There are many wonderful old buildings and parks as well as shops and pubs within a reasonable walking distance including train and bus stops. These are extremely helpful as Manchester taxis seem to think they can charge London fares. :p I suggest if you don't have your own vehicle use the bus and for £4 ride all day on any bus to any destination. As for the inn itself, it is just a wonderful place on all accounts. The staff are polite, courteous, go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and even more amazing they always call you by your first name! The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the complimentary tea and coffee tray never runs out. The bathrooms are regularly cleaned as well and the water pressure from the showers is amazing. For an extra £5 per day you can get breakfast included and I recommend you do. Their Full Breakfast is THE way to start your day. The only downside here is that I have to leave but I will definitely be back next year!

The hospitality by Sue was 1st class, she was warm,friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was a delight with every attention to comfort and detail imaginable. The breakfast was a culinary delight and we were only sorry that we couldn't find an excuse to stay longer. We were even conveyed back to the wedding venue to collect our vehicle. For you sea lovers the seafront is a minuscule 10 minutes away and the promenade is great for a relaxing walk. For animal lovers also round the corner is country park which will have you pleasently surprised with its wide variety of wildlife. If you fancied a boat trip nearby you have the Leeds to Liverpool canal which has an array of colourful barges that run to Liverpool Docklands (day trips are available). There really is lot to do to relax around here and I haven't even mentioned the Rimrose Valley nature reserve, which is perfect for some time out and relax. Another reason for chosing this as a hospitality option is if you are in the Pool to watch some footy. Whether you're going to Anfield or Goodison park from Waterloo train station to Sandhills then you can get the Soccer bus (only runs on match days) from Sandhills to Anfield or Goodison Park. Prices are very affordable ranging from £32 for single to £60 for king size. The place is perfect for a cheap overnight stay if you aren't too fussed about luxury. Great value for money makes this a great option whether you're traveling alone or with a friend.

Pub was moderately busy with people drinking, didn't see any food. Went to the bar and was greeted with the phrase We're shut, Diggle Hotel!. I thought she was joking so I smiled at the joke, embarassed silence then when I tried to order a drink I got the same response. At this point I realised she wasn't joking. I'm 50 something, hardly a trouble maker and I've never been turfed out of a pub before! Update Just been back for another visit and it feels like a different place! Much more welcoming! Haven't tried food yet but ale was good so hopefully my star uprating will be accepted.
