It's a really cool, old style shop. As it should be since it opened in 1870. One bit of information I had missed was Edgar Allen Poe was born in the apartment over the shop and continued to visit his mother there throughout her life. The city erected a statue out front but what caught my fancy was the tamper set commissioned by the shop to celebrate their famous neighbor. I also picked up a couple of their in house blended tobaccos. Was a super nice visit with Todd and Nate who were very helpful. Well worth the time to go by.

We eventually found a stem we could jerry rig in time for my Moroccan soiree. And he didn't even charge me for it. I do wish he carried smaller shisha boxes. The two I bought were ginormous. But a truly small complaint for such a nice little shop. Oh, and the boyfriend says that during his undergrad years he could buy whippits here without getting the stink eye. We browsed the shisha selection while the staff catered to the eighteen year olds buying one-hitters and a cracked out dude in rainbow sneakers who needed a new crackpipe or something. A dude told us not to grab anything ourselves; he'd be over to help us. Fine. I asked him for the flavors we wanted, and he explained that the boxes we were referring to were "back stock" and we could only buy them if we purchased the case, since no one buys more than the small boxes at a time. Uh-huh. I tried to figure out what that cost would be and he explained that, since we had "helped ourselves to choosing flavors and [he] got distracted, [he] wasn't able to explain how it worked." We said our brains were confused and left.

An interesting little place, it's like 3 stores in 1. I needed a pipe shop pretty close to where…read moreI'm staying that also had cheap pipes and grinders. I got in there and was a little surprised, it's like part mini mart, part, smoke shop, part headshop. Mini mart part has a good amount of snacks and drinks, even a slushy machine, didn't look at/buy tobacco so not sure exactly how good the selection is but seemed to be pretty good and have more tobacco than a gas station, as for the pipes, headshop part was also limited so you won't find anything big/too elaborate here, picky pipe buyers will probably need to go somewhere else, but if you just need a regular pipe/grinder, aren't too picky, and for cheap (each cost about $20), this is the place for your smoking needs, they also had a couple of one hitters too I believe. I would also like like to mention the salesgirl working the counter was actually pretty nice and it wasn't awkward talking with her about the items. The only downsides of this place is there isn't really much parking or it's just too hard (traffic), that you can't help but feel weird looking at pipes while kids are coming in, that one old lady giving you the stink eye, and the small space, you're trying to look at pipes but you keep having people needing to go around you.
