This was one of our favorite parts of our Barcelona trip. Chef Alex was entertaining, informative, and funny. We had a great time. Not to mention, we got to cook paella and it was the best paella we had during our entire trip. The unlimited booze was also a great touch. We highly recommend this cooking class. So much fun!

Born to cook is a great experience - we went their with our team and learned how to cook and enjoy different paellas in no time while tasting a variety of cavas and just having a great time with chef Alex and his amazing team members. If you want to spend a unique evening or day in Barcelona (as they will take you as well to the market to buy all the ingredients), 'born to cook' is the place to go even if you are just two or three couples seeking a unique experience and for sure for any company wanting to have a unique team experience. A true place to recommend and... in one of the original residences of Christopher Columbus

A wonderful time was had by all in Juan's class. There were 12 total in our group, with 4 kids and…read more8 adults. We started off on a 45 minute tour of the market, familiarizing us with the market layout and history. We had a small ham tasting as well with Serrano vs Iberian ham. The prep was done in various stages with the kids actively preparing the five dishes- gazpacho, tomato garlic toast, Spanish omelette, seafood paella and crème brûlée. There was plenty of white and red wine as well. The experience was not only fun but the people I met were lovely.

The Barcelona Cooking experience consistently landed on lists of things to do and was highly recommend. It wasn't an outrageous cost, booking was simple, and communication was great. We opted for the 4 hour paella cooking class and it was outstanding. The class included a trip to Mercat La Boqueria to shop for the ingredients of our Paella. Our instructor was wonderful in explaining the market and chatting with the vendors. It was like a mini tour within our scheduled class. The class itself was marvelous. We made gazpacho, tortilla espanola, tomato bread, creama catalana, of course the star, paella. We had 12 in our class and everyone had their job in meal preparation and plating. It was a perfect size and the instructor was able to keep us engaged and shift between is to ensure we were staying on task. This is also a very kid friendly event and we had two younger children in a our class and they were great. The meal was wonderful and the wine wine was pouring. Highly recommend class and they even email you the recipes the following day.

I had a master class in Catalan cuisine with Anna and Nuria, the mother and daughter team behind Canela Fina. I am a retired cooking teacher with years of experience in restaurants and kitchen. I arranged for a private cooking class with Anna and Nuria followed by lunch with my 3 travel companions. The entire experience was perfect. When I arrived they greeted me warmly and the mise en place covered the whole cooking surface. During the 3 hours of cooking I learned how to make the best Sofrito, fish and meat stocks, and Romesco. With these things you can begin to understand Catalan cuisine. The class began with creating our dessert (Crema Catalana), and our starter (Strawberry Gazpacho). In between we made escalivada (for Canalone with Tuna), escabeche (with Pickled Blue Fish), Monkfish with Artichokes, Squid with Pork Jowl, and Beef with Mushrooms and Romesco. Yes, we prepared all that! Throughout I asked many questions and was given expert information. When my friends showed up they were treated to as fine a meal as we could get in a Michelin starred restaurant. They oohed and ahhed their way through the meal which was exquisitely plated and paired with wine. At the end we all branded our own crema catalana and then sadly took our leave. I recommend this school for trained chefs, traveling families, foodies of all kinds, and for those who just want to experience the warmth, generosity, and beauty of Catalan culture.
