The parking garage is in a prime, central location that is great for many tourist attractions, including the theatre district. That location comes at a cost however, as traffic getting to the garage or leaving can be pretty hellish. Rates on the evenings and weekends are reasonable by Boston standards - as of February, the flat rate was $20, but spaces were available on SpotHero for $15. If you don't prepay, be prepared to wait in line for one of the few machines. read more

We prepaid for parking with Spot Hero. They said that valet parking is "standard and free" but it's not. The employees insist upon "tips". And by "valet" they mean that your on your own to find your car but they'll give you the keys back once you give them cash. Never again. read more

I paid to reserve a parking spot days in advance with Boston Common parking garage so I could attend a event. I showed up and was told they gave my spot away, that I can get a refund and oh well. There was a line of cars behind me all saying they paid to reserve a spot too. I completely missed the event because of them! Drove for a hour to get there, just to have to drive around downtown Boston for a hour and a half trying to find another spot, only to have to eventually leave. Worst experience I've had in a long time. Horrible scam artists, I believe they are hoping people won't get a refund. Also, not for nothing, but they are very unsafe if you read the Google reviews. No ventilation, for one. Stay far farrr away from this place. read more

Be careful parking in this garage. We parked for only 2.5 hours and got our car broken into by getting our window smashed. They took our personal belongings and the security guard working claimed there are very few cameras in the garage and said there was nothing he could do. Easy to park there, I felt very safe there, and so close to most of Bostons must see places or at least where you can get access to tours that hit them all. Be aware, if you drive a lifted vehicle, you might not fit in this garage. I witnessed a pick up truck that did find that out. read more

Great garage for monthly spot rental! GREAT location - close to Arlington and Boylston T stops, walking distance to Beacon Hills, parts of Newbury, and the best Boston Parks. Never had any problems with my car being broken into or scratched/dinged. Very easy to drive out of the garage and be out of the main city quickly for people not as comfortable driving in the city (understandable with the drivers and road layouts). Secure entrance with a monthly keyfob given to monthly parkers, EZ pass to register entrance and open gate. Access to your car 24/7 and can have unlimited in/out of garage. Staff was responsive to questions, process was really easy. (Ps. If you park your car here and have a bad memory I recommend taking pictures of the pole marker closest to your car location, especially if you might go weeks without going to your car at times like I did when I was staying in the city) read more

I have had good experience with this large and convenient garage in the past. However, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, my wife made and paid for an on-line reservation that "entitles you to the use of one parking space during the times listed on your receipt." When she got to the garage, it was full, and it did not honor her reservation. An attendant told her that she could ask for a refund because "this happens all the time." She spent time and more money and frustration finding another place to park. The process of asking for a refund is not at all clear either. Just be warned. read more

Scam!scam!scam! Me and my partner parked here and went out of the tremont exit on Sunday, February 25th at around 1pm with our ticket in our pocket (should've taken a picture of it - big mistake) when we returned to the tremont entry, we paid with one of the machines next to the door. It took our ticket, we paid the 14 dollars with Apple Pay (the payment went through on our end) and then it said it was processing and then - nothing. The machine shut down and rebooted without giving us back our ticket or a receipt. We called the intercom on the machine and the guy said to come to the office to get out. So we went to the office to explain the situation and the guy tried to gas light us like it was our fault (it is not our fault that their machine shut down and restarted while our payment was processing, it is not our fault that it didn't give us back our ticket or a receipt) and that the payment didn't go through on their end but we showed him the Apple Pay statement and the bank statement as well at the exact time it happened and the 14 dollars are posted on both statements. And then Mr. Gaslighter said "oh that machine should'nt have taken Apple Pay blah blah blah" like sir, it has the obvious tap option on the machine of course it takes Apple pay. After all that, he said he would let us through but he would take down my cars license plate number (which I don't like at all) if the payment gets cancelled but why would it get cancelled? that doesn't make any sense. We wouldn't call up the bank and cancel the payment and why would you...? They are practically calling us liars to our faces. There's cameras in that entry and exit way, they could literally look up our transaction and see what happened. Absolutely dumbfounded. If your planning on driving into the city. This is the most ideal place to park. It is fairly inexpensive and easy to reserve parking from the app. It's directly under the Boston common and there is usually spots available no matter the time. When faced with having to drive into Boston, my first concern is parking. Fortunately, the Boston Common Garage is a convenient, easy-to-utilize parking area near to many attractions. Located underground... under the Boston Common... I am often met with the confusion of those who were unaware it was there. "There's parking under the common?!" Most GPS's don't recognize Zero Charles Street as an address, but as long as you get to the general vicinity of this address, the entrance to the garage is pretty obvious. My most recent trip was for a concert at the Orpheum Theater... within walking distance to the garage. The garage is well-lit, clean, and quite spacious. At 1,350 parking spaces, I have never had a problem finding a space. Remember to take your ticket with you, the entrances to the garage are accessible at all hours of the day by swiping it. Also of note... there are several huts that allow you access to the garage... drop a pin on your map so you know which one to enter. After a couple of hours, they all look the same and it is very easy to lose your car in these spacious facilities. You pay at the kiosks in the huts prior to leaving. Everything is well-marked, exits, floor numbers, etc. Rates are pretty reasonable. I parked on a Thursday night for 7+ hours and it only cost me $18. I was expecting upwards of $28 according to the sign on entering but there must have been a deal going on based on the time I entered. Avoid this place at all cost. I paid for discounted parking which covered cost for 12 hours honoring Boston opera House same day patrons. Exiting you are charged 10-30 dollars extra. I stayed in Boston 2 hours. I was charged a fee to exit 20.00. The staff shakes their heads and says just pay. One was dancing. Why would anyone pay ahead of time to enter but not exit. I felt taken advantage of and I'm sure the families in front were just as puzzled. It took 20 mins to check out. read more

Parking in Boston can be hard - but the Boston Common Garage makes it much easier. For weekday evening events in Boston, I park here because there's a $12 rate for parking after 4 PM and exiting before 8 AM. Other garages in Boston are nowhere near as reasonable with their rates. Also, when I attend events at the College Club of Boston on Comm Ave, the rate gets even better because they will validate your ticket to reduce the rate to only $6.50! The garage is open 24 hours and very well lit. I've never had a problem returning to my car at night and feeling unsafe. The walking exit right next to the public garden entrance is very convenient. There is also a weekend rate of $12 when you park after 6 a.m. and exit by 8 a.m. the next morning. So if you have little kid relatives that are too little to stay calm on a MBTA ride, but would be able to ride the swan boats with no problems, driving in and parking at the Boston Common Garage may be your best bet. read more

Update: the garage is now telling us we can't use our car for the bulk of the weekend so to attend family events in the suburbs I'll have to either rent a car or pay $150 to park my car for fri- Sunday elsewhere. Also this coming Thursday we can't get the cars back in until after 10 PM!!! They don't respond to emails, messages, phone calls and send you away in person. They sold me a service I can't use!!! Thursday I have to either stay in my office until 10 PM OR pay for a parking spot AGAIN! I'm disgusted!!! I hope this message saves one person from having their car(s) held hostage. We have two cars at the garage which we will be taking elsewhere. I'll be urging others to do the same. My family members will also be moving their cars in July to the govt center garage. The staff should be trained to resolve these issues We should not have to pay for the month of June for our two cars if we can't even use the garage! Honestly, it amazes me people can be so unintelligent. We pay $300/month to park and on occasion they literally hold your car hostage. You can't exit or enter the garage. Even worse, they tell you you'll be able renter the garage and then don't let you. You call to complain, obviously upset and they laugh and say there's nothing they can do. They should be offering to reimburse me for my other garage I'll now have to use. Also I've had damage to my new car because of the rat infestation in the garage...ITS BAD. Highly recommended for visitors. We attended a Saturday event at Fenway and wanted to avoid the nightmare of overpriced and sparse parking near the ballpark. I used to live in Boston/Cambridge, and think $18 is a bargain: on a Saturday, 2-hour max street meters run until 8pm, and many Many MANY! spaces are resident-only thereafter; and parking garages/lots right on top of the Park run around $50, and the competition both in and out is fierce. And, big perk: it's just a 15 minute T ride from Boston Common Garage to Fenway. Easy to enter and leave the garage, it's open 24 hours a day, it's well-lit and has elevators, and it's literally minutes to the T. When you walk out of the garage you're literally right between the Common and the Public Gardens, and the sights of Tremont St., Theatre District etc are steps away. TIP: Don't forget to take the parking ticket you're issued upon entering with you when you leave. It's your door key for when you return! PS I didn't investigate closely, but there seemed to be equipment available for battery-jumps and maybe even refueling??? read more

The lock on the entrance at Charles St has been broken for months. Since Jan the Charles St elevator is being repaired until April 26. Fearing for my safety using the stairwell today I pushed the red emergency button on each floor got no reply. When I got to top I called. Office put me thru to Security who told me" We did not get any calls( Emergency Bottons we're not being answered) Tonite I called the sSecurity Supervisor who informed me after I told of my conerns that earlier the person was on bathroom break! Imagine my frustration. We are living in a time when just this week 4 murders have happened and a kidnapping of an adult and they are telling me the security system is waiting for " parts" to fix the lock on the door and apparently they don't answer the Emergency Call buttons. Awful place, I would leave ZERO stars if possible. My cars battery died after 1am and the guy at the office was completely useless, he was dozing off in the back of a dark room, said he didn't have jumper cables, I said I did, then he says he actually doesn't have a car. Hmm kind of strange that he wouldn't have mentioned that first don't you think??? I ask if one of the security can help me and he says 'maybe' but that he has no way of contacting them for me. Wow thanks so much! such wonderful customer service right? What do you even pay this guy for? We find a security guard who also says he doesn't have cables but when I say I have cables he suddenly doesn't have a car. Wooow. Such helpful staff member. So basically I was told 'SUCKS TO BE YOU' and was stuck waiting around for hours waiting for help. After NO one came through the garage we had to go out seeking help from strangers outside. Thank GOD we found someone outside that was willing to come inside the garage and jumpstart my car or else we would probably still be there waiting!!! God forbid an establishment trains their staff on how to handle emergency situations, right???? read more

The prospect of $11 for all day parking on Sunday sounded great. You take your ticket than when your ready to leave you pay at a kiosk upstairs. That was fine, my friend and I took our tickets, paid and then went down to the parking. We had not seen each other and a while and were catching up. When we went to drive out, we were charged an additional $8 dollars!!!!!! Because they said we were talking in garage for over a half hour. It should have just been a flat rate of $11 for the day, no wierd charges because you didn't drive out right after you paid. I am very displeased. read more

"Clean, reasonably priced (depends on when you go), and staffed garage in the middle of a busy city" Here's my story... I've got plans to see a midnight premiere with a really pretty girl. The movie is set to end far past the time that the bus and subways end. I want to make a good impression, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg to park in Boston NOR do I want to spend 30 minutes finding parking on the street. Lo! and behold, I found the Boston Common Garage. I paid $12 after 4:00pm and I could honestly say for the convenience, and stress free memories I made that night, it was well worth the price. It was clean, there were staff (I can't say if they were trained, I didn't ask to see their certificates...), and my baby (the car, not the girl) was still looking good when I came back at 3:00am for her. I highly recommend this park if you need to spend a night in Boston near the commons and need to drive into the city. I would say that this night was a success and I have another date in two weeks. read more

If someone was looking to park downtown, I would instantly recommend the underground garage at The Common. Night and weekend rates are a flat $10 - best you'll get in downtown Boston. And if you're not close to your destination, it shouldn't matter as you'll be centrally located (take the T or burn off the dinner you'll be feasting on and walk). My only real criticism is that I get spooked at night whenever I have to walk through the common to take the elevator down to the parking levels - but that's because I have an irrational fear of zombies and assume anything that moves at night will eat my flesh. read more

They've recently installed a payment kiosk in the little vestibule before you head down the stairs to your car and I'm not a fan. The other night when leaving a show at the Colonial we got stuck in a line 10 people deep to pay for parking. Not something any of us were thrilled about, though we all commiserated over it and laughed it off. What I don't like though is that for someone leaving here alone very late at night, it doesn't seem like the safest thing to be whipping out one's wallet in the well-lit vestibule for the world to see. I believe you actually need to insert your ticket to open the door to the garage, but still, it just doesn't seem 100% safe, though I suppose this new feature lessens the odds of unsavory characters lurking in the garage. Anyway, I just much preferred paying the live attendant on the way out. Update 4/10/11: I received a message from Boston Common Garage addressing my recent review update and felt it prudent to share his comments. "The Boston Common Garage is under 24/7 surveillance from Public Safety staff and cameras and all Kiosks have internal and external cameras that monitor their use. There are also speaker phones at each Kiosk and throughout the garage which connect directly with MCCA Public Safety. To accomodate for the bars, nightclubs, and late shows that make up a lot of our weekend parking, we have added additional overnight patrols of the garage Thursday through Saturday nights. We continue to work with Boston Police Department and Department of Conservation & Recreation Park Rangers to enhance security at the garage and throughout Boston Common." read more

Best parking deal in Boston. Pulled in on Saturday AM at 8AM, Pulled out Sunday at 1PM and it only cost $24. Clean, and large aisles make it easier to maneuver than most parking garages in the city. I did take a picture of what 'hut' I came out of, since there a handful all over the common it's important to remember which one to go back in to to have hope of finding your car. read more

Thinking of parking your car here on a rainy day? Don't do it unless you're prepared to emerge from underground and immediately dash out into the weather no matter the intensity of rain, thunder or lightning. We attempted to wait out a slackening in this morning's deluge in the shelter of one of the garage's head houses and after about 4 minutes a weenie rent-a-cop informed us we were creating a security concern and had to move on. Really? Is this what our post 911 life has become?? I'm no CSI expert, but isn't profiling behavior part of crime detection and prevention? I'm fascinated that a total of 3 persons in a head house become a security concern in less than 5 minutes when one's behavior clearly indicates one wishes to leave a dry space for one outside which is not in full downpour and electrical storm. This is THE place to park over the weekend! You can park on a Saturday and stay overnight until Sunday for a grand total of $11.00 Compared to the rates you will get across the park on Newbury, this is just insanely cheap! It is super dirty though and the stairwells scare me a lot. read more

Whoa ho ho, let me tell you what I forgot to look into before traveling to Boston- PARKING COSTS. This was the cheapest lot we could find, and I think it was $32 a day to park here. $32 A DAY. That is insane. The fact that it wasn't cheaper in any of the smaller crowded lots made me feel slightly better about parking here. It's definitely a nice enough lot- under the Common, with three floors and elevator service. You find yourself coming out of the earth and right onto the common. Pleasant. But seriously, $32. If you're not time constrained, willing to hunt around, willing to walk a little if necessary, and have some coins (if it's not yet time for the free meters), you might find a good spot and save some money on a nearby street. Otherwise, the commons is always a good back-up plan. You don't have to worry about whether a street parking garage closes at midnight or if you have to pay extra overnight. You might pay a bit more on average, but it's often worth it. And you get a chance to stroll through some of the Commons on your way out and back. read more

IMO: the best lot in the city. Well-lit and secure; you have to swipe your parking pass to gain access to the garage late at night, so I feel a little more at ease (for my car as well as for my own security). Reasonable price (11$ for the night after 7pm) and plenty of space. People are pretty respectful in this lot and it's location is ideal (after you find the entrance...): just below Boston Common and Frog Pond, near the Lowes cinema, near Boylston and Newbury Street as well as Government Center/Faneuil Hall and Downtown Crossing. Easy to get to, easy to pay, easy to leave the city. read more
