Dang bud! Some of these reviews are HARSH. If you want the Ritz but are balling on a budget, you are better off going into Truckee or slipping down to South Shore. The facts: Boreal is the closest resort and opens 1st ALWAYS. The lodge is old yes but it is a roof over your head and a bed under your bum. I went up here with 2 friends over NYE 2013-2014 this past year and we knew exactly what to expect. That is why we drank hella in the room, passed out, then woke up and rode. Sure it is old fashioned but the fact is this: you did not spend over $200 per night per guest, you got to ride their mountain, and you made it home with out having to give up your 1st born child. Too many 1 star reviews for the reality that this place is: an older ski lodge next to a small mountain. what did you expect? If they renovate the prices are going to be in the upwards of $250-350 per night and that wont fly. read more

It's like a motel 6 but in the snow. You're paying for the convenience of the location. I stayed in their "premium" room...which means it was remodeled. It had two queen beds with no bed skirts, no artwork on the walls, a colored accent wall, a fiberglass 1980's beige tub/ shower, new linoleum, a new granite window sill and a 13" television in an armoire. The TV is an old tube tv with no auxillary hook-ups. They do have a full selection of cable channels. The room was very clean but they used cheap ikea style lamps on the corner table and the night stand. The only central lighting was in the entry hall. The beds were plush, the linens were good quality, the pillows were soft, each bed had a down comforter & the towels were very soft. I was on the 3rd floor. There are no elevators so you'll get your exercise. They serve a continental breakfast in the lobby but it doesn't look appealing at all. They re-use disposable black plastic table cloths and just set the cereal and muffins out from 8:00-9:30am. They are right next to the day-use snow park, so you can stay parked in their lot and walk to the snow park without having to pay the fee. They also rent sleds for $7 a day to use at the park. NOTE: you can buy the same sled for $10 at any store in the area. The staff was nice and they sell sodas, chips & candy. You can also order pizza's to your room. In all, it was a pleasant experience. I had expected the worst after reading other reviews but I knew going into it that it wasn't the Hilton and more like an older motel. The benefit of staying here was that I was close to all the snow related things I like within two exits on either side of it. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and sorry to say, we weren't pleased with the place. The deal Stay & Ride Free sounded really good, but the room and mountain didn't cut it for us. We reserved the standard room... and that is what you pay for. The room was spacious and we were able to bring all of our gear in and not feel cramped, but it was old, dirty, and looked really rundown. There were cobwebs in the corners of the bathroom doorway! How can you miss that? I don't know what the superior room is like, but heard that it's newly renovated. It took a long time for the heater to kick in, and when it did, there was a smell that lingered and it was hella noisy! The cable was out the whole day on our 2nd day there. Granted it wasn't their fault due to weather conditions, but it didn't help make the room any better. A few good notes...They had a small continental breakfast- mini bagels, coffee, juice, cereal, and some fruits. The room had both a microwave and refrigerator which was helpful. The staff was really pleasant and tried to make the best of it when I kept asking about the tv problem. The place was within walking distance to the mountain resort, but we ended up driving out there since we were lazy and didn't want to carry our gear. After reading the other yelps, I wanted to give Boreal Inn a chance, and unfortunately, it didn't make it to my standards. read more

It certainly has good qualities aside from the fact that it's a 5 minutes walk from the Boreal Ski Resort. Continental breakfast was nothing spectacular but decent enough. $141.90 total for a standard room with two queens complete with cobwebs, a tv that constantly flickers, and paper-thin walls. We arrived to an uncleaned room, no problem, they switched us rooms. New room: remote doesn't work tv constantly flickers. After talking to the lady downstairs, she brings us a new remote. But since we weren't staying two nights all she did was apologize for the staticky flicker. Seriously?! I'd never stay two nights in this place. Pros: It was awesome to get off the slopes and wander our tired bones the short walk back to the Inn. So points for proximity. The room we finally ended up with (more on that in the cons) was clean enough and quite large. The shower was hot and the breakfast was... well, it was there... can't really screw up a couple of oranges and some corn flakes. Cons: Dark, dingy, rather abysmal common areas. Low ceilings, poor lighting, the lobby (if you can call the small dank entry a lobby) certainly doesn't give you any sort of 'welcome' feeling. The receptionist on our arrival put us in one room. We started to unpack and she came a knocking to move us to another room. We went up and walked into an occupied hotel room... so that was awkward. Finally the third room was a winner. The evening receptionist gave us the tubing vouchers that came with our room. Only the tubing guy decided to close early so we didn't get to go. The receptionist said she would re-issue them but when we tried to take her up on the offer (admittedly it was a full day later in our 3 day stay), she refused. She said we'd waited too long. I mean come on Boreal Inn management, a couple of cheap vouchers would have made us so much happier with our stay. As it was we left feeling jipped and grumpy. Horrible service, horrible motel, horrible everything! Before even entering the outside of this place looked so dirty and unsafe. You get to the door and what are you greeted with? A sign that says "NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS. SERIOUSLY." How rude! We get inside and tell them we reserved a room. They asked for a credit card and ID. Nowhere did they say on their website that you must be 21+ to rent a room. The Russian lady starts giving us attitude and said we should've called first. Bitch, we did call AND reserved a room and you didn't tell us anything about 21+. She then kicks us out! WTH? I don't know how the rooms are but their parking lot only had two cars. I was expecting a hell hole based on the prior reviews but this place has a room and bathroom area that is larger than most motel 6 type places I've stayed before. Flat screen tv, a fridge, table and microwave plus breakfast from 7-930. My kids were amazed when they walked in. Bathroom counter and floor are stuck in another decade but are in good condition. This is a motel within walking distance to boreal one way and a sno-park the other way. They have snacks and other items for purchase in the event you came without. They also let you borrow board games. Being the day after Christmas so cool we got a pretty decent room. If you're looking for a hotel/4 or 5 star resort then this isn't the place for you but also know you're not likely to get this close to snow area at an awesome price cuz 80 a night peak season means you're crazy if that's what you're expecting read more

I stayed here with my 5yr old daughter over President's Day wknd (Sunday night). The room was huge, the carpet looked new and they had a ton of cable channels. The hotel is located 8 miles west of Truckee so we just jumped on 80 after skiing, drove 10 minutes and ate dinner. The cons of this place are the walls, very thin. The family that checked in above us could have been throwing bowling balls on the floor and practicing sprints and I would not have been surprised! That being said, I called the front desk and they were very nice about it. All the staff was really nice. Breakfast in the morning was great - all we needed...mini bagels, mini muffins, whole fruit, instant oatmeal, coffee, tea, milk, cream cheese and peanut butter packs... They also have a little store with snacks, sleds, gloves, chapstick, etc...even snow boots! They make pizza as well, in a little pizza oven. We chose to drive into town but the pizza smelled great when we got back! All-in-all, it's not luxury and it's not beautiful but it's a comfortable, clean place to stay. I felt safe with just my daughter and myself and we both had a great time. read more

Wow! We should have read Yelp reviews before booking this one. Their website is super deceiving. Definitely a bait and switch. I have stayed at better Motel 6 hotels for a 3rd of the price. Which says a ton! We chose this hotel because it was close to Woodward. We aren't skiers or snowboarders. We came for our teens to skate at Woodward during spring break. So when we went to the site and noticed there was a hotel right here we booked it. I have no idea where the photos on their site for the rooms came from but we didn't get either of those rooms. And we were in their "superior" room. As others have mentioned the staff is very friendly and willing to take care of issues quickly. But the rooms were not as depicted. They were somewhat clean. It was decent enough not to run but that is about it. The free wifi was non existent. My phone only occasionally detected it and when it did you couldn't actually use it. Our heater didn't work and they had to come show us how to get it to work. Then said if it doesn't work they have space heaters. They don't have cribs but the do have an air mattress for $20 a night if you need an extra bed. Half the lightbulbs are not working. Shower pressure is horrible. Cobwebs, spiders, thins walls, flat pillows, tiny tv, and pink mildew on the shower curtain. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEIR SITE AND PRICE....not worth $150 by any stretch of the imagination. This is the first hotel that I didn't check on Yelp before booking. What a mistake! Upon walking in, I realized it is more of a dingy hostel than an inn or hotel. I agree with other reviews - the pictures on their website are VERY deceiving. Pros: Close to the Bay Area and super close to Boreal Ski Resort. Allows pets if you need to bring them. Room has a microwave and small refrigerator. Flat screen tv works. Cons: upon entering the place, it looks and feels like a dingy hostel. The hallways are DARK and narrow. The room - a Superior room with 2 Queen beds - is sparse with really old furniture. All you need to do is go to Ikea to replace the furniture and blessings (and curtains!) and the rooms would look instantly nicer and cleaner. The beds were made but just didn't look like they were "hotel-made". I had to do a quick bedbug check around the mattresses to make sure all is clear (I truly hope it is!!). True, the room doesn't have a smell, the bathroom fan works, the flat screen tv works. But really the furniture needs updating. And you just feel dirty when you walk in. And as we are sitting on the bed I am starting to itch. I don't know if there are fleas or just my paranoia but I am so glad we don't have to stay more than one night. Even the kids gasped a bit when we walked in. Maybe it's a first world problem and we are used to better, but you know, we do live in a first-world country (though I hate that term), and I do expect better based on the description and pictures on their website. It really does feel like a bait and switch. What I don't understand is from all of the bad reviews, why the Inn hasn't done anything about it yet. It's not like they're charging dirt cheap prices. They're not exhorbitant but for what they charge, they can afford to spruce up the place. I am really not looking forward to sleeping tonight. Really hoping no bugs. UPDATE: 3/28/16, The Morning After So it was fairly quiet during the night though the walls are paper thin and the person coughing next door in the middle of the night sounded like she was in our room. Good news is no one scratched a bunch in the middle of the night and I did not see any bugs. It took a while for the hot shower to run in the shower (I thought at first there would be NO hot water it took so long). The tub drained slowly. Breakfast was in a small room with bagels and sliced bread, 3 kinds of cereal, and oatmeal packets. There was an apple juice and orange juice machine, coffee and a hot chocolate machine and a toaster. There was jam, butter and honey. No water or faucet for water. The sitting area had 3 tables, a lounge chair and a love seat and coffee table. It was pretty dark. It is also the same room as the check in counter. The front desk sells plastic tobaggans ($20) and round sled thingies ($15). The staff were friendly. read more

Note: this review is based on a nine-year-old experience, so some parts may no longer be accurate. We booked two nights at Boreal Inn on a family ski trip back in January 2005. Dad chose this place because it was located fairly close to the major ski resorts, and that the nightly rate wasn't too high compared to that of other nearby hotels. Regrettably, these were the only redeeming qualities of the inn. The first thing we noticed after checking in was that our room looked somewhat dusty - as if it had not been maintained for some time. Upon powering up my laptop, I found out there was no Internet access for guests. The folks at the front desk were nice enough to let us use their connection, but only for a few minutes (to check our e-mails) as it was intended for the hotel staff. Sure, it's nice to be "disconnected" every now and then, especially when you're in the mountains, but the lack of network access could still prove to be an inconvenience for many people. Of course, the above issues could have been forgiven had our stay been comfortable, in which case it was not. As we went to bed later in the evening, the three of us noticed the HVAC unit in our room was quite loud, and none of us were able to sleep very well as a result. To make matters worse, the curtains did a poor job of blocking out the outside lights. In the end, the three of us decided to cancel our second night at Boreal Inn and book another hotel instead. Although the nightly rate was slightly lower than that of nearby hotels, I don't think the savings were worth it. -- TL;DR version -- Highs: Located conveniently close to Boreal Mountain Resort; rates weren't too high Lows: Unclean rooms; no Internet access; noisy HVAC units Bottom line: Steer clear of this place and stay at one of the many better nearby hotels instead. This place was disgusting! At first thought of the building, it looked interesting. You know what? I'm just gonna list down the pros and cons because there is just too much to say. Pros: Right next to the boreal mountain resort. If you rent a room, you get free skii lift tickets. Beds were actually decently comfortable. The person in the front counter was very nice Cons: Very old fashion in a bad way. Hallways are very narrow. It kinda feels like abandon place. Woke up to 2 very large and thick spiders in the room... (One on the ceiling and one under the bedsheets...) There's only a tiny fridge and a microwave. The bathroom fan makes a loud noise. And etc..etc.. If you don't care about room and just glad you have a roof over your head and want free skii lift tickets then this is the place. the reason why this place gets away with a price higher than $60/night is that it's a quarter mile from the ski resort. yes, you can walk there in the morning in ten minutes. yes, it is convenient that you can snowboard half a day, come back to nap, and then head out for a few more runs in the afternoon. your money funds their continued strength of location. the front desk staff is very helpful with providing weather updates, and suggesting how to prep your car for the next morning. they do plow the roads in the morning if it snows a lot, so i think they learned from the previous reviewers. they were also good about letting us know to park 8 ft away from the building, in case snow drops down overnight. remember to put chains on the night before, esp if it's going to snow overnight. not really the greatest with names over the phone. i've gotten "joe" instead of "gerald" before, but "jogerald tam" is a stretch. as such, i never got my email confirmation. they charge an extra $11 for a third person in a double room. not exorbitant, but, just so you know. continental breakfast is limited to crappy coffee, cereal, bananas and apples, muffins, and costco mini-bagels. from the other reviews, i'm gathering that i should be glad to have anything at all. we brought our own ramen. next time i'm bringing my own hot water heater, and my own frozen burritos. there was this sweaty funk in the room when we first walked in. i thought it was us, then i noticed we were all still wearing our gear. no, it's the room itself. there were doritos from the previous occupant hiding under the table. water pressure in the sink is stronger than the showerhead. the sink had a drip-bucket under it. not sure how often they launder the top-layer sheets. but, the rooms are fairly spacious, and stayed warm, which is probably the most important of the basic requirements. there were LOTS of kids running around at night. at 1 am. no one stops them. it's not the hotel's problem, but it's irritating. tv didn't have A/V ports for those prescient enough to bring their own dvd player. not everyone cares about this, but if you're snowed-in with only ramen and granola bars for dinner, you'd like more than basic cable to entertain yourself with. you can't foresee every eventuality, i guess. truly on par with motel 8. however, nothing really beats their location. so i'm adding an extra star. read more

So first I will start with the positives: i) The staff is friendly and we were able to check in without delay. ii) Making a reservation over the phone was very easy (possibly because others know about the negatives I am about to list). iii) Heater/thermostat in the room works very well. iv) Came with a fridge and a microwave. v) Very cheap at $130/night over New Years. and then the negatives: i) Cleanliness of the room (lack thereof). We moved one of the beds closer to the wall so that our kids wouldn't roll out of the bed. We found what appeared to be ancient fruit loops and dried fruit (I hope). We also felt crumbs (maybe) on the carpet everywhere while walking around in our socks (too afraid to go barefoot). My wife found hair in the tub (wasn't ours, we didn't use it). There was dust, hair and a bit of dirt in the drawers so we kept our clothes on top of the airmoire and shelf and desk instead. ii) Broken sink stopper which is a problem if you want to avoid losing contact lenses, etc. iii) Continental breakfast is really not healthy. White bread bagels and fruit loops (ah, the fruit loop connection!) iv) Room 103 (our room) is right next to the lobby and you get woken up ~5 or 6 am with staff opening and slamming doors in prep of the continental breakfast. v) the whole building shakes when people walk. I don't know if this thing is on stiltsorsome other structure but when my 45 pound son ran across the room, it felt like a small earthquake going through the building. vi) the place just has this feeling of funk, like an old garage or some other neglected place. It just doesn't have a clean and cozy feel. So if I was back in college and saving every dime, yeah, this place might cut it. But if you want basic comforts and cleanliness, I'd suggest trying someplace a bit nicer. read more

The only reason this place gets 1 star is because it's close to the slopes. The front desk staff are friendly, but the hours of operation are the worst I've ever seen. I should of gotten a hint when I first called to make a reservation. I called numerous times over several days and no one answers the phone. I had to leave TWO messages for a call back until someone finally replied. Apparently there is someone only there from 4pm to 5pm for checkin... Any other time they make "special " arrangements... Luckily I didn't miss that one hour window... So, during check in I requested a crib for my toddler...they stated they don't have cribs. Ok, how about a rollaway bed? Um... Nope... Are you kidding me? So we then went to the room... And that's where the gross factor begins. The room is super outdated. I'm talking your great grandparents outdated. The walls haven't seen a paint brush since the place was probably built. There were cracks, stains, scuffs, marks... You name it on the walls. The carpet also was pretty nasty. Felt like I was on the game show, " Name that Stain"... The bathroom was also filthy. The grout around the tub was lets just say NOT its originally intended white color. The stopper in the sink was broken. The faucet was wobbly. The shower head was the perfect height... Um... For my wife who is 5'1" ....!!!!!!! The microwave was busted, there gummie Bears included free of charge though... You just had peel them off the chair and under parts of the furniture. There were actual mold spores on the bathroom ceiling... A bunch of them. It was like a little mold party and I was the guest of honor. The dresser had two missing drawers!!! Why?! Let's see, what else? Oh... The curtains were too short..!!! Did I mention we were on the first floor and facing the parking lot? Um... Hello World, these are my boxers... Enjoy the show... My first and LAST time I ever stay here. I wouldn't even stay here if it was free. Do not stay here, even if it's closed to the ski resort, as staying at this "motel" is a very unpleasant experience for us and almost ruined our ski trip. There's nothing surrounding this area besides the resort, so you have to drive to downtown Truckee anyway to have any decent dinner. In other words, this is a place you book if all you care about is having a roof over your head for a night or two without breaking the bank. We (2 adults/2 kids 6 and 4) stayed here just after that huge snow storm from 12/22 thru 12/25. The roads were easy to access up to the hotel. The room was so much more than I expected after reading the reviews here. New carpets in the room, nice hotelish decor, refrigerator and microwave. A very clean room, freshly made up with new towels every day (and when we needed extra). The staff were all younger people, but so very professional and willing to help us with everything we needed. They serve bagels w/cream cheese, cereals/milk/, mini muffins, coffee, juice, tea and cocoa. Perfect breakfast to carb up for a day of skiing and snow playing. Worst place to stay at. Not worth your money. This place is a piece of crap. Rooms are nasty. Foul smell. As soon as you enter the lobby door. And the worst is the room we checked in - smelled like spoiled garbage. Not safe for kids. Bad customer service. Supposed to be non smoking. But we saw the guy cleaning the room - smoking in the room. WTH! Trust me, we went with our 2 kids, we left with asthma coz of the foul smell. Definitely will never come back. For $175 a night, this place isn't worth it. The lighting in our room was so dim. We got a room on the 3rd floor....no elevator! Why'd we pack so much?? You do get a mini-fridge and a microwave in your room. Bring your own breakfast! Otherwise, you can use their toaster. They do have orange and cranberry juice. The only plus is its proximity to Boreal, which is a 5 minute walk. I'd rather stay in Reno and drive here. read more

A generator for power outages.....pahshaw....we don't need no stinking generator. Even thought everything, including the heat, runs on good ole' PG&E no generator. 4 Santa Cruz locals without their coffee in the am...not a good day for us campers; which is what it felt like with the lack of heat, no hot water and no hot coffee. The "recently renovated" room did have new mattresses and no evidence of bed bugs, but that is where the positives end. Shoddy work and a rotted out sink drain do not speak renovation to this traveler. "you must have your vehicle moved out by 10am for the plow to come through"....but we only have limited # of shovels...that one is on me, should have brought my own. This place was not what I expected for $174.00 per night mid week. I would not stay here again, no matter how close it is to the ski resort. P.S. previous reviews on the "breakfast" could not be confirmed due to the lack of power (i.e. no hot chocolate or coffee), but the have added raisin bran to the menu! If i could give half a star i would. First of all stopped by two weeks prior to ask if they allowed pets.i was assured they did and that i could leave my 17lb dog crated in the room while i hit the slopes. When i checked in was told that we were the people that we were the only guests there. As we were loading up to hit the slopes i was told that my dog could not stay crated in the room because he mite make noise. When i said he also had a bark coller on they would not budge. We would have only been able to get back $20 of our $140 fee for our second night so we kept the dog in the car the three hours while we snowboarded. We went there (with 2 kids), because it was recommended by soda springs. Sure it's not the best hotel in the world but it's good enough given the price and the location. There were a few minor problems with the room (some light bulbs not working, some left over clothes under the beds, not enough hangers, ...) but the staff was quite accomodating in fixing them. The breakfast is better than the average motel breakfast: they have oat meal, all sort of cereals for kids, fruits, bread and bagels, etc. Overall I will definitely go back to this hotel next time I'm going to Boreal or Soda Springs read more

Had a great experience on this trip. Came here with my husband and two friends for $15 college students skiing trip at the resort. Had a fun skiing day and around 6:30pm headed to the inn. We missed check in, but they called and left a message on how to get in. Arrived and the workers were still there, got our key and headed in. We ordered a supreme room, it was clean and cozy. I could just write that this place is a dump, and leave it at that. However, that is too simplistic. It is a dump, of course, but it's much worse than that. The rooms are filthy. In our room, the refrigerator, heating fan, toilet, toilet tissue holder and window shades were all broken and or damaged. Wi-Fi has not worked in the hotel or on the resort for three months. The staff is surly and have no interest in working with guests. The reservation system was messed up and charged me one extra night. The two complementary ski passes did not scan correctly at the ski resort and we had to buy them on my own. And one more important thing: the Hotel houses a large number of ski resort staff, who seem to maintain a side business by ripping off guests. If you somehow decide to stay here do not leave anything in your car. The staff also seems to smoke marijuana all throughout the day and night. read more

This is a great Motel. Its simple, close to skiing, and priced okay. The rooms have a fridge and a microwave, (bring your own munchies). The breakfast in the AM is fine, cereal, fruit, muffins, coffee, ect!! its not the ritz but for the price I wouldn't expect any more, or any less. The rooms are large, and I have never had a dirty room here. there is a TV but bring your own DVD player if you can't live a day or two with it. (Try a book). The staff is always nice and helpful. I have stayed her over a dozen times over the last 10 years and will continue to do so at least once every ski season. Where else can you ski all day till 9pm for less then 50 bucks and get a room for just over 100. Love it!! read more

I stayed at Boreal Inn last year in February and had a great time. This place truly needs some updates but basicly you are next to the slopes so if you are going there for snowboarding it's great. If you like some additional ammenities then that is not place for you to stay. Staff is realy helpfull and frendly. Most of the time they have international students working there and at the ski resort so it is fun to get to know people all over the world. Breakfast is decent and the price for the room next to the resort is great. Check other places and see what do they charge. I am hoping to go there this seson again with my family. Just remeber that all rooms there are non-smoking which is great and they are preaty strickt about those things ($100.00 Fee). This place is terrible. Just walking in, the woman at the front desk gave me an earful because I apparently walked in through the back door when I'm supposed to walk through the front door....very odd, I know. Then on top of the place being in disarray (not to mention filthy) this "woman" at the front desk was a complete B**** with a capital B. Pros: 1. We selected this resort because it is close to Soda Springs Planet Kids and they recommended it. 2. There is a very basic continental breakfast. Although basic it did get us through the first couple hours of the morning. I wish there was some protein offered. 3. The front office staff were very friendly. 4. Parking was free and close. 5. Bathroom appeared clean. Cons: 1. We selected the Superior/upgraded room and thank God we did! Even with the upgrade the room was dingy and suspect. For example, as soon as we walked in my oldest daughter said, "What's this?!" It was a dirty washcloth that was just under the bed. So that pretty much set the tone for the comfort level in the cleanliness of the room. 2. The curtains were 1/2 assembled. My husband had to rehang them. And even still I'm certain that anyone looking from the outside in would be able to see the person lying in bed...creepy. 3. While they upgraded the bathroom counter they certainly did not take the time to upgrade the moldy and mildew smelling carpet. We were on socks only status. 4. After the washcloth incident from above we did not have confidence in the cleanliness of the duvet. Particularly after noticing a spot on it and not being sure if it was just an old stain or an unwashed duvet. Thus, we just took those off of the bed. 5. Noise level-- it sounded like a large group was having a card party in the hallway for half the night. 6. We had to watch the television on blast status because they had not programmed the remote to change the volume. Finally we discovered we could adjust the volume on a hidden button on the TV monitor. 7. Internet was down. All in all we had fun on our trip, but we would stay somewhere else next time. read more

Gross!!! A huge dissapointment! Would not recommend or ever go back! We paid extra for the "superior room", I think my friends standard room was better even with the cobwebs! Our room wasn't clean; sticky jelly smear & dried banana on the bedside table between the beds, crusted over ketchup & who knows what else on the comforter of one of the beds, what looked like a blood smear on the edge of one of the walls going into the bathroom, a huge booger stuck to the bathroom wall above the toilet, the shower wasn't clean, very dim lighting, & disappointing continental breakfast!!! We asked for another room but they told us they were completely booked, even though my friend had cancelled one of her rooms at check in. Terrible!!! One star for the location and one for the fact that it was sanitary, but I'm being generous. We are not looking for anything fancy, but were disappointed in the value and the service. You'd probably get a better night's sleep with a blanket on the floor - the mattresses are terrible. The employees are beyond rude - one lady YELLED at my kids for talking in the hallway. She said they were only allowed to whisper. This was at 5:00 pm, by the way, not the middle of the night. We were charged extra since we have 3 children (they have a 4 person/room max) -- That was fine, but when I asked for the extra bed, they said that would be an additional $20 on top of the extra person fee!! Ridiculous! Continental breakfast consisted of some stale rolls and a basket of shrivelled fruit. The place feels like a run down motel 6 but the price is totally not worth it. read more

I know that the Boreal Inn is doing much better. The New Manager is changing a lot of things to make it a better stay. The breakfast now includes more than just muffins and mini bagels. There is an assortment of breads, white, wheat, raison bread, full size bagels an assortment of mini muffins, Cereals, Yogurt, Gogurt, hard boiled egg's, Fresh brewed Coffee, Juices, hot Chocolate, Fruits and much more. If there is any problems, just go to the front desk, they do their best to fix just about anything. read more

We stayed here with our 2 small children. Our first room was standard because the upgrade was sold out. The furniture is old, but it was clean and didn't smell as bad as the other experiences on here. It had a working microwave and fridge and was perfect for our family. The second night we were able to upgrade and the room was a lot nicer and the bed was very comfortable. I think for the price you can't beat it. Everyone was very friendly and the breakfast was perfect for the kids. I would absolutely go back. read more

April 11, 2011, my 17 year old snowboarder and i, a snow skier, took advantage of the stay and ride free program. Close to home and we enjoy the simple mountain. We stayed in the superior room. We searched and searched but couldn't find the "superior". We were on the first floor, in the first room by the front desk, room 104. I wear earplugs to bed out of habit. Even with earplugs, i could not stop the noise of kids running, jumping yelling upstairs. WHY WOULD YOU PUT KIDS UPSTAIRS? the walls are so paper thin, I could hear other conversations, the water dripping in our shower from a leak in the ceiling corner, and every step taken by others. The room did have comfortable beds but if it's a noisy surrounding, dirty, moldy smelling, then it really doesn't matter. Hopefully Boreal Inn can take the money from the rooms and upgrade! Upgrade and charge a little more to stay at the new and improved Boreal Inn. If you can do that, then do not charge $139.00 to stay in a cardboard box. read more
