Booth and Howarth is a large grocery store on Mauldeth Road, Burnage. Established in 1930, this family-run business has passed through three generations. On the outside it's not unlike other groceries but the inside is quite different. There's a small produce area selling fresh fruit and veg (I can highly recommend the satsumas), a refrigerated area with dairy products, many of which are from local suppliers and an old fashioned butcher's counter with a variety of cut meats, pies and meat products.
There's nothing pretentious about Booth and Howarth. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It sells good food at a reasonable price. Remember a time when there were no out of town supermarkets? Booth and Howarth is a nod back to this era. Perhaps that's the appeal.
It's handy for pet food, milk, bread and other store cupboard essentials. The store is open from 7 'til 9 daily, so you can pick your morning paper and grab a bottle of wine on your way home from work. read more
