The Borstplaat or Breastplate is one of those Amsterdam things that makes this city unique. Placed anonymously by the artist in the middle of the night. After it was removed by the city because it did not have permission, the artist was somehow able to come to an agreement with the city and it has been replaced.
Located near the entrance to the Oudekerk ("Old Church") it is close to the famous red light district and is among the cobblestones. If the church were a clock, the sculpture is near where 7:00 is on the dial.
Yes, it is quite literally a hand caressing a breast and likely an homage to the many sex workers of Amsterdam. Like the peeing boy of Brussels or the mermaid of Copenhagen or the Juliet of Munich or the Charging Bull of New York, this is the Boob of Amsterdam and you shouldn't miss it. Though I would recommend not *actually* touching it.
