The first time I set foot inside Raw, I thought it was a quiet little coffee-shop. The reason I…read moreconfused a gym for an afternoon hide-out was the man with the flyer outside who dragged me inside with the promise of a free espresso. And an espresso I got plus a grand tour of the premises. To find the gym you need to walk inside the South Richmond Street entrance, go through the room with the coffee machine until you find a door that takes you to a dark alley where you'll find another door, the one that opens the actual gym . Yeah I know, it's pretty strange. But just wait until you finally get inside! Raw is a macho place filled with macho men, stretching their sweaty bodies and flexing their muscles. I can imagine that fitness competitors have a membership here for life. Watching the heavy-built weight-lifters oozing testosterone in every corner, I couldn't help thinking about the Village People video as I felt myself shrink to the floor. For a girl, this wouldn't bee my gym of choice, at least not until I get much more fit. Maybe I should try their Boot Camp class, if the trainers are anything like those who pay for the work-out, I'll loose the Christmas kilos in no-time (I'll report back in a month, if I survive). So, if you wanna be a macho, macho man, make sure to get a membership. Hey! Hey! Hey! I

Upon first glance the weights section is admittedly intimidating, but for the most part people keep to themselves and you never have to wait for equipment or machines. Plus, it's seriously affordable. I think I paid €299 for 6 months. If you're like me and fear a serious body building setup, I'd say avoid the majority of the ground floor. Around the perimeter is like 15 cardio machines that get the job done, and they have a nice selection of kettle bells along the mirrors though. There is a studio upstairs that has a great selection of classes (though I'll admit I still haven't been to one) and there's also a spin studio if you're into that sort of thing. You're free to use either space if there's not a class on, and it's a personal fave since it has more lady-friendly barbells, mats and space to stretch. All in all, I really like Raw and would definitely recommend.

I needed space from my husband -- and from all the food -- so I paid a visit to Live & Breathe Pilates. SO glad that I did. Louise is amazing. My group Pilates class turned into 1:1 because no one else had signed up. For just about 23 EUR, I was able to do a drop-in class and it was really incredible. I learned so much about my alignment and was able to try a few new moves on the reformer that I hadn't done previously. Louise is an expert and is incredibly encouraging. I booked one more class during my holiday because I just had such a great first go. Highly recommend!

I started Pilate's to compliment my running and also to try something non impact and again something to work more in depth with my posture - I have awful posture, I am always slouching. Firstly the cost of classes here are the cheapest that I found in the city. The location is beautiful, the studio is so zenned out. The minute I step in there I just relax. Steph is a wonderful teacher, so patient, enthusiastic and highly qualified. Although don't repeat my mistake and wear a low cut top that will expose your girls to the class, I think I have scarred them for life. I just really love the concentration that goes into it as it is another great form of relaxation for me. I also love the mindfulness that I am beginning to get of my body.

Was working out minding my own business and a bodybuilder nearby decided to lower his shorts to show a particular instructor the size of his thighs, to which the instructor decides to poke fun at me and joke out loud (in the middle of a room full of people) "now you better close your eyes, don't be looking!". Cue the other people in the room (women included, who weren't advised to look away) staring at me, laughing, and me sitting there mortified as 3 muscular macho men have a laugh at the gay guy in the gyms expense. It made me so self conscious and uncomfortable being made out to be a pervert that I left the gym and haven't returned. To make matters worse this staff member has continuously dropped my appointments over the last year (despite asking me to book with him as I've an injured shoulder) and other staff members have made smart comments about me asking for his help implying I fancy him. Needless to say I'm disgusted with their lack of professionalism.

When I joined back in June I was a bit disappointed that facilities such as shower and the steam rooms were taken away. But what I was most disappointed about was that the Yearly membership option was taken away. I understand, now that there are fewer members the price must go up, but there's no need for you to take away the yearly membership, just raise the price? The benefit of a yearly membership plan is not only the potential of a discount but also the ability to make a one-off payment. This ability is a necessity for me, being a student my income is irregular, so I can not reliably depend on money being in my account the same day every month. Despite this I joined back, I tried to sign up with my credit card to avoid any missed payments, but the Ben Dunne website insists on direct debits. And surprise surprise three months later, I miss a payment while I was changing jobs, what an idiot I am for forgetting the exact day I am meant to pay you with NO REMINDERS. So what would you expect would be standard business practice by the many subscription services that plague us today in this situation? A friendly email advising you, you missed a payment but no worries here's a link to complete payment, please pay in the next 7 weeks to continue your membership? A receptionist telling you you cant come in until you complete this months payment? I think that's all fair enough. Nope, Ben Dunne will CANCEL your MEMBERSHIP with NO WARNING and expect you to join back again as a whole new member with a WHOLE NEW JOINING FEE. Oh my apologies my Lord Ben Dunne for missing my humble payment, shall I set up a separate current account that I top up yearly? Perhaps I shall tickle your taint while I suck you off? That's ridiculous and honestly shameful, it's a pandemic people are struggling and hey even if there wasn't one people are still struggling. Screw me for not having my life together on the 16th of September right? I have sent emails to the payment department asking that I can rejoin without the joining fee (may I remind you I have been a regular member for 7 years) and they have advised me that they can not do anything, and I must email info@bendunne.com. And I have sent them multiple emails as well but no reply. I am not asking the world, I am asking for the bare minimum of flexibility. In my experience, it is always easier and cheaper to get a returning customer than a new customer. Food for thought.

I chanced upon this page and just thought that I'd add a short review about Iveagh Fitness Club…read morebecause previous reviews on this thread are outdated (since Iveagh was taken over and transformed). Iveagh is a completely different place both aesthetically and in terms of service since it was taken over in about 2016 or 2017 (not sure when). I have never reviewed anything online but I feel compelled to post my first review because I think that Iveagh deserves credit for its amazing transformation and I think that it is also fair (for prospective members who might enjoy its wonderful facilities) to post something that is up to date, since the reviews on this thread are from 2015 and as far back as 2009 when it was a completely different operation. I'm going to be completely honest by divulging the fact that I have done work for Iveagh over the years since it was acquired. I produced many videos for them to promote their facilities, their classes and their personal trainers. My reason for stating this is just in case anyone thinks that this reads like a post is from a direct employee of Iveagh. It's not. Regarding previous comments, the swimming pool and Spa area (which was historically opened in 1905) was completely overhauled last year and is just beautiful. It is a protected building and whilst everything had to be kept structurally intact, it was updated so very tastefully. The facilities are top notch and the staff are amazing. I won't link to any pages, just so that this doesn't look like an advertisement. You can look them up for yourself. I just wanted to update this review thread because I felt that the reviews were unfair, only because they were outdated and don't reflect the newly updated Fitness Club and its wonderful staff.

It seems that when one is attending Crossfit, the opposite rule to Fight Club applies - you must tell everyone, all the time. So, to be honest, this put me off. I didn't want to become one of those Crossfit people always talking about Crossfit. Crossfit Crossfit Crossfit. Yet here I am now. Talking about Crossfit. So, for those who don't know, this is how it works: - You first have to sign up for six 'fundamentals' classes - these are one on one hours where you learn exactly the correct way to practice each exercise. - You then pay monthly and go along as many times as you want. I pay for the off-peak lunch time slots which are 120 per month. - Each class is split into three sections - warm up, strength, and really intense 10 minutes or so of the Workout Of The Day. This type of exercise is likely unlike anything you've done before - it's intense, very specific, and so effective for the time you put in. It's perfect for anyone to start and can work for all levels. The best thing about it in my opinion is how much it is encouraged to push yourself beyond where you think you can go. It's really quite incredible what you can do, how much you can do, when you go that little bit beyond your perceived limits. The trainers are there - who are excellent - and will encourage this, but - and this is important - safely. Technique, and correct, safe technique is king here, and rightly so. I would highly recommend anyone who's been thinking about it to give it a month, you'll not look back.
