-opening in the summer of 2021 in a beautiful new location, the Cha's are offering an outstanding program of in-person training (masked for now). Cha's Taekwon-Do is an excellent place for children to build confidence and discipline (that translates to school work), for families to train together and share in the experience, and for adults to improve their fitness and flexibility while learning a practical martial art. I have seen many other martial arts schools over the years and none compares to Cha's Taekwon-Do. It is definitely worth a look.

As a kid who sometimes has trouble concentrating in school, he is always focused in the taekwondo classes. The teachers know each student and are a perfect mix of firm and encouraging that helps the students to thrive. They also get to know the families and maintain a community feel around the school. I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a martial arts school for themselves or their children.

Are the instructors qualified to teach or care about their students? Are there enough classes offered to keep a regular schedule? This school checks all right criteria to be a good school. Not only a good one, it is probably one of the best one in the world! This happens to be my 22nd martial arts school I attended during my lifetime, and I will have really hard time when I need to relocate due to my job. I am spoiled to drop in whenever I want since there are classes both noon time and in the afternoon all week. No schools have such a vast class offering. Thank you Mr. Hwang!

Each teacher definitely has their different styles--some were really good at verbally explaining a particular technique, while others taught best through physical instruction. Apparently, the man who started this school, Jae H Kim, studied with the best tae kwon do master of this century (I've been told Kim's mentor created this particular martial art, but it's been around, in some form, for hundreds of years, so...) My fellow classmates were helpful and I never felt I was being judged if I hadn't fully learned a move. The manager of the school, Mr Wong, is the sort of teacher every student (child or adult) loves to have: he's relaxed and compassionate, but still gets you to do the work! You learn discipline here, but don't feel like anyone will get out the rod if you mess up. And...it's a true community. It's not quite as tight as the capoeira group I studied with, but still a definite collective. You'll have to sign up for a 6-month commitment when you join, which I think is good, since the whole reason I joined was to gain more discipline. And they'll hook you up with a uniform and make you feel at home. So go try it out!
