This Shell is located right on the North Carolina-South Carolina border, on the NC side. It's just…read moreoff I-95 south exit 1B (in NC) and I-95 north exit 1 (in SC). It's situated on US 301-501. There's not much in the immediate area except for a Waffle House, an abandoned gas station across the street, and a couple motels. It's kind of desolate and not the nicest. A structure next to the Food Mart appears to be some sort of gaming establishment. Not gonna lie, I really had to use the bathroom and that's why we stopped here. Otherwise, I would've gone to a bigger gas station and convenience store (e.g., QuikTrip, Love's, Pilot) or a state welcome center or rest area. FYI, there are both NC and SC welcome centers nearby along I-95. The cashier greeted me when I entered the store. The men's room toilet was clean. This is one of those smaller, older convenience stores with only one restroom each for men and women. The men's room was well-worn, especially the door. The gas station has six pumps for unleaded fuel and two for diesel. When I tried to check in here on Yelp, I noticed there wasn't a listing, so I created this one. The "Border Texaco" listing at the same address is curious because Google Street View shows this has been a Shell as early as January 2008. *shrug* https://www.yelp.com/biz/border-texaco-rowland

Minute Stop - Fried chicken real deal southern style... real good

Minute Stop

Hey, am I really giving four stars for gas station fried chicken??? Yep!!! We were traveling on the…read moreI-95 corridor and stopped for a night at a hotel. While we were there, the clerk referred us to a local pizza place for dinner and then told us about a "secret" chicken shop a few miles away... Minute Stop. She told us that it was completely addictive and once you eat it you will never want any other chicken. She may have been right. If you take the exit for the garish South of the Border attraction, head five minutes in the opposite direction and look for a gas station with tons of cars... that will be Minute Stop! You may have to wait a few minutes for a place to park or you can park on the side street. Walking in it looks like a typical gas station convenience store except it has a handful of booths and a long line for the chicken. Don't be afraid of the wait time because they move really fast! I ordered a four piece box with cole slaw and taters and it was $7.49 which was a deal! It was indeed one of the best pieces of fried chicken I have ever eaten. Perfectly golden and crispy, well seasoned (a bit on the salty side but not too much), and juicy. They cook so much chicken that it keeps coming out hot and fresh. For the sides, I got excited reading another review that said they have mac and cheese but they don't. Their cole slaw was good. The only reason I am not giving them five stars is because the taters were not crispy and not well seasoned. I was totally able to overlook this given the quality of the chicken! I also had a piece of coconut cream pie which was good too! If you ever happen to be cruising across the North and South Carolina border on 95, be sure to take this five minute detour for chicken. Even if you get it to go, it was amazing cold too!

This is the best fried chicken I have ever had. Low gas prices, and clean restrooms! Great place to…read morestop if you're on the way to the beach to take a load off.

We made it to Buc-ees!!!!! Our first time here! I made a stop at Buc-ee's with my 8-year-old…read moregrandson and 2 baby Granddaughters, and let me tell you--it turned into a whole adventure! It wasn't long enough of a visit since the girls and their mom stayed in the car! GRRR.. From a grandma's perspective, the first thing I noticed was how clean and well-kept everything was. The restrooms? Absolutely spotless--honestly better than some hotels I've stayed in. There were green and red lights on the outside of each stall to let you know which stalls were available and which were occupied. The lines moved very quickly. That alone makes it worth the stop when you're traveling with kids. Now, for my grandson, this place was like walking into a wonderland. His eyes lit up the second we walked in. Between the rows of snacks, the huge drink stations, and all the fun Buc-ee's merchandise, he didn't know where to look first. He was especially fascinated with the Toy section there were so many to chose from. It was a Saturday so this place was very busy. I heard Al Roker from the Today show praise the brisket sandwiches. I also wanted one but the wait was too long. We ended up grabbing some treats--beaver nuggets (of course!), 3 slushies, beef jerkey, candy bars, chocolate covered pretzels, and a couple of souvenirs magnets, t-shirts, Buc-ees water bottle and a Buc-ees tumbler he insisted we "had to have." I appreciated that there were plenty of options, whether you want something indulgent or a quick, decent meal on the go. What really stood out to me was how easy everything felt, even with a little curious little boy in tow. Plenty of space, clear layout, and friendly staff who didn't seem bothered by all of the people shopping. All in all, Buc-ee's in Florence isn't just a gas stop--it's the ultimate shopping experience. You must go atleast once in your lifetime! If you're traveling with grandkids, plan a little extra time. Trust me, they won't want to rush through it--and honestly, neither will you. 5/5 Ambience 5/5 Service / Employee engagement 5/5 The variety of merchandise 5/5 The food Choices 5/5 Parking 5/5 prices I highly recommend!

Their restroom are very clean and stalls are private, they have hundreds and hundreds of snacks to choose from, the best brisket sandwiches, a bacon, fudge, and sausage bar, dozens of slushie flavors, and more. They even have a clothes and home decor section! Buc-ee's truly has it all. They have gas, diesel, and ethanol-free gas available. RVs are permitted, but tractor trailers are not. If you don't stop in and check it out, you are missing out!!

That said, the biggest issue here is the restroom situation--and it's not a small one. The men's room has only two commode stalls and no urinals. When one of those stalls is out of order, like it was today, things back up fast. You're left standing in line wondering why a basic setup wasn't thought through better. It's the kind of thing that could've been solved years ago with a little foresight. I can't speak firsthand on the women's restroom, but given the condition and setup on the men's side, it doesn't inspire much confidence. There's also a $3 minimum for card purchases, which feels a bit outdated these days. Most places have moved past that, so it stands out--and not in a good way. To top it off, the front counter staff hasn't exactly been warm or welcoming during our visits. Nothing terrible, just not the kind of service that makes you want to come back. Bottom line: It's a decent stop if you're desperate or already running on fumes, but if you've got the option, you're better off planning ahead--fuel up or take a restroom break somewhere else.
