Recommended to us by our hotel. Excellent service and very reasonable prices. The staff member who…read morehelped me was willing to go out of his way to humor us on our quest to find cellar doors selling wine to the public in Germany. Not easy FYI. We walked away with a few Rieslings and Gerwitztramuners and were very happy.

Anyway, the lady (current family owner's wife) who helped us was really great, very knowledgeable on the wines, and the wine was also nice. They had just decorated for the holiday time and had some Xmas nicknacks to purchase in addition to wine. They also have some locally made brandy in different flavors as well. Close to town and smaller, local winery worth checking out for something you can't get in US. *they actually won best German rose award earlier this year
Summer beers in Germany are typically Weizen (wheat dark or light), Pilsen, or various lagers (dark…read moreor light), but you will be hard pressed to find a hoppy IPA (Indian Pale Ale)-style beer amongst the regular draft fare. Don't get me wrong, they are also great beers, but they don't have the bitter sweet taste of a high IBU (international bitterness unit) of an IPA. While wandering through Heidelberg we discovered you can actually find bottled IPA style beers from German micro Brewers right here at Upper Glass, among a whole host of other beers. We selected two and then walked around with out bottles. Then we gave our bottles to a student to collect the refund on he recycling. It was a hot day in Heidelberg and these beers certainly went down well!

I moved from California recently, so I was so thrilled to find Anderson Valley, Anchor Steam, and Sierra Nevada on the shelves. I am a fan of Belgian beers and found a few faves (Chimay, Delirium) and also a selection of hard ciders and fruit Lambics. Prices are higher than your avg Supermarket, which is expected from the selection. The shop worker (possibly owner) left us to look around and when we had questions he was able to answer all of them. I plan to be a repeat customer! PS- since they are craft beers I assume most places wont give you your deposit back, but it looks like you can bring them back to the shop (prices on the price tickets)

The Italian selection also looked nice; the others I didn't look at so much. Note: you may have to give up on this store if your mobility is impaired as you need to go down a couple of steep steps from the street level.
