I thought I would be able to get a better quality home, especially since the company is considered a Diamond Builder. He rushed to start the building having not replied to all my questions and thereby shorted me on some options. He does not "speak" with you, does everything by email. None of the employees are (given responsibility) able to answer any of your serious questions, they must send the question to Mr. Shoopman and wait for his email response. There are very few actual employees. Most everyone is sub-contracted. Imagine your builder not knowing how something as important as the plumbing is run in your home and telling you to contact the sub-contractor directly. I have never had to do this with any previous normal builder. There are numerous defects under warranty. He did not even complete my closing punch list. Worst of all, he installed inferior shingles on my home, 3-tab with a 65mph wind rating versus dimensional shingles with a 135mph wind rating. I have lost several shingle tabs 6 times since closing. Yes, they got replaced under his warranty which is a 2-10.com warranty. But at 2.5 months after closing, one wind exceeded 65mph and he has completely voided my roof warranty. So much for my 2-10. They concur with his prerogative to void the warranty. Two roofers and my insurance adjuster have found the roof to be a total loss due to wind damage. I am now paying to replace the entire roof. Now we are fighting over a crack in the driveway. He sends me an email to say that there is no warranty on concrete and includes a document that clearly states that the builder is responsible if the crack is wider than 1/4" or 3/16" vertically. I could go on but have to close this somewhere. I have opened cases with BBB (waste of time), BAGI (waste of time), and the Attorney General's offices (still waiting). I will post all the negative reviews I possibly can to warn others. Please learn from my poor experience and stay clear of Shoopman Homes. And if a certain realty company (SEARS) says otherwise avoid them, too. They failed me also in this project. I forgot that on 2/21/2017 I posted the following: If I could give negative stars, I would. They may be good builders, but it is difficult to know. The process they put the customer through is impossible. There are approximately 3 to 5 employees in this company. They contract everyone else. They do not have a super to oversee construction, the owner does this -- or tries to do this all himself. I was unable to even communicate in person with the owner until closing. All communication is conducted by email. Even to ask a simple question. They can't even tell you where something they should know about, such as where the water lines come from or go to, such as which way a door should swing open, and so forth. Instead, they make you speak with their subcontractors directly. Whoever heard of such a process? This indicates that the builder is not in charge of all aspects of building your home. And the sub may or may not always answer their phone. If they do you end up dealing with the sub instead of the builder. Most builders go through a house thoroughly to ensure you find nothing at closing. This company requires you to find everything yourself, all their problems! Numerous problems in the paint, the drywall, caulking, the gaps in outside doors, dent in the garage door, spilled paint, damaged trim/baseboards, nail pops, etc. Including the dirt/debris they left behind. They give you only 2 days prior to closing to go through the house and, in my case, did not complete all the closing items. Like a fool, based on a promise, I closed and now I am left to get these corrected myself

The structure was painted when first installed and paint was reapplied the second year. We were getting ready to paint this year when we noticed the rotting wood. The paint application looked good but just wanted to apply a new coat. I have made several attempts to contact this company and have received no response. I was told by a former salesperson for this company that this is typical for this company. I strongly encourage you not to buy your pergolas from this company. They do n ot stand behind their work and their products are inferior. The wood they use is air dried not kiln dried and that makes a big difference. WOW, like 75% NOT covered by the practice exams. Just the start. Went back and did not focus on the tests as much (as they are virtually useless as they do not cover most of the exam) and did the sections again trying to focus on the questions that were on the exam and not on practice tests. Had to manually go back page by page to do this. With some being almost 100 pages, I used their live chat to see if I was just missing the way to start it over. No response. Said to click submit to get an email response, but there was not submit button? Tried again later in the afternoon, same. Tried again a day later with that and an additional question/comment, still NO RESPONSE. I am not being hyperbolic by saying I tried to use their "Live Chat" 8+ times over multiple days and NEVER got a response by chat or email. Study guide and customer service is TERRIBLE. Do not waste your money as I did.

I searched Yelp for highly rated vendors and found my way to ERMCO, Inc. (an employee owned company by the way). My contact at ERMCO is Chris Keely and he went above and beyond any reasonable service expectation. He not only educated me on the process, the preferred fixtures, his Company's pricing and service strategy, but also explained the expected electricity savings. For me, understanding the ROI/pay-back period was a key decision point to go ahead with the project. Chris took a very practical "owner" perspective to the project. I felt like I was working with a partner, not a vendor who was squeezing as much profit out of the project as he could. Rather, he took the longer view of a relationship over time and explained their pricing and material costs without any pressure. Lastly, Chris stayed involved from the first phone call to completion of the project which made life so much easier. If you are looking for an electrical expert, do yourself a favor and call ERMCO.

Beware the falsely inflated review on this organization. Those good reviews are mostly from…read moreinvestor/owners, not from tenants. Had this landlord for 2 years. Just signed a new lease with them on a new property and immediately regret it. None of the maintenance was done in advance despite having made us wait extra time for them to complete it. The unit was filthy when we moved in. Mold, floors and walls caked in dirt, zero cleaning in the bathroom, grout and caulk missing, disgustingly dirty bathtub, splattered filth on walls of the basement as well as more mold. Broken items around the house, missing smoke alarms, no access to some areas like the garage. We had to rent costly cleaning equipment to scrape the filth off the place and had to pay laundromat costs because the washer that came with the place never worked and they took a month to fix it. We met the neighbors and apparently they experienced the exact same thing when they moved in a month earlier. They are also return tenants and regret it. This is apparently how they treat good tenants. It's no wonder no one stays with them. After all of this, they had the audacity to charge us an additional full months worth of 'service' fee for 2 days we had access in February when they did absolutely *nothing* during that time. When I pointed this out, they offered me a gift card to make up for all the costs and problems we had. What did they send? Some amazon cards. Are you serious? I had to pay hundreds of extra dollars because of the lack of maintenance and they give us some stupid website card? Just don't bother if you're going to send something worthless. That was really unprofessional and insulting. --------------------------------------- Our last rental from them ---------------------------------------- At the last place we rented from them, it was sold in the middle of our lease. We spent 8 months of the lease having our privacy constantly violated and disrupted by showings. We were harassed at all hours by the realtor by text. It was so bad we had to report him. Buyers showed up to view the home unannounced, constant illegal lack of notice for showings despite promising they would stop. Realtor was totally absent. Didn't even view the property until 3 months in. He never came to show the home, made us do his job, then tried to coerce us to lie about the property during those showings to mislead buyers about known damage. When we wouldn't, he complained to T&H and they retaliated against us by barring us from our rental during showings. This is normally illegal but there is no one to stop them. This used to be a decent company to rent from but they have gotten terrible. Correspondence is non-existent and they have to be dragged kicking and screaming to do maintenance. Renter beware!
