Wow, talk about a delicious homemade Russian delight! We cycled from Christina Lake on the Columbia Western Trail to Grand Forks for lunch and filled ourselves with delicious dumplings! So fresh and beautifully presented with fresh raspberry juice. A wonderful reward after cycling! They do have take out and their borscht and sourdough bread was authentically delicious!

Excellent service along tasty and filling food. The borscht is amazing here. Found it a little pricey at 9 bucks each regular size bowl but it's still worth it. Great lunch option

Solid Doukhobor food, which means plain and tasty and filling. Worth stopping for in Grand Forks, as are the cookies and pastries at the bakery across the street.

Always stop here for the borscht. It's very hood but pricey at $16 for a large bowl with bread. Has the soup and vereniki special for $27 do you get two very large petogies with the soup. It was delicious and i had to take some home. Yes it's expensive but authentic home made food ! read more

I visited the Borscht Bowl today while up in Grand Forks on a family trip. We were looking for Russian food and it was one of the only places we could find that was open on the weekend. The perogies were very good, different than the ones we make at home because they are quite large and a full order comes with 3 of them. They have two fillings you can choose from, potato or cottage cheese and they come served with butter and sour cream. 3 perogies with a side salad costs about $10. They also had excellent borscht which comes in three sizes ($5-$7), served with bread and butter. They also have a sandwich and mexican menu in case you happen to be with someone who doesn't want Russian. The interior decor has some russian accents like matroushka's and a samovar, but its mostly mismatched and in a way reminded me of my Grandma's kitchen. They are open everyday from 10-4pm. read more
My mother and step dad recommended this place to me years ago. So whenever i get the chance when I'm in Grand forks, I will come and indulge on some buttery potato carbs. It's usually once a year, but that is good enough for me. The food isn't diabetic friendly but it is worth the shot of sinful carbs to be able to eat this. Piroshki's and borscht. My kids love it too! This is probably true staple food for Grandforkians and when I say that. I mean it by the name of the town and the name of the restaurant. You can put a Grand Fork in the old Borscht Bowl but you can't take the Borscht Bowl out of a Grand Fork. read more

Every time I am in Grand Forks I stop here. The food is awesome. Sure the bathroom and building are a little weird but the borscht and vorenikki are amazing. I always like to grab some borscht to go as well. read more

All the Russian food is so awesome...Borscht is authentic as it gets as nobody but these gals dice and cut to such a precise size for taste...topping it off with real Doukhobor raspberry juice...Shelly rocks the front end and a true gem of a personality...if ya want an original GF experience then this is the place. read more

A gem out in the middle of no where. Fresh bread, borscht and pyrahi. The interior is stab but service is friendly.

Great food. Lots of genuine happiness flowing from the staff. I really liked the borscht and the dumplings. Anytime I have the chance to be a repeat customer will be a great day. A great place, fine people and very tasty food. read more

We accidentally stumbled into the Borscht Bowl and had the best meal on our 2,000 mile swing through the Pacific NW, BC, and Alberta. The buttermilk dough voreniki with cheese filling were incredible. The pyrahi - we had both beet-filled and spinach and feta-filled - were fabulous. I loved the borscht with fresh dill and fresh-baked buttered bread. My partner had the raspberry juice drink, which he loved. This was a delightful lunch. Can't recommend it highly enough. read more

We wanted to experience some of the food that comes with Grand Forks' Russian heritage so the Borscht Bowl was the obvious choice. While it looks much like your average diner the friendly staff inside serve an excellent borscht. We also ordered two Pyrahi (like big doughy Perogies) and two Vareniki. These were stuffed with potato and cheese. Basically these two dishes comprise a lot of dough and potato smothered in melted butter. Very tasty and filling, but probably not the best for the diet conscious! Next time we'll share one of each between the two of us and have a bowl or borscht each. If you're passing through Grand Forks and want to taste the Russian influence pull off the highway and check this place out. A few blocks west of the Borscht Bowl is the town's City Hall, which was originally the Post Office. It's worth strolling over after lunch to check it out. read more

Not sure what constitutes good service in Grand Forks because I haven't seen it in this or some of the other restaurants. Maybe you have to have been born here to get good service. I walked in and stood and waited. After a few minutes a lady walked up to me, shoved a menu at me, snarled 'sit where you want', then turned and walked away while I was asking her a question. Needless to say, I left without sitting anywhere. read more

Horrible service Experience. Ignored upon entry, order wrong, no cutlery delivered with food and could not flag down any of the three servers to get any. Ordered more bread and that didn't come. The locals were clearly treated better. Just a really bad experience for very expensive food. read more
