Day one: We started out by flying to Vancouver for our first day. Fresh Tracks booked us into the Fairmount at the Airport. It is super convenient being inside the airport. A very kind porter took us thru customs and to our hotel. Next morning we had breakfast and went down to the airport for our flight to Whitehorse. Day two: We were picked up by Northern Tales and taken to the BestWestern Goldrush hotel. There we got our rental clothing and our rooms. That night we had our first attempt to see the Northern Lights. Day three: we were taken on a City tour then to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve where we saw Caribou , Mule Deer, Mountain Goats, Moose, and Bison. After the Preserve a short drive to Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs. My husband and mother in law enjoys the hot springs more than I did. I expected bigger deeper pools. That night another attempt to view the Northern Lights. Day four: We were taken to the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation for Husky Rush. We were taken dog sledding by an expert and team of dogs. It was amazing. The dogs were super excited and making lots of noise up till they started moving. Then they were completely quiet. We traveled across frozen lakes and thru wooded areas on trails. After we were around a fire eating Bison Sausages and drinking hot tea. In the evening we had our third attempt to see the Northern Lights. Day five: we had snowmobiling. I have been on a snowmobile but it was decades ago. My husband and mother in law had never been on one. We all got great instructions before we started out. One guide in front and one in back. We stopped about half way for hot chocolate and a cookie and photos. Then our trip back over frozen lakes and thru wooded trails. That night our last attempt to see the Northern Lights. Day six: The next morning was our flight back to Vancouver. We were picked up and taken to our hotel. We stay the night in the Pan Pacific Hotel. A very nice hotel in the heart of Vancouver. Day seven: Next morning we were picked up and taken to the airport for our flight home. All pickups and drop-offs planned by Fresh Tracks. We had zero issues and had a wonderful time even though we didn't get to see the Northern Lights. It was just too cloudy. We had a blast and dog sledding and snowmobiling. Everyone we dealt with were super friendly, personable and professional. We'd recommend Northern Tales to anyone.

He even stops at a lagoon if you want to jump in for a swim! Captain Ken is a local so he knows all the cool stuff to see. It's small groups only so you don't get lost in the crowd. The day was dry, clear, but blustery and our ship was the only cruise ship scheduled in port that day, normally 3 to 4 cruise ships are docked each morning for the day. The train accessed a rail spur allowing boarding near the ship, but the terminal in town is not a long distance if lacking mobility issues. Each car has outside viewing areas, and clean bathrooms, but unlike the staff, guests are not allowed to move between cars. If you spy an issue with your fellow rail car guests upon boarding like small screaming children I would change cars quickly after boarding. Even though water was provided with my fare I would suggest packing water jugs or bottles, and some nibbles ( I packed some yummy freshly baked cookies from a lounge on my ship) for the 3 hour ride, inexpensive snack boxes were sold on the return trip from the summit as were White Pass & Yukon Route ball caps for $15. Windows are large, but if you want the river view as you ascend the 20 mile climb to the summit then sit on the left side, when returning the right side faces the chasm. Ascending and Descending you should pass several White Pass Rail Trains so wave at your fellow tourists. Overall a nice experience for me, with great views. This is a seasonal experience that mirrors the Alaska cruise season, and it takes weeks to prepare the rail for each season.

Beautiful and Historic Ride, Worth the Experience! I have to…read moreadmit, I started this experience feeling a little stressed. We were sailing on the Star Princess and needed to be back on the ship by 4:30 PM, but our White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad train was supposed to arrive at 1:00 and didn't actually arrive until 1:25. Since it's about a three-hour ride, I was worried we might not make it back in time for sail away. Thankfully, we did make it back on time! As soon as we got on the train, though, I was able to relax and really enjoy the experience. It truly felt like stepping back in time. The narration throughout the ride was fantastic and filled with fascinating historical facts. I had no idea how many people once hiked that route or how grateful everyone was when the railroad was finally built. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and the whole experience was unforgettable. One funny note: I've flown on planes and cruised on ships without ever getting motion sickness, but somehow I ended up getting train sick! The constant back-and-forth movement got to me, even though everyone else seemed completely fine. That was just me and definitely not the railroad's fault. Overall, this was such a unique and amazing experience, and I'm really glad we did it. If you're visiting Skagway, I would absolutely recommend the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad!

We initially thought it was just a lunch stop but in addition to lunch there is a petting zoo, dog sleds, gold panning, two museums and a gift store. Lunch options were chicken bbq or curry. The curry was essentially lentils served atop rice. Coleslaw, roasted potato, fresh bread and donuts were included on the plate as well. After getting a heaped serving, I was trying to find my way to a table when a woman welcomed me to Yukon and asked if she could help in anyway. She had the most pleasant demeanor and rustic country charm and immediately made me feel welcome and at home! I am assuming she is one of the owners or managers of that place. Anyway, after being spoilt by some excellent cruise food, I was surprised I enjoyed this simple meal so much! The chicken was delicious all the way through. But, they definitely don't know how to cook rice, lol! It was hard and uncooked, the lentils were ok. Next stop was the taxidermy museum. It was stunning with several varieties of animals. There was a mammoth as well (this was obviously not a taxidermy). Not just the kids, I had fun exploring this museum as well. Outside there is a goat petting zoo which had the most obnoxious stench, I could barely tolerate it. But the place also had some alpacas which looked adorable. We didn't do the dog sleds but visited the dogs and they just wouldn't stop barking!! We spotted some goats on the hillside behind and were amazed by how aptly they were positioned. After observing them for 10 minutes we realized they were fake! lol. Place is not perfect but it gave us a taste of the Yukon country side experience and we enjoyed it.

My coworkers…read moreand i decided that we needed to do some dogsledding so we started our hunt for the different places we could go and the best value. We decided on Sky High Wilderness Ranch and we were not disappointed. The area is absolutely stunning and the location is very close to downtown Whitehorse which made it a breeze to get there and to get back to the hotel while tired and hungry. We arrived without a hitch and were greeted with big smile and enthusiastic personalities. One lady helped us, she was originally from Brussels, and she was great. She got us all fitted into our snow gear and made sure we were warm and well protected from the elements. We were then greeted by a curious little dog that they let walk around freely and she was an absolute doll. She was very friendly and very playful. Once we walked to where all the dogs are, we were in awe at the amount of dogs and how beautiful they all were. They have around 150 dogs here and they are all named and well taken care of. We were introduced to our guide, I think his name was Steve (I don't remember), and he was such a nice guy. He knew all the dogs' names by heart and their personalities. He was very thorough with his explanation of what we would be doing and the code of conduct that we would need to uphold when out in the sleds. Very knowledgeable and very personable. The dogs were all beautiful and I wanted to take them all home with me, but unfortunately, airlines probably wouldn't allow that. We went off into the Yukon wilderness on our own sleds following Steve and we had the greatest time of our lives. You get to go over the frozen lake and through winding paths through the forested areas. It was like a dream. After our ride, we were able to go around to all the dogs and meet them and pet them and ask Steve any questions we had about the ranch or the Yukon. After meeting all the dogs, we enjoyed some complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and water in a hut that they have set up with couches, chairs and a wood burning furnace. All in all, Sky High Wilderness have us an experience of a lifetime and I highly recommend coming here if you would like to be treated not just like a tourist, but also as a family member. We had an all day private tour with Mo and could not have asked for anything more from our day. She was an exceptional driver, narrator, story teller and host, plus she gave us great tips on where to eat in Carcross. She even got us to Carcross before the train and the crowds arrived. We have done the train ride on a prior trip and it was great, but this was sooo much better and more personable.
