    Da outside...

Day two of our road trip to San Diego... stop 4. On the way to St. Louis from our lunch date in Indy, Sarah and I were intrigued by the numerous billboards advertising the largest western store in Indiana... literally thousands upon thousands of booths. So we looked at each other, and well, without saying a word we knew we were pulling over to check out this mecca to the Western life. Upon pulling up to Boot City, we found not only just an imposing, large building dedicated to boots, but we also saw a diner, and an opry (the aptly nicknamed performance hall of the South... shortened of course from Opera House) too! So, Boot City is more than just boots, it's a whole lifestyle! Entering Boot City gave me chills and a rush of sweet memories as the smell of new tack, gear, boots, and other Western sundries hit me. My nose told me the boots were to the right, so to the right we headed. Down and down further we went through the rows and rows of boots looking for just the right pair. What fun! Shopping! Love it! We spent a good forty minutes looking for the perfect boot for Sarah, and this is something we take very seriously, as we've been on the hunt for Sarah's new boots since we landed in Rome last September. This is a painstaking, time consuming process. One which we will not relent from, not until she falls hopelessly in love... a love that only she will know when it happens. As my Grandmother says, "you don't fall in love every day." And so it was in Terre Haute, IN, and thus no boots were purchased. She did however find a cool shirt, on sale! So we nabbed that baby. And we were off on our way. Tip: if you're in town on Saturdays, check out the schedule at the Opry, 'cause it looked pretty cool!

I saw $600 cowboy boots here (a work of art, seriously). I put my foot in $275 cowboy boots. It's the most expensive apparel item I've ever had on my body. Most of the boots are in the $110-175 range. GREAT selection. I wish the prices were cheaper, but most of these boots are handmade in the USA and the quality is very evident. The store also sells western apparel (glittery stuff for showing horses or square dancing or (gah!) getting hitched in, work boots, cowboy hats, motorcycle apparel, some jewelry & belt buckles, moccasins, and work clothes. There's an area where they will clean and re-shape your cowboy hat. In another area, they can um...refurbish?...your boots. I fell in love with a pair of boots but sadly couldn't justify the $166 it would take to make them my own...being that I neither have a horse nor anywhere to go where the boots wouldn't be considered ironic. In the same wild-west looking strip mall there is a restaurant. We didn't eat there, but it looked pretty full. Evidently there's a Boot City Opry on Saturday nights. Again, we didn't partake, but both Boot City and its assorted hangers-on are well-promoted.

My new boots! Stingray. So happy.

My initial thoughts....what a big store full of all sorts of sporting good needs, but man my foam…read moreroller I was seeking that cost $60 was a bit of a price shocker! In addition to loads of athletic wear and clothing of good brands (but nothing really outside the box or above and beyond what I might have expected), they have a lot of merchandise in general. A big athletic shoe section, a freakishly large sandal aisle and all sorts of pool stuff to name a mere fraction of all they sell. Golf area is not extensive, but at least they have a golf section. Prices are not outlet or discounted, but they do have sale sections around the store. I liked the "Fan Store" area near the front selling IU, ISU, Colts, team ware of athletic programs in the Indiana area. So in defense of the $60 foam roller....it is kind of a fancy one with ridges and also exceptionally firm foam that I know will hold up to the test of time. It was actually the only full body one they sold, although they had lots of half size/smaller ones too for more targeted muscle rolling/stretching. So yeah, I had never heard of the Academy Sports + Outdoors brand, but I am a fan and would go back.

This was the first and very LAST time I will be shopping this company. Below is the feedback I…read moresubmitted to the company when they reached out to me for a review of my shopping experience. ## NOTE ## I have not been in this store. My entire experience was online. But after reading the reviews posted here, I can see why my experience was as poor as it was. ... The entire checkout process is riddled with shortfalls. 1) I was offered a $20 discount immediatly if I applied for, was approved for and used the assigned Academy charge card. I bit, was approved and was unable to utilize the card when I was directed back to the website because I didn't yet know the number. 2) I immediatly called and was told that there is no way for me to get the number and that it would be all right to place the order later. There would be a coupon for $20 off my next purchase inside the mailer with the physical card. I just needed to call after I placed that order and "customer service (hang on, I'm laughing hard right now) would apply the discount to my order. 3) I received the card and was surprised that it was not a $20 bonus but an offer of "up to 15% off my first order". 4)When I called to activate the card, I was drilled 4 times by the agent on the phone to take the "free for the first month" credit protection in exchange for a future discount (Academy and it's partners have not had a good track record so far). It wasn't until after the agent said he was going to put it on anyway and I threatened him to cancel the card immediatly that he stopped. IF I find it was applied, my attorney, Mike Miller of Miller, Fanucci and McGing will be reaching out to Academy and it's partners with an offer of a minimum of $100,000 settlement or the chance for a trial in Federal court. 4) The website would not accept the coupon and called "customer service (insert another belly laugh here)" and was informed that it is not procedure to do such a thing as edit an order to apply a discount. But, as a offer of good will, they would resquest someone to look at the order and make the necessary adjustment - but would not guarantee it would be done. When I told them to cancel the order, which they said could not be done, the agent agreed to apply a $20 credit. I have yet to receive a bill so we'll see what happens. I will be back to update this review if anything changes ... I think everyone I have spoken with so far is full of S#!T.
